I think its always easy to second guess those kinds of decisions, but the reality is that if you get that chance to be your own boss you gotta take it. Im a firm believer that things happen for a reason. In the end I think Andy made the right decision for him. Yeah they could have won more championships, they could have won Daytona, but would it have changed anything? We wont ever know, but I firmly believe if you ever get that chance to be your own boss, you have to take it. Yes there is always risk its always a gamble, but it is the best feeling too. Just my two cents.

What if Petree went to join DEI, and helped build that program past 2004 🤔 I wonder if it would have saved it

I think Dale getting hurt at Talladega and RCR falling behind with multi car teams hurt Dale's championship hopes more than Andy leaving. Andy leaving didnt help, but if EARNHARDT hadnt got hurt and if RCR had more speed in the late 90s, I think Dale could have won number 8

@@iceyou6032good at cheating you mean lol. Only driver in NASCAR history that could take 2 tires and drive away from guys with 4 on a regular basis. And lets not forget their “magical last adjustments” that would make the car a half second or more faster in one pit stop haha. But, they all cheat so credit to them for doing it the best back then.

@howabouthetruth2157

I agree. Shoot, they came so close to winning another championship that final year with Petree, plus they were still winning races including that final race at Atlanta. That's a lot of productive momentum to leave behind. But no one can blame a man for achieving his dream of owning a team himself. It was still a bummer for the Childress team & the rest of us though, for sure.

Dale Sr. Buried the field at Atlanta in the Fall of 95 ..... That car from the middle off the corner was a Rocket 🚀.... Gordon ran just good enough to win the title by 34 points..... #3 team served notice that day that they would be hard to handle in 96 and were until the big Talladega crash ...... That 34 points burned like a hot poker that day and still does today .... Would've been #8....

Both races at Michigan were the ultimate downfall for the 1995 Championship run IMHO. Abysmal finishes of sub-30th in those races sunk it.

Oh, PUH-LEEASE, Junior...you know damn well if you move up to Cup in ‘22, you’ll have to TURN AWAY a number of corporate sponsorships! How could they NOT want to be a part of your fledging Cup operation, knowing how successful you’ll be long-term? You have the relationships already established, and you could easily attract the necessary funding for even a 2 car team right off the bat! With a technology partnership with either Hendrick or RCR/Ganassi/ and the Chevrolet Alliance of teams, you’d be considered a top-tier team within months! The time IS NOW! Don’t let your fans down, man...

I can't imagine what it cost to run a NASCAR team for one season,I'm just a local dirt track racer super late models,it cost me $55,000 to build a competitive car, Then I have 2 guys I pay $500 a week each, Plus $300 a week for tires another $100 for race fuel $75 a week for pit passes and hopefully I don't break anything,I bet it cost a NASCAR team$50,000 a week

Unfotunately my job doesn't allow me to listen to full podcasts but I always watch the Jr videos. What a dream it would for Jr, as his daughters have aged, to bring JRM to CUP and run a season in the #88 (since Hendrick would allow him to use the number, which is still under a lease to Hendrick). Make it happen Jr! ONE MORE season. I know about concussions and you recover over time (as I have had 5). Or bring Josh Berry to CUP, he has skills. HIs finishes show from Xfinity this year-but I want to see you. Hellman's, Filtertime, Nabisco, Budweiser, Mountain Dew-they would probably all sponsor you.
