Andy, out of all the people who loved Norm, this and Conan's podcast were clearly the 1st and 2nd best eulogies he's received so far. Very classy, keep it up.
Andy should just be a full-time co-host? He's so god damn good at keeping a flow going and having things stay focused. It's really impressive to see it outside of the context of Conan 🙏
Seeing Andy here being so great got me thinking, I would kill someone to see any sort of interaction between Conan and Tim, let alone a full OH episode
I think this is the most I've appreciated Andy, it's nice to see him not as a side guy. I'm a little too young to remember when he was on tv with his own show so it was refreshing to see him speak a little more frankly and also freely because he's great at riffing and if anything more charming when he's a little more dressed down.
The deeply closeted gay man joke was genius, not only because of the absurd logic of it but also Larry King didn't understand it was a joke and keeps thinking he's on the verge of an interview bombshell
Man, Norm’s passing stings. He was the funniest man alive, respected by the most alternative and absurd, all the way to blue collar. Hearing the man was always a respite from life, although he often commented and joked about death (I wonder why). Tim’s admiration for Norm makes me love the man even more RIP to the old chunk of coal
I appreciate the time spent to remember Norm, but the tone policing and hand-wringing over "easy target" jokes is silly, if well intentioned. Norm's gay jokes were less "haha, gay" and more about making a certain kind of heterosexual man very uncomfortable. And as much as Andy claims he doesn't care if it's directed at him so much as he was more worried about how gay family and colleagues would look at him if he laughed at their theoretical expense, I think Norm had a sixth sense and dunked on the right person. If you want to see a comedian who got it and rolled along, check out Norm and David Spade on Dennis Miller's old HBO show.
@@KaroSyrupCinema Spade portrayed the exact same thing that Andy was talking about. There's just nowhere to go with it, no way you can respond other than "nah u gay".
I just bought a refurbished Dyson from the official eBay store. My GF wanted a new hairdryer as well so we bought one of those too (they had a coupon for 20% off). They ended up sending us the vacuum cleaner and not one but TWO hairdryers! I gave one to my mum…
To be honest I think the genius of Norm is how he could be respectfully disrespectful. I think he understands darkness and nuance and I could see him being quiet and withdrawn at a funeral expecially during a service but I could also see him lovingly make people uncomfortably belly laugh at a reception. He was a deeply christian but never in a way that was ever too preachy from what I've seen his public appearences. Comedy was developed culturally to be the antithesis to tradgedy and his comedy delves a lot into morbidity, which is why we have comedy. I dont think you mean to say anything to put Norm down I just think people love him because they saw the many sides of him, like Andy even said he didn't love all or Norms bits especailly the ones that aged poorly but my impression is that Andy really did see Norm for what he was and respected him despite is sometimes shithead tendencys because they came from a place of just criticising everything always.
The only andy richter's 'gay' joke of norm's that i remember is andy richter the swedish german which was mostly funny cause it was an old timey shaggy dog story with andy thrown in for no reason. the punchline itself wasn't even the funny part of the joke, really. but maybe there were other ones i forgot or missed.
Absolutely loved the Norm exchange beginning 17:14. Also Andy’s comment on Norm’s Canadian face of ultra-politeness countered with his monster genius. Like Tim said, not a people pleaser but not hateful or a truth-teller - just an incredible comedic talent. One of the greats.
You know you can’t make enemies of people who basically think you all of you as pretty cute little monkey children with no complete awareness:p. It would be like those people who are offended by kids who yell “your a fatty” at you when they are 4 and you are over 30. :)
Ty guys. RIP Norm. He was a good Comedian, and sometimes not very nice to others. But I blame superstition for that. Peace! And, btw friends, you Can actually change core elements of your being/philosophy, especially during teenage years, lol.
