I love the journey with this club. Yes, highs and lows. But undoubtedly an upward trajectory since Levy started. We will get there, it will be self-made, and it will be glorious! COYS!!! 🐓 ⚽️
Problem is Ali, last season with our main back 4 we still conceded set pieces. I just wish Ange would take it seriously so many points are won and lost on them.
@@AshCOYS do you seriously believe he doesn’t realise it’s a problem? The guy is extremely intelligent. I’m sure he know the problem and is working on it. Solanke is the first thing that will help with his height
@@ropekd1681 I do yea otherwise he’d hire a proper set piece coach like a normal manager. Arsenal don’t concede them and score a load from them. I wonder why.
My squad for opening day: Son - Solanke - Kulusevski Maddison - Bissouma - Bentancur Udogie - VDV - Romero - Porro Vicario Bench: Austin, Dragusin, Spence, Gray, Sarr, Bergvall, Werner, Johnson, Richarlison. I think despite Madders and Bissouma looking a bit shaky, Ange will go with the experienced guys from the start and work in the youngsters over time. Kulu has to start, even if he isn't ideal as the RW. It's the only place he can currently fit in, as I think Johnson needs to start on the bench. Long term, I see Kulusevski competing for the right sided 8 in midfield where we saw Sarr playing last season. Will be interesting to see if Richarlison is fit enough to make the bench, could we maybe see Lankshear in the squad? Exciting times ahead! Here's hoping for a top quality RW to walk into the starting 11 and some more of our surplus players moved on.
@@willstamcgee11 Bissouma/Bentancur double pivot with Maddison at the 10. Kulusevski on the right because he's too good to drop and I don't think Johnson deserves to start over anyone else I put in the starting 11. Haven't been impressed with Sarr for a while now, but he will be good coming on for either Bissouma or Bentancur once they start to get tired.
Another great video Alasdair - going to have to lie down in a darkened room after trying to follow the squad conundrums! Excited for the coming season although feel we still need to do more business this window
I would love someone anyone ask Ange in a press conference or ask him in private if there would be any chance Romero could play the six I think he has so many of the attributes that would make a monster cdm
We won the 2nd half with 1-0. But still, the way we don't mark the 2 opponents on the far post..., it's concerning. Also, Biss should know how important it is to meet Vic's central pass, that Djed misses is forgiveable since he is new and off pos (1st Bayern match), but Biss should know.
Still concerned about left back cover given could take while for Udogie to get back Head hurts, really hurts now Ali with that PhD on Premier League v UEFA regs. Going to lie down for a very long time in a darkened room 😂
Don't believe that's true. He was signed after a season started so didn't get the full amount of them required to be club trained, and doesn't count as homegrown due to being a non-EU national. I could be wrong but that's what I've seen and read
@@AlasdairGoldjournalist I will get my coat.... I'm not always a daftie that regurgitates incorrect information they hear on other RU-vid channels as gospel, severs me right- now wheres that coat...
Hi Alasdair. This is really not fine for Skippy. If he wants to leave to play football regularly and not just a few minutes a month, the club needs to show him respect and let him go ! We should not force him to stay against his will, just to respect some rules. Skippy has always been exemplary, our club must acknowledge that. About Lucas and Archie, oh yes, they'll become stars quite soon, I've no doubt about that. We can all see they play with ease even though they only are 18. We can thank our recruitment staff for that, great job ! About Solanke, I don't know, really, my opinion is : wait and see. But of course we need to support him. COYS
We cannot forget how blessed we are as Spurs fans. At this point in time we have the one and only Big Ange at the wheel, the best captain in football in Sonny, and the very best journo in the world in Mr. Alasdair Gold! There will be a time when we look back as supporters and remember these years fondly. Big up Ali! Your work is appreciated and you'll be one of those figures that mark my time as a Spurs supporter in this era.
Your having a laugh. What on earth makes you so confident in ange??? His done NOTHING. We’ve brought mediocre players that are not good enough to play the only way the man knows how. Hasn’t improved our defending of set pieces, which we can all see but he can’t and. Having no defensive coach is criminal. 61 goals we conceded last season and his done NOTHING about it tactically.
Ali, please, please can you ask Postecoglou why he’s not doing anything about defending set pieces. It’s been the same mistake at the back post for several months. If it’s blindingly obvious to non-experts like me, why won’t he and Jedinak do anything about it. It’s an easy fix that doesn’t compromise his style of play- have someone on the back post and don’t be outnumbered in your own box. If you have time I’d urge you to watch Ben from We are Tottenham TVs excellent and damning analysis- he describes the coaches as “negligent. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pam23yhB7Ns.htmlsi=M9PZdwFUAz4EnXwS

@@Kate-lk6tw Exactly. Anges whole thing is "'if were relying on set-peice goals, were not spending enough time working on actually passing-through and beating teams the beautiful way". I swear some people dont actually listen to our gaffer. If he keeps the squad progressing, playing-better and scoring from open play more, then i couldn't give two-hoots how frequently we get lucky and knock in a headed corner. Fully agree with ange. You win the league, and build dynasties, by dominating teams off the park, not by being good at corners. First things first.
@@jord.an6123said no top Manager ever…. well certainly at least they never dismissed set pieces. Btw I think most spurs fans are more concerned about defensive set pieces rather than the attacking ones lol 😂
@@shottskies Top managers got lucky, were born rich, with-the-right-last-name, or born in the right part of the world that they were given jobs'. Wold's a channgingg, y'know? IDC *what* they say, as long as ange's process still works.. Ange knows what he's doing because hes *already* done it at levels lower than anyone here would even know to care about. Now he has his chance -15-20 years later than someone who played/managed in Europe would get - But he's well and truly proved his methods long ago. Therres literally no need to worry. He's dealt with this exact criticism (and beat it) a decade ago. You just wait, man. Just go with it, you're in for a good-time. If you can score 3-7 goals from aggressive-pressure and sleek interplay, then who needs set-pieces - that's his point. It always works so idk what they want. Its funny/ were in for a ride of course. dont get me wrong haha :)
As much as I’d love to be proved wrong, I really don’t see us doing any better than last season and with all the extra games this season even that might be pushing it. No real quality in the attacking third, other than Son. Lots of ok players of similar quality. Some youngsters with great potential, who we know we will end up having to sell if they fulfil it. Then levy can arrange a friendly against their new club knowing that the sycophantic fans will turn up en masse to welcome them back, meaning more money but still no trophies.
Perhaps it's good Spurs waited a year to sign another striker. Can you imagine the pressure on someone coming in straight after Kane left? I really am excited about signing Solanke. COYS>
Happy birthday Alasdair (I beat you hands down on them unfortunately). I was in the South Stand on Saturday and could not be more proud of fellow Spurs fans for the reception we gave Harry Kane when he came on, best standing ovation I've ever seen. Whilst we had some positives in the game it is still very concerning to see the repetitive nature of goals scored against us, especially outnumbering at back post which was two of their goals. So easy to see it about to happen time and time again. Frustrating thing is it is so easy to fix.
Welcome back Ali, we do appreciate you sacrificing yourself and going away for a few days so we can get a transfer done. I am sure Mrs. G does as well. This squad numbers issue is a nightmare, you are brave to try and explain it to us, maybe Indie could've chipped in. Can't wait for the new season to start, COYS!
Madueke not club trained as he left when he was just 16. You need 3 seasons between 15 and 21. KWP would be a good fit to cover both sides. I’d personally say Spence isn’t gonna have the defensive IQ to hack it so would let him go. Replacing Spence with KWP would be a dream from the UEFA squad perspective. But convincing him would be an uphill battle I reckon.
And with the news on Biss, I hold my hand up and say I was wrong, I have defended him and pushed for him but after a loss where his group did not perform well, bad judgements, position is under threat I am losing hope for him which makes me sad😢
The Bergvall incident was really weird and was looking like it was quite serious. Glad he seemed to make a full recovery within minutes. Can't wait for the PL to start!
Q&A Hi Ali, quick one for the q&a, feel like a lot of the fans were coming into the season expecting a lot of variety regarding players in the Europa League, do you see the squad restrictions causing discontent among the squad with those that expected minutes and now wont get them? Also, do we re-submit the squad after the group stage or is the initial squad the one you commit to for the entire tournament, to maybe include some players that were initially left out? Unfortunately looks like an issue that won't be fixed for a few years to come
Quick question which may add to the Europa League squad conundrum (but hopefully not to your scrambled mind!): if I remember correctly, Spurs kept Alfie Devine in-house until he reached three years at the club so that he qualified as club trained, rather than sending him out on loan at one point. Where does Will Lankshear stand in this regard since his arrival from Sheffield Urd?
Once again I’m filled with optimism for the season ahead. Is there anything better than dreaming of a first piece of silverware since 2008? Hoping to see all our brilliant youngsters getting plenty of minutes - they should because they’ve shown up the senior players. Obviously any confidence is tinged with the knowledge that we play a very risky game. Not sure my old ticker can take it. Happy Birthday G-Man. Come on you Spurs.
I like you Ali but come on, You can't count Solankes last 72 goals because the vast majority came in the Championship. He also completely went missing last season against top six. Why can't Spurs Journos and RU-vidrs just be realistic and honest. I'll get behind Solanke, but factor in also that nearly half his goals last season were headed goals. Spurs have no one who can cross the ball. Solanke is an underwhelming signing. Just like Werner and Johnson. Ange says he wants to challenge for the league, and then signs Johnson Werner Kulu and now Solanke. Its probably a top 6 or 7 attack that's it. Eze Son Neto would have been a much more exciiting front three. This is a typical Spurs transfer window. It's not a coincidence that Spurs don't build a squad to challenge or win anything.
Feels a bit harsh to remove goals from being counted because they were in a different league. Toney's best recent season was also in the Championship but that didn't stop him being called for.
Spot on Fella. Spurs journos will never call out the club for its shortcomings so I don’t think this is the right place for looking at everything objectively. This is a space for those that want the good news and little bts bits which it’s great for. Hard to smile as a fan who is watching other clubs strengthen while we dance around taking months to sign one player. It’s gonna be a very long season we’re gonna be battling for a top 7 position at best in my opinion.
@@AlasdairGoldjournalist But Ali come on, It's time to start calling the club out for what it is. It's a Money making tool for Levy and Enic. We don't sign any top players. Every transfer window is depressing. I like Solanke and I hope he does well, but it's not harsh to not count championship goals because elite sport is all about levels. Joe Rodon is a top quality championship defender, but he can't cut it at Premier League level. Therefore, Solankes championship goals done mean anything. Also, to spend £40 million on a championship player is insane! Bellingham only cost £15 million when he left the championship for Dortmund. We could have spent 15 million more and got Neto. I'd rather 25 games per season of Neto than 40 games of Johnson. Spurs transfer window as always, has been underwhelming and depressing. #Mocked every day for being as Spurs fan. That said, Love what you do Ali. Enjoy the videos. Keep up the good work mate 👍🏽
I would expect Dom to achieve plentiful within an attacking team such as spurs. Why do fans expect an unlimited budget for 2-3 marquee players? Neto and Richie on the same team, you don’t see a problem with that?
I’m just wondering if with Bissuma the plan hasn’t changed if an offer comes in the club sell, simply because of his consistency. We have Bentencur who seems like he’s getting back to his best, we have Archie who can also play there, I just feel his passion isn’t there. Bergvall is literally a breath of fresh air, even if he nearly chocked on something haha, you can see during the game him pointing and dictating play. Dominic I’m very very excited about I think it may take a game or 2 for him to fully get the Ange way into his system but I can certainly see goals coming. On a side note I feel very sorry for Richy, his best friend (Emerson) is leaving and he’s now got competition, I just wonder if it will knock his confidence and mood again. Finally hoping for some players to be kept and 1 or 2 more signings, keep skippy, I mean he’s played right back, left back, centre back, midfield. He has done almost everything. Remember I think it was Jose said he will be a future captain and I still see his potential. Still keep Ben to be honest I want him to retire at Tottenham I think it’s just fitting, I would like a more suited back up left back but Skippy maybe can cover I mean he plays midfield and Ange likes the inverted full backs so yeah. Just a small question for you Ali if you read this comment. Do the incoming players still get the Ange call if you remember when Madders and Micky were signed Ange gave them a call before hand to ensure they were the right fit? Love the video as always Ali
When we signed Maddison one of the doubts I had imo was that he was one of those players who could be really good or not in the mood and disappear from the game. I was happily wrong when he started the season but since he has returned from injury I thought he needed time to recover game fitness but I am running out of excuses for him now and at 27 he should be at his peak now but I only feel worried that he won't get any better only more of the same followed by a slow decline. I really hope I'm wrong. Bisouma is another player similar to Maddison who made a long awaited burst of the form we bought him for also at the start of last season and also has not continued that after a self inflicted absence. All doesn't look as good in North London and I could go on but I won't depress myself anymore and as usual hope for the best. COYS
@@TerryOShea-s9d false I am afraid, he is 26, secondly he is what Spurs need, more so than any other striker we have been linked with. You can be negative or course it’s your choice, but by the reason of you are dising him, you haven’t looked at what he does or even know what Ange set up is.
Ali, even if we start slow, do you think his job is untouchable even if at Christmas we are sitting outside the Top 4? Will we see Ange given faith just like Arteta was in that horrific second season at Arsenal?
I hope he's given plenty of time. Bored of the revolving door. Mad that Ange is the first manager to complete a full season in half a decade at the club.
My only real worry is the midfield balance. Without the midfield our attacking will struggle and our defense will be exposed. Other then that I actually really enjoyed our preseason this year I will say I do appreciate that we didn’t see kane and son didn’t play against each other. I think my heart wouldn’t be able to handle it
Why do we praise players that dig their feet in to stay when clearly the club and manager want them out of the club? Richarlison has been shopped around Saudi for the entire summer and is injured yet again for the entire pre season. We should be hounding him out like we would if this was another player Ange didn’t want. The last time he had competition with a striker he was a cancer in the dressing room as well. Can see that happening again since he won’t get a game with Solanke here now
All this talk about us starting a makeshift back four is nonsense. 3 of the 4 that played are our backups. Just shows how far the drop off is when we have starting 11 players out.
I love the way Ange wants to play but surely the players and he need to show pragmatism. On occasion Vic needs to go long and avoid a press and also give their players something different to think about. We have the ability to go long too. Having a lack of a plan B glaring and crazy when City, Liverpool and others happy to go long when needed.
Archie Gray is cast iron future PL star , Bergvall looks like a young Modric , only bigger , Mikey Moore will make a big PL career starting this season .
Solanke is like a 2016 Harry Kane an actual striker who runs and has his back always to goal not a playmaker he might not be as good as Kane but with the kind of players around him he doesn’t need to be him, Werner and Richarlison fighting for a spot is definitely better than any thing we’ve seen in years if not decades
Hi Ali - we signed Will Lankshear in August 2022 I believe so 2 years at club - I’m assuming if we keep him at spurs for this season he comes club trained and would therefore stop him being loaned out this season?
Crazy to me how we are pretty cognizant of the whole squad make-up rules in place ( x-amount of home grown etc.) and Chelsea just have about 85 players it seems 😂
Big hopes for the future think solanke will be a good signing i like what we are building i just hope our fans have the patience needed for us to get to where we want to be
Hey Ali, once again a real good inside knowledge video on the comings and goings at Tottenham. I have watched the FourFourTwo videos on Solanke and Gray with what they can bring to Tottenham and I am really excited. I am hoping we get off to a strong start and see where things go. Have to keep Devine, Lankshear, Donley and Moore for cup games rather than them go out on loan. Sorry to see Scarlett go out on loan, but I suppose with Richarlison, Solanke and Lankshear then who will get game time. Good luck to Dane at Oxford in the championship. Hope he gets plenty of minutes. TTID!!! COYS!!! In Ange We Trust. One question I have got, if Reguilon leaves then who will come in at LB or LCB to cover Udogie if he gets injured?
Quick question. Similar to how Arsenal put Saliba on their squad list to make him considered a homegrown player. Could Tottenham do the same thing with Matthew Craig for their Europa league squad despite being alone at Barnsley, if they can do that, that’s another club player
Anther great video from Mr Gold. Solanke is the striker Spurs need. Richy isnt a good striker so to get one who is will make a big difference. I think Ange should look to play 2 holding midfielders. Benta with Skipp as both will defend. Yeves for me has gone off form really bad. Should be higher up or on the bench. Will be interesting to see what the team is Monday night
I've arrived to Tottenham fanbase with the arrival of Big Ange who I followed since 2012. What I've learnt is the fanbase in general is highly fractured with individuals strongly voicing thier beliefs across the board creating debate and little cohesion. You have the best stadium, best training facilities, and a top 6 club who has a manager who by nature is a winner and now evolving squad for the future. Yet, you throw your toys out because your opinions matter more than anything else. If you guys drop the superiority act and drive that energy into wholeheartedly supporting your team perhaps you may win something!
I see your point but a lot of the anger is directed at the board/owners, we have the 2nd most expensive season ticket in the league. So naturally fans want to see a better return from the team in terms of trophies under the ownership of which we have only won 1 in their 24 years. Also pre-Ange there were a lot of incredibly shocking decisions made by the ownership that we have a right to show distain at and even hold a grudge over, such as sacking our manager Jose Mourinho, a few days before a cup final, not signing a single player in 2 transfer windows, a record that no other team in the league have matched. You are probably only really aware of the Ange-era events but a lot of the anger is based on history before his arrival
I agree with your sentiment. Board decisions are based on profitability, leverage and business continuity and not on the fan base emotions. I would even go as far to say not one board member would listen to the fanbase concerns regarding Jose decision or the two transfer windows your referring to. Importantly look at the descension in the fan ranks about the Solanke deal. Ppl are slating the 21 yr old at Chelsea, the amount paid for a striker that is home grown. Simple, remove the emotions and think why the decision was made! Work ethic, collective team man, high press, can head the ball, in goal threat and will link up with the wingers and a good character by all reports that will add value to the group. You have the best reporter in the world and then you have the fan RU-vid channels who really highlight the mindset I have raised acting like thier voice box is omnipotent for the fanbase when thier views expressed are average at best!
Thank you @theconversation for a perspective in reality. Unfortunately most of the social media spurs fans think they know more than the coach or scouts, and think they have all the information. What can you say about fans that complain the board wont spend money and immediately say someone is too expensive when they pay for the player the manager wants?
Throw your toys out, LOL, spot on. 6th in the best league in the world, and they whine. But they hate that he’s Australian and that he speaks his mind. They hate being called out - for backing city against us and they really think they know more than a professional manager with a 35 year career and trophies in double digits. I came to England from Melbourne in 2001 to do graduate studies for four years. Was down in East Anglia but I found Spurs on a London trip and I had no choice, I was gone. This league is beyond everything, and many (not all) of its fans are cultured differently. They just believe they could do it better, to an absurd extent. They live in denial about how few Englishmen are out there. So much waste, because from my point of view, as a fellow graduate of Prahran High, even having to get up at 1, 2, 3 am to watch, I’m having a total blast. Blessed beyond belief.
Belated birthday greetings Alasdair and welcome back. I hope you enjoyed your break. There has been a huge clear out of squad players but not many in. It’s a small squad for a huge season.
If an U21 player is selected to play in premier league matches (but he is not part of the main 25-man squad), does that mean he is removed from the U21 squad? Or can he play for both squads during a season?
Thanks, Alasdair for the latest video. Good work with Solanke. Any chance your boss would agree to you having an “official birthday to coincide with the January transfer window (after all you are the king of football journalists)? BTW, your influence seems to extend further as while I was watching your video Spurs released the news of Mikey Moore signing his first professional contract - magic! I was at the Bayern match and Betancur looked really up for it; as did Cuti Romero also was definitely taking no prisoners, friendly or not! Very disappointed with Madison - two good moments but sadly they were the only ones, and Johnson even less. I would start Bergvall ahead of Madison at Leicester (though that would probably give the home fans a lot to crow about). There was a telling moment at the start of the second half where the people around me in the West Stand were wondering who this player was who did an amazing dribble into the Bayern penalty area and we had to consult the match programme to discover it was Werner. Sadly, this new-found brilliance was not repeated. Thanks for the detailed analysis of the issues concerning the PL and Europa League squads. I will not pretend to have understood every detail but you certainly made it clear why Spurs cannot just splash their money around on every player that the fans would like. I think Spurs may well just have to take a chance on some more of the Academy players. For the Q&A. Does the fact that Will Lankshear came on as a sub on Saturday mean that he is very likely to stay in the squad and not loaned out?
2 main problems: midfield output. Maddison, Bentancur, Sarr, Bissouma, Kulu were all poor in 2nd half of the season. Theres talent there, and some could/should be sold next summer. Defense: Davies cant cover lb or lcb. Bad fit for the system. If Levy had ambition, he would bring 2 defenders. Levy costs the CL last season with the lack of depth on defense. And yes, they also need a creative winger.
The first half showed a lack of depth at the back. A player to cover Micky and Destiny is needed. Davies is okay, but the way we play demands someone much faster.
Walker-Peter's was who i wanted originally to improve the homegrown situation but with Spence improving, I'd look at Dennis Cirkin. Get him back drom Sunderland. We need a left back, his game would suit us. Lo Celso, Royal, Reguilon and Solomon out. Eze (dream but still think its being worked on if we clear the decks), Cirkin and someone like Hermoso for the centre half competition for Micky. 3 in and 4 out.
I am curious if you know what the budget is for the remainder of the window? There seems to be conflicting reports. Some suggest without the richarlison sale we don’t have the funds to sign a top winger so it will likely be a cheap deal for a midfielder and centre back if any more deals. Others suggest we’re in the market for another marquee signing. Thoughts?
Yes Mr Gold, I was at the game yesterday with my family for the 1st time. Despite the result, the highlights were seeing the youngsters, Solanke. As well as the Kane and Dier presentation. Amazing experience. Look forward to your video. Thank you as always and happy belated birthday 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
@@JJJackson777 we still lack that final third attack because none of our fwds can dribble or take on a man confidently . We create less chances than teams that play on the counter thus rendering this system pointless at times. I like gung ho football but I expect chances to be created at least and not passing it around the opposition half.
We need plenty more in the next few days because with out VDV and Romero they cant defend...and we are awful out of posession ..very worrying !we need a top dm and l.b cover and a Eze
Goalkeeping passing out errors yet again. Need to stop doing this. Also yet again freekick marking, appalling not been adjusted which we need to quickly.
Obduracy-AP's reluctance to face up to the fact that the Spurs team is just not up to mustard when it comes to defending set pieces, we're going to have another trying season-I know it was only a friendly but I expected a much better showing at home.
It doesn't really matter how many front players we sign if we keep defending the way we are we will get slaughtered. Alasdair please please ask Ange why we keep getting out numbered at the back post not only from set pieces but in open play!! it's crazy.
Question for your Q&A: How about we bring back Noni Madueke to bring competition on right side, it will help with club trained and give us the one on one dribbled we are looking for, would he count as home grown? And I disagree: right side winger is paramount. Ange said final third is our weakest area and Solanke does not fix all of it. As much as I like Brennan and hope he comes good, it is painful to watch him with and without the ball right now. On the left we have tons, on the right we really only have Brennan.
Great to catch-up. Alasdair. I have the lyric to the song " Stomp" by the Brothers Johnson in my head now, which isn't a bad thing because its a great number! Thank you as always for the superb reportage.
The registration issue is the result of negligent squad management over the last five years. Our lack of club trained players is a problem all of our own making
I think the midfield trio for the opening game could be Bentancur, Bergvall and Kulu but Maddison could get the sympathy vote as it's his old team. I think Kulu was the most impressive of all the players in pre-season other than that the Spurs youngsters were impressive Gray will, I believe have replaced Bissouma fairly quickly and Maddison if he doesn't step up might find himself behind Bergvall in the pecking order. I think Solomon, Lo Celso and Reguillon could all go as could one of the goalies go out on loan Dane Scarlett needs a loan perhaps in Holland or Germany as that worked so well for Parrott, as for Alfie Devine that depends on whether we sign a midfielder or not. I was really glad Harry Kane got a good send off and Dier looking forward to the season starting, hope our new coaches can come up with a set piece solution. Thanks for the update, have fun and take care of yourself.
