One of the Scariest and Spectacular hikes in North America. Here's a look at how Angels landing looks like with steep drop offs of 1,000 feet on both sides. Video shows me going up and down Angels Landing. It's one of the most popular hiking trails in Zion National Park, Utah. It's also listed as one of the top 10 hikes in North America.
Definitely make this one of the hikes on your bucket list.
Video recorded on April 24, 2017 using a GoPro and a FeiYu steadycam GoPro gimbal.

I did this yesterday January 10, 2021! I am 67-year-old woman Who is terrified of heights and decided I wanted to do something adventurous before I die. It was terrifying and I almost quit but I pushed on through and I am so glad I did. It was spectacular and it was sort of a metaphor for life. “Feel the fear and do it anyway“

I am so proud of you for pushing yourself both physically and mentally and not letting your fears win! We are all capable of so much more than we think we are. I am turning 55 tomorrow and my husband and I are going to Zion in 1 month and this is definitely something that I want to do. He wants no part of it, but I am going regardless, because I don't want to live the rest of my life in fear and not experiencing challenges in this life. If people are just smart and not stupid, this is a hike that is doable. Thanks for sharing your story and for inspiring me that this is one more thing I can do!!!!

Hey guys! Just saying that although this trail irl is nerve wracking, wide-angle cameras make the trail look WAY steeper/narrow then it actually is. In reality, as long as you keep your cool and don’t freak out, it’s absolutely do-able. Sometimes kids even do it.

I did Angels Landing a couple weeks ago, and agree with this. Provided that hikers stay mindful of their surroundings and where their feet are planted, the trail isn't too risky. Biggest risk IMO isn't falling off a cliff, but suffering a leg injury by stepping on the wrong spot during one of the steeper sections.

Hiked this in December, it was THE MOST crowded trail I have ever been on, there’s literally lines of people holding on to the chains going up it’s really risky especially being so close to people and making room for people going up and going down. I’d suggest going SUPERRR early to avoid the crowds

Well I can't say I went super early, but I think 1990 was early enough ; ). The road inside the park was open back then (no buses). I recall driving my motorcycle all the way to the parking area for The Narrows trailhead. There was so many cool trails and rock formations to see and the colors changed many times from pre-dawn to sunrise, morning, midday, late afternoon, dusk, sunrise, and twilight. But for me, Angel's Landing and the Narrows were my two favorites. I went back several times in the 90' and saw the rise of the crowds. Will I go for one more visit someday? idk. There's new places on my list I'd like to see first before tourist crowds degrade the natural wonder. I have some of the Pacific Crest Trails to explore still and I'd like to hike the Te Araroa in New Zealand. We'll see, but it's still about the journey, not the destination.

This hike is NOT as scary as many people make it. It DOES have several dangerous dropoffs that are fatal if you fall, but you have to actually make an effort to get close to the edge to be in any REAL danger. Stay on the MAIN path, hold onto the chains when they are present, and wear athletic/hiking footwear with good grip on them and you'll be perfectly FINE. just think of the THOUSANDS of people who hike Angel's Landing each day without incident. Pay attention, be smart and things will be ok.

@chinareds54

I remember most of the chain parts being okay but there is one part at the top past the chains where you're just scrambling up the side of the rock. Coming back down you're headed directly toward the drop and if you misstep there it feels like you can build up enough momentum to slide off the edge. When I went I wasn't prepared for hiking so I had these really cheap walking shoes and I was literally down on my butt moving an inch at a time until I got down to the ledge where the path started. That was over 10 years ago and to this day I'm amazed I made it up there and back in one piece.

I just did this hike, and i’m a little afraid of heights, and I guarantee you that you will be freaking out if you’re deathly afraid. the good news is, you can still do the hike and make it to a tall overview point before the chains which is basically just the same view but obviously less elevation. it’s beautiful and worth it. i recommend going on the hike and if you are wanting to do the chains then go and do them!! I warn you though, if you don’t go EARLY in the morning, there’s LOADS of people, making it harder to get down, and less chain space to hold onto. I’d get to the park at 6:00-6:45 and there’s parking and shuttles :)

Have good shoes with good treads. Leave the backpacks back at the start of the chains. If you have problems with heights or lack confidence in your balance - DO NOT go on this hike. There are many ways to prove your worth beyond climbing up a trail.

I am enjoying the comments about this... especially the one about missing your brother and finding him at Starbucks 😄 I did this trail with a 12 year old who had a poor sense of balance due to ear problems... THAT was nerve-wracking, but well worth it, and he thought so, too. (He has gotten over his ear and balance problems and now teaches rock climbing.) Yes, the wide angle lens DOES exaggerate the narrowness of the trail, but it IS usually narrower than 5 feet, with some sections substantially under 3 feet wide, with over 1000 feet straight down on both sides. As is hinted at by the views from the top of Angel's Landing, ALL OF ZION NATIONAL PARK should be on your bucket list... even if Angel's Landing isn't!😀 It's my favorite National Park (so far!).

I've hiked it. If it's windy, don't make the attempt. If it's wet, don't do it. Go slowly. Don't try to see how close to the edge you can get. Make sure your shoes fit well. Pay attention every second. If you heed this advice, you have a high chance of being ok.

For those claiming the trail isn’t all that bad…years ago, I was in Zion and knew nothing about this hike, just randomly started out on a path along the river for a stroll. At first it seemed normal, but then kept getting higher and the embankment turned into a cliff of switchbacks…no big deal until I noticed I was very high up a narrow path and terrifying sheer drops with no rail. I stopped sweating snd wobbly kneed at a scary corner and asked two passing hikers about the upper trail. “Oh, it gets scary higher up, cliffs on BOTH sides, and…” I went back down and later seeing these videos am so glad I left.

definitely worth the trip! Zion National Park is a national treasure. The shuttle services in the park are world class and the locals are friendly. It took me about 3.5 hours to hike all the way to the top of Angels Landing (I'm in relatively good shape), felt like Rocky once at the top. They also have The Narrows hike, which is why I'll be going back soon since the weather didn't permit. *Travel tip* Spend the least amount of money on hotels/lodges because you're more than likely to be out and about.

The first time I hiked this was in the winter and there was one place I crawled across. There was ice and I had my hands out to both sides so I could touch some rock. There are chains there now. This video starts just before what I called Separation Point. Everybody that went with me beyond that made it to the top and back down. The others turned around at that point. One evening I noticed how bright the full moon was and led a bunch of employees up. That was when I noticed that I was putting my hands and feet in the exact same places every time I went up. We were toasted at our wedding with May you hike up Angel's Landing a Thousand Times. Given T shirts to remember it. Eventually over 200 times. I carried my daughter up once. While sitting on top she looked up from her juice box and greeted three young guys who had just made it to the and were feeling pretty good about it. Hi. Smile. They were surprised to see someone so young on top, but they still enjoyed it. Sitting on top and talking to visitors about serenity, tranquility and peace of mind has always been among my best memories. I have had my 1,000 great hikes during my lifetime. These were the best.

I live "near by" and have attempted Angel's Landing a couple of times; last time was at the end of Winter maybe 8-9 years ago and gave up when the last cabled section was solid ice-and there were people scrambling up! A less intense Zion hike-and there are many-is right at the entrance, Scenic Overlook. Some nice sheer drops, but nothing like Angel.

Great video. Well done. Some commenters are saying the wide angle lens makes it look scarier than it is. I disagree. Other videos done with phones or GoPros flatten it, and make it look LESS scary than it is. I felt this one captures just how incredibly high and precarious it is. I did the hike a few weeks ago, and this video represents how it looked me. It was a fantastic experience. Worst part was passing other inexperienced hikers.
