Is this an unspoken rule of poker streams that should just never happen? Andy Stacks is furious at the newcomer Eric who is gracing the popular Hustler Casino Live stream for the first time. What are your thoughts on what happens? Is Andy right or wrong?
Jonathan's new book: 100 Essential Tips To Master No-Limit Hold'em is now available! You can get it here:

Henry is introduced as a financial professional and has become a regular poker player on Hustler Casino Live. Eric was appearing for the first time on the show and had been invited by Saya Ono, little more is known about him. Andy Stacks is a well known professional poker player & GGPoker Ambassador originally from Taiwan who currently resides in Los Angeles, United States. Over the last decade, Andy Stacks has established himself as one of the most recognizable faces on live poker streams playing regularly on ‘Hustler Casino Live’ and ‘Live At The Bike’. Andy is known for his calm and quiet demeanor at the poker table and was given his nickname “Andy Stacks” from the monstrous towers of poker chips that are almost always in front of him.
Hustler Casino Live is a full-scale, high-value poker production. Close to a million dollars was spent transforming the casino’s high-limit poker room, the Crystal Room, into the set of this new state-of-the-art live poker show. Hustler Casino Live looks more like coverage of a TV broadcast sporting event and appeals to those beyond the poker community. Unscripted and unedited, they host regular poker streams such as ‘Max Pain Monday’ and ‘Thirsty Thursday’. Some of the notable poker players to appear on the show have been Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan - durrrr, Phil Hellmuth, Chris Moneymaker, Doug Polk - WCGRider, Garrett Adelstein - GMan, Tony G, and many more.
The Hustler Casino was founded by the late Larry Flynt. It has been operational since June 22, 2000. It is located in Gardena, California about 25km south of downtown Los Angeles. It has poker, table games, and slots.
This high stakes poker hand took place at the Hustler Casino Live casino in Los Angeles, California.
🃏 Preflop:
The action starts with Henry who opts to raise with K9s from the cutoff, Will defends his big blind with QJo. Eric in the straddle looks down at pocket jacks aka the Jiggities and decides to 3-bet to $6,400. Both Henry and Will decide to call as all three of them head to the flop.
🔥 Flop - Kd Kc 9c:
Henry couldn't have really asked for a better flop as he cannot believe his eyes as he flops a full house! Will, who has a gutshot, decides to check to the preflop aggressor. Eric continues to tell his story of strength with a small continuation bet of $6,000. Henry correctly identifies that this is a spot that he should slowplay and elects for a call. Will folds in the big blind.
💪 Turn - Jc:
The turn is an absolute disaster for Eric but he doesn't know it as he now hits a full house too. Eric now thinks he is laying the trap as he decides to get tricky and check. Henry quite rightly wants to keep building a pot and sends out a bet of $15,000. Eric makes an easy call. He doesn't want to scare his opponent away in case he is bluffing as he believes he has the hand locked up!
🚀 River - 2d:
The river card changes nothing in their relative hand strength. Eric decides to check again, praying that Henry fires again. His prayers are answered as Henry shoves for $48,500 into the $62,500 pot. Eric snap calls and is shown the terrible news, his full house is no good!
Jonathan Little analyzes live poker hands from TV poker shows such as Poker After Dark, Hustler Casino Live, The Lodge Poker Club & PokerGO. He also analyzes popular poker vloggers such as Rampage Poker, Brad Owen, Jaman Burton, Ashley Sleeth, Wolfgang Poker and others!
You will also find many poker hands on this channel that contain some of the biggest names in the poker world such as; Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Doug Polk, Garrett Adelstein, Tom ‘Durrrr’ Dwan, Dan ‘Jungleman’ Cates, Fedor Holz & many more!

It's within Erics rights to leave, but it's no wonder Andy gets annoyed about it. When they start 6-handed,. one player leaving is a big chunk of people on the table to start with. But if Eric was on tilt after that beat I don't blame him too much for not being able to think things through from others perspective. The main reason they don't want him to go is that they know he's tilted. If he stays, he's 100% guaranteed to give back all of the winnings. Any other posturing they have about wanting to keep the game going is simply what poker players do. Trying to separate you from your money.
@liammilne2242
@liammilne2242 4 месяца назад
I mean although that maybe true that one reason they want him to stay is because he's on tilt after such a pot and may play worse, that's clearly not the only reason for them to expect him to stay. Andy for example is a frequent player on these HCL streams and he wants these games to be high action obviously. Not only does Eric leaving take away the money Andy lost to him but it also promotes a nittier playstyle on the show and gives players the idea they can leave while up. It hurts the game as a whole and could encourage other players to play tighter when they appear on HCL games and leave while up more frequently. Not only that, but it could push away more of the action players you see on HCL and then Andy would have even less ideal players to play against. I'm not suggesting Eric is wrong for leaving, he has every right to leave and it seemed to be best for him. I'm simply saying that for the players left, this sucks and it sucks for the stream and HCL too, no doubt he never gets invited back as it's also HCL's right to do and what's best for them in the future. It's not a literal rule that he must stay and gamble all his money, but to deny that you're not somewhat obliged to play till the end of the stream on a streamed invite only cash game seems wrong to me. There maybe cases where it's more reasonable to leave, but can't say that leaving while you're still up a substantial amount is one of them.

He can leave, but it's bad for the game, and he can't be upset when they don't invite him back. I've never played those stakes, but a related situation occurs in any card room when the high game gets short-handed and is in danger of breaking. In that case, it's courteous for a player, though ready to leave, to play on for a while hoping new players arrive so his exit won't break the game. IMO, such courtesies are more a responsibility of regular players than casual ones.

If not for the stream, I don't think there's any non-justification for the guy leaving -- whether he's in the money or just won a massive bet or anything. Of course, everyone else wants to keep him there -- they want an opportunity to take the money that's in his hands. The only rub is the stream -- but that's on the stream organizers to not include some kind of contract term. If the stream organizers didn't set that expectation up, that's their problem. I completely understand the argument of wanting him to stay and it being a bad look leaving. That said, as both a player and a viewer, I’d much rather someone leave and them get someone to take their seat, than them just folding the rest of the game/stream (aka what Airball has done before). But if they didn’t have someone to fill in AND the player leaving is tied to other players at the table, meaning they might leave if that player leaves, that’s different. Still a bad look regardless and would be very surprised if he was ever invited back.

Just a question of etiquette. Andy said it best; there are a lot of people in the LA area that would love to play at this game but he managed to get invited and in fact, wasn't even directly invited but rather was a guest of the invited party. So yeah, it makes her look back for essentially vouching for him as a good addition to the stream and makes him look like he's just a guy taking a shot and didn't really belong at these stakes in the first place. I wouldn't expect to see either of them welcome back any time soon.

Reminds me of Phil H losing that pot to Eric Hicks (I think?) at the Bike, and immediately leaves. You're obviously free to stand up from a cash game at any point, and they are obviously free to be frustrated with some guy playing with scared money who leaves during the middle of a live stream. If you're tilted in a cash game, the best thing to do for yourself is to leave. I just also agree with Andy that it's trash to leave a streamed game while up a significant amount. I think Andy is particularly frustrated, because he plays through losing multiple buy ins. You just can't expect that level of professionalism from every player. @liammilne2242
@liammilne2242 4 месяца назад
I mean there is a difference between leaving when you're up and leaving when you're down. I'm not saying it's not a double standard to an extent since it is, but leaving when you're down does imply you've bought in a few times and have been giving quite a bit of action or lost to several bad beats. You'd be more inclined to let someone like this leave because their mental must be all over the shop and be pretty tilted, in addition, they've all been there and can empathise with them. On the other side, leaving when you're up especially with 2hrs+ on the stream to go which by playing at the table suggests you're playing the length of the stream is promoting nitty play. I didn't watch this entire stream so I can't judge how much action Eric was actually giving, but he lost this big pot which sucks for him but he was still up and it was from a bad beat on Andy too, suggesting he can take the winnings from a bad beat but when he's on the other end of it he'll leave. It's his prerogative to leave when he wants, but to deny that it's disrespectful to those at the table and the stream is lying and he should understand he will likely never get an invite back. The big difference at least to me with leaving when up vs down on a streamed game like this is the context. These streamed games are meant to be entertaining and be high action, if you allow people to frequently leave when up it would encourage nitty play that denies action, which limits entertainment, the entire purpose of the stream. Leaving when down is a different story as it implies you've given reasonable action or even the most action and have had a bad run, which is good for the stream and doesn't promote this negative playstyle. So as I said, I think Eric has every right to leave as it's his money and he may feel like it's best for him to do so, but that doesn't mean he's hurting the game and stream he was partaking in and that HCL have every right to not invite him back in the future if he chooses to behave this way.

People have to realize stream games have some different, unwritten, rules. Things like don't hit and run, don't be a complete nit, and you're expected to play for the majority of the stream, if not the entire stream, unless you're getting absolutely crushed. If you play in the game and chose not to follow these guidelines, those who run the game won't invite you back. Eric has every right to leave, Andy has every right to be upset about it, and HCL has every right to not invite Eric back again.

I understand the players anger, but he was probably feeling the classic winners tilt, and he probably felt the feeling that if he kept playing he would have lost not only the profit but also start lossing big. So if he wasnt planning on being a regular on the game i dont blame him to be honest, cause as a professional poker player even tho i feel like i have my mindset undercontrol the winners tilt i once in a while feel is one of the worst there is, and can turn a good session into a nigthmare, so i try to stop playing too when i feel it.

I doubt it's possible but it'd be kinda cool if the casino was able to select a "loose cannon" player off the other tables and buy them into the stream game for a small stack. Even if they didn't last too long it's a proven concept that the chat will root hard for the cannons, and it fills a seat to shut Andy up. Sometimes players prove themselves to be non invite worthy, leave it at that and move on.

For this game - no. Leaving is bad form. He was still up, so has other peeps money and should let them try and get it back, he committed himself to play for the duration, and he left after the other players expressed disapproval, thus hurting his chances of getting invited back. In a normal cash game this would be OK. Shortstack Nits do it all the time (double or triple up then take off)

Maybe he was taking a shot got at a big game. Maybe he has a small bankroll who knows. There is no rule to play for winner take all if your up in a casino you don’t owe it to them to let them win there money back. If they told him before hand listen were streaming for x amount of hours we need people to play till the end sure he is wrong. But things happen Andy just on tilt.

Think it depends. Did Eric say beforehand he only had so long he could stay? Then it’s completely acceptable. If you get coolered like that, nothing wrong with taking a break for a few minutes to reset your head. That’s completely acceptable in any regard. I’m not a fan of taking a break after you win a massive pot. Of course there are exceptions. But most card rooms have gotten way more loose with phone rules and what not so you can take a quick call or send a text and still be involved in the next hand. Sure, if you’ve really gotta use the restroom, that’s also understandable. But just for a break after winning a big pot; I’m not a fan.

I don’t understand people that get angry when someone leaves a cash game with money. Isn’t that the goal?! I always leave after doubling up my buy-in - regardless of the situation - and people always get butthurt about it. Don’t they realize that I could just keep taking their money? That’s a real possibility - especially if I’m already up. Anyway, I get the whole thing about it being a stream. In that situation, you should probably stick around. Bad form.

You can leave when you want but if you are winning and leave after getting up or take chips off the table that is a bad look and just wrong to me. I took a new guy to play a live game. He had only played online up until this point. He won a big pot and tried to take out his original buy-in and I had to tell him that he could not do that. There were a few guys that were about to lose their minds but I corrected him and had to explain to the other guys that he was new to poker and had never played a live game before. They understood and let it go. Luckily for him he did leave all his chips on the table because about 5-6 hands later he was all in with 2 callers and tripled up. He ended the night with around $2000 on a $200 buy in.
