Join with me as I explore the Angaston railway station located in the Barossa Valley located 78 kilometres north of Adelaide.
*****************************************************************************
Angaston railway station opened in 1911 with the opening of the Barossa railway line from Gawler. It saw regular passenger trains until 1968 but some special tours used the station until 2004. The line between Nuriootpa and Angaston was severed and converted into a biking trail. The station itself was converted into a historic railway museum in 2020.

When I worked with the ANR Works and Buildings Department, a small group of us were sent to work up the Angaston, Nuriootpa, Tanunda area doing maintenance to some of the fetlers cottages and other bits and pieces of maintenance. We lived in Employees Sleeping Vans in the Angaston yard. This was about 1979, give or take.

Great, thank you. Haven't seen it since the F went out there in 1995.

I still remember catching the train from Angaston to Adelaide with my mother in 1968, when I was 4 years old. I even remember going to the train station a few days earlier to buy the train tickets. The trains stopped running a few years after that and were replaced by not so reliable buses.

I work not far from there at Vinpac International, on the outskirts of Angaston. haven't been to the railway station for a long time, and was looking a little neglected at my last visit, especially the old turntable. it looks like they've done a lot of work getting it all looking really nice now. will have to go and check it out again sometime. great little video.
