I think this was a key match in Murray's career. The first time he really brought a bit of hysteria to the British crowd and made a big breakthrough in winning their affections. In the second half of 2008 his results improved massively and from then on I knew he could be a multi-Slam winner.
Good old times, the best I've ever seen. Great players everywhere, different styles of play and courts, entertaining matches during the whole event... Sadly in this year the tour started the slow down of the surfaces. The generation of Federer had the best next generation to come, with Nadal already Nº2 since 2005 and the likes of Berdych, Gasquet, Del Potro, Murray, Djokovic, Ancic and many more going around.
First time I had ever been to Wimbledon and watched this!! Emotional watching it again as saw myself clearly in the crowd with my late Mum. The atmosphere was just so incredible. We eventually got out about 10.30pm!
Was in attendance on centre court for this EPIC. My first and only Wimbledon, i was 13 and I had a brilliant time with my dad - we got tickets from the local club and jumped at the opportunity :)
Watching this after Andy's two epic 5 setters against Berrettini and Kokkanakis Australian Open. Caught a glimpse of a young Dan Evans in the front row at beginning of 5th set. Go Andy.
I always watching this this is the day murray so strong hes speed ano no injured and now hes legend I hope murray still the one big 4 murray, djokovic, nadal, federer
One of many Gasquet chokes at big tournaments. I think he certainly had the talent to win slams, particularly here on grass where his game was really suited.
@@Onmysheet yeah definitely Murray the better all court player but on grass they were both excellent ,gasquet 2 semi finals here lost to Federer after five set epic vs roddick had to play the next day ,and then Novak Djokovic lost to probably the 2 best players ever whatever order
I had forgotten just how great this match was Can remember being glued to the telly watching it I thought at one time that Richard would be one of Andy’s great rivals because he is very talented - as it turned out he never fulfilled his potential
I remember watching this on TV at the time and the suspense during the fifth set was killing! I still shudder to think what the reaction of the players and the crowd would have been had Murray not served the match out at 5-4 because Alan Mills would definitely have stopped play as it was so dark.
It's weird to see Gasquet's forehand as a weapon here. It's mad how a talented player like him let it become such a hindrance for the rest of his career.
gosh it is so strange to view this and hear the commentating box completely treat gasquet as though he is to be feared and revered. i mean obviously to this day he's a man with real decent talent, but when he plays in the last handful of years, there's that unsaid feeling like nothing much is expected, result-wise. just the expectation tagged onto him from this point in time truly makes me sad for him. i hope he's okay, as a person.
Well Gasquet was ranked number 8 seed (higher than Murray at the time) and reached the Wimbledon semi finals the year before this, so it wasn't that strange.
'crossroads' match which turned Murray into one of the greatest comeback players of the Open Era while Gasquet's into a vulnerable player who was able to lose big leads on a regular basis
The one I've seen first in the fourth round live although Rafa Nadal won the tournament in a epic 5 set classic Wimbledon thriller of all time Vs Roger Federer.
Yeah, a great Wimbledon. Is this still the longest match Murray played at Wimbledon? Or is it the one against Tsonga at Wimbledon 2016? I loved that match too. See a lot of people criticised Murray for anger and negativity. But when he went into his quiet shell like he did in the second set here he lost all his heart and determination. When he got angry but used it to motivate himself he always had his best results
2012 Australian open is the best tournament ever. Last years Wimbledon final was epic but the 2014 and 2015 matches had better quality. Djokovic was rubbish in last years final tennis wise
moi qui l'ai moins vu jouer à ses débuts je trouve ça incroyable la différence! il a gardé son revers incroyable mais a tellement baissé en coup droit et service
Shame that Murray whipped up the crowd to such an extent that Gasquet was booed when he returned to the court. I would have loved to see that ability rewarded with a win. I was there and the sound of the ball coming off Gasquet's racquet in the first two sets was like canon fire. He completely lost his confidence at the end of the third set.
Gasquet pouvait gagner en 3 sets très largement..mais en quart de finale contre Nadal, il n'aurait eu aucune chance, comme Murray d'ailleurs, exécuté en trois petits sets...
It took a final being played in absolute darkness for Wimbledon to finally say "Let there be light". Never mind that the match should have been suspended; it would have been VERY different in proper conditions with lights and a roof preventing all that stop-start repeated non-sense!
True. I also feel Wimbledon CC should be playing 4/5 matches in a day. Sad to realise we won't be seeing even a single match at CC this year tho :( Btw, there is a tennis WhatsApp group (ATP/WTA combined) for tennis enthusiasts.
