Angel is such an incredibly versatile musician who can do all kinds of genres and make them her own. Here she dabbles with Psych Rock and creates a hypnotizing and enchanting groove that pulls you in like a lover's embrace. You know an artist is "special" when their deep cuts are just as fantastic as their better known ones. Special was recorded during the sessions for My Woman and I can only imagine how much more of a fantastic kick ass album it would have been if it had been added to it. I had the good fortune to see Angel in Seattle over Halloween weekend. She played a great set (dressed as a nun!) and to my very pleasant astonishment she played Special. Needless to say it was a fantastic show full of the better known songs and the treasured deep cuts. Angel's like fine wine, she just keeps getting better with age. I eagerly look forward to her future musical endeavors.

I think I remember listening to this song at 1306 in Miami. It was a small crowd. Charlotte Day Wilson was playing too. I honestly think everyone was there for Shut Up Kiss Me. Anyway, I saw a girl in there, so enigmatic, we met many days after, she took me to her home and showed me her leather outfits and her one eye kitten. Thank you, Angel Olsen.
