My goodness, I'm so happy I found out about your channel through 3blue1brown's and I'm so happy I did. Love everything you're doing in this video. As a CS undergrad from Egypt, I'm learning a lot here.

After all that cuteness and math, no “woof” 🐶 Very educational! I liked it 🧡

It would've been smarter to leave the demon trying the random approach while you work on a better strategy; regardless of the exact odds, as long as they are above zero, you could get lucky and have him find the password at some point during the planning process. Unless it's a "one wish only, and no wishing for more wishes" kinda thing.

How do you calculate a logarithm without a computer or calculator? Or is it not something that can be calculated, you gotta do it by trial and error (or have a table previously prepared) ?

There are a few different ways that it can be done by hand, although none of them are particularly fun. One is to use a previously prepared log table, which is what most people did before calculators became common. Another is to do it by trial and error: try decimals until one of them matches what you're looking for. But this is usually very difficult and not very useful. Probably the easiest way to calculate them without a calculator or table would be to use a Taylor Series, a concept from calculus. This allows you to use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division only to get closer and closer to the correct value. Most calculators are doing this in the background when you ask them to calculate logarithms, actually, although in some cases you can use a different kind of series to calculate the value even faster than a Taylor series can.
