The first time I heard this song (and Video Killed the Radio Star), I was about to head out on a mission but decided to just roll up into an alley and listen for a while because these two songs were like nothing I'd ever heard before... then I backed out of the alley and went on a happy rampage. :)
Next time you want some eighties electro nonsense in the wee hours, head over to the 'Safety Dance' page and spend some time with The Men Without Hats.
80s were the best decade ever, far far better than now. we had no technology, had to depend on playing records, tape,s, or the radio for music, only 3 channels on the tv, but them 3 channel were mile,s better than tv today, sometimes there was 2 or 3 programs on at the same time, so we would put a blank tape in the video to tape 1 while watching the other, now there,s 100s of channels on tv, but nothing worth watching, also comedians were funny ,where you could have a good laugh, not like todays so called comedians, that are useless.
@@michaelgoulding6609 time machine at the ready, right back to the beginning of nineteen eighty, lots more fun playing board games, a more colourful time in my opinion. 👍😃👍🙏❤️🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧 Oct twenty two
Only by morons who have a problem with an interracial relationship like UKIP or Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, or the knee jerk nut jobs all of whom need to get a life and stay out of other peoples. .
@@Dermacrosis I support UKIP and Brexit.. i'm half black and gay too, and I love this song.. Funny how race is always brought up by you do-gooder virtue signallers.
Last tune playing on the coach radio when we got off at Portsmouth to board the ships to go the the Falklands war in April 82, funny how some things stick in your mind.
I was a boy, this was on the radio all day everywhere. It was pretty common to hear at the mall, or the arcades. Over 20 years later, a friend of mine was playing this cars game, with cops and guns. And this song comes out. My chest had this nostalgic feeling.
No shame for that m8. Rockstar made one hell of a game. I still have it on my phone. You can even use an xbox or Playstation controller on the mobile version.
I think that she is a successful folk singer in Scotland and is really more of a mezzo voice...I remember hearing her sing a folk song and she has a truly lovely natural instrument.
This record is truly legendary!!! This optimises the 80’s! This lady had the good grace to send me a signed Aneka publicity photo only last year (2018) at the age of 74! Thank you Mary Sanderman!
I am a (old) Japanese boy. I heard this song in my travel to Germany, at the Munich Olympic Stadium watching soccer match between 1. FC Köln and Bayern München in 1981, but never heard in Japan. Thank youfor uploading.
This song flopped in Japan, couple years later a Japanese idol covered it renamed as "Chinese Boy", and flopped again. Just a weird fact of the day I guess.
This song was in the UK charts and I used to hear it every morning on the school bus radio when I was in 1st year at high school in 1981. I really miss those days.
Before anyone gets offended by this music video, just remember that the Japanese (from Japan) are actually ok with foreigners wearing Japanese clothes.
Brilliant idea and production. Perfect combination of oriental and European style in clothing dance and singing style. So funny so dynamic makes you woonder every second if you are looking at tv show from Japan or from a disco in Great Britain. Love it after so many years. She is sweet alert delicate and original. What can I say. I can not get enough of it. The story pretends to be a sad one but the performance leaves you with a happy feeling. Strange but not unusual for that era (The artists from various bands were smiling and seem to have fun and enjoy themselves no matter what they were singing about ...unless it was hard a rock band).
I met her son Iain many years ago at a party at Edinburgh University. I remember he said he loved winding people up saying he was half Scottish / half Japanese... purely on the back of his Mum's alter ego; Aneka. He was a nice down to earth guy.
Lets face it, if he left without telling he probably does not really like you. Her Japanese boy should make it big in Japan by doing a song about the Scottish girl he abandoned.
He got his engineering degree in Glasgow and went back to Japan to marry the heir to the Toyota fortune. Why not have some Scottish nookie before he commits to billions of ¥. ........and Japanese girls do not do BJs.
He said that he loved me, never would go Oh oh, oh oh Now I find I'm sitting here on my own Oh oh, oh oh Was it something I've said or done That made him pack his bags up and run Could it be another he's found It's breaking up the happy home Mister can you tell me where my love has gone He's a Japanese boy I woke up one morning and my love was gone Oh, my Japanese boy Ooh, I miss my Japanese boy People ask about him every day Oh oh, oh oh Don't know what to tell them, what can I say Oh oh, oh oh If only he would write me or call A word of explanation, that's all It would stop me climbing the wall It's breaking up the happy home Mister can you tell me where my love has gone He's a Japanese boy I woke up one morning and my love was gone Oh, my Japanese boy Ooh, I miss my Japanese boy Was it something I've said or done That made him pack his bags up and run Could it be another he's found It's breaking up the happy home Mister can you tell me where my love has gone He's a Japanese boy I woke up one morning and my love was gone Oh, my Japanese boy Ooh, I miss my Japanese boy Mister can you tell me where my love has gone He's a Japanese boy I woke up one morning and my love was gone Oh, my Japanese boy Ooh, I miss my Japanese boy
Mary Sandeman, better known by her stage name Aneka /əˈniːkə/ (born 20 November 1947 in Edinburgh, Scotland), is a Scottish singer. In 1981 she reached number one in the UK Singles Chart with her song "Japanese Boy". She was well known for the Oriental image she adopted for the song. After her brief foray into pop, she reverted to her real name and re-established herself as an accomplished singer of Scottish traditional music. This music career having begun in Scotland as a teenager and continued up until her first hit, as Mary Sandeman. It was only at the time of the 1981 hit that she changed her name.
Playing Vice City as a kid hearing this song and almost 15 years later playing the Definitive Edition snd hearing this song again and forgetting about it for 15 years it brought me so much nostalgia and memories i started to cry ill never forget. Thank you Grand Theft Auto Vice City. One of the best games in the world!
Gran cancion de aneka ...uno de esos temas divertidos de los años 80 en los que se hacía música para disfrutar y pasarlo bien sin prejuicios ni censura ni malos rollos
Great track and a lovely lady Aneka (aka) Mary Sandeman. One hit wonder legend. Total 80s classic which would probably never be put out today, but it is what it is. I remember listening to this when I was a very young kid 😎👍
I first heard this song when I was a kid and didn't know it's name. Luckily the tune was still in my head. Today I hummed into an app called sound hound and the song came up. I was thrilled
Honestly, the fact that this hasnt been blowing up on tiktok is beyond me. If you want to start a trend on tiktok, I have no doubt this song would be a wave
yeah,true...i think people these days are so stupid they have no understanding of what racism means. It is very simple, for something to be racist one has to be saying something derogatory about the person or persons based solely on their race. This song could only be racist if she sang "he's my Japanese boy and i hate Japanese people" or something, poor example but then i didn't want to make a racist comment myself :P
hawaiidispenser Yeah, those ungrateful black people. I mean, quit whining so much about police shooting you. White people get racially discriminated against worse than that all the time in this country. I mean, white people aren't allowed to say the "n-word". Can you believe how hard it is to be us?
newwaveknight1 Sorry, can't agree with you there, pal! I was addressing people who grab victim status by taking offense over horseshit, not actual violations of civil rights.
+hawaiidispenser Come on, you don't see how hard white people have it today? Being called racists all the time? It's worse than what blacks went through during the 50's and 60's.
I think it was already destroyed. I never heard it on the radio since literally 2010. Before that I used to like this song, but then I somehow forgot it. Political correctness is destroying everything nowadays.
