Angela Lansbury and Carol Channing in "Tap Your Troubles Away:" A tribute to Jerry Herman. Conceived and Directed by David Galligan, Choreographed by Lee Martino, Musical Direction by Ron Abel. Videography by David Shine
@@kelsey1467 it broke my heart that all the epitaphs didn't mention her Oscar for her debut performance in Gaslight with Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer.
What absolute treasures these two remarkable women are! The world is a better place because Ms.Lansbury and Ms Channing once graced us with their presence.
I miss these Musicals... I know Broadway needs some change at times.. But for me, Broadway was a way to escape reality and real life for a short time. Thank you.
I was so lucky to see Ms. Channing in Hello Dolly and Ms. Lansbury in Sweeny Todd on Broadway, both were monumental performances that I will always treasure.
I’ll never forget her acting skills in “Gaslight” at only 18 years old. She has been so talented in everything she has done, TV, stage, silver screen: comedy, drama, singing or dancing! Thank you so much! We do appreciate & love you!💕🤗
And, of course, this is theatre history at its sweetest. These two ladies gave us theatre memories with their incredible creations of Mame and Dolly that we will never, ever forget. What a nifty, tricky arrangement and what swell comradeship.
I was lucky enough to see Lansbury in a revival of Mame on B'way in 1983. She was FANTASTIC!!! She could kick her legs up just as high as the younger cast members. I've never cared much for Channing other than her bit in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Hollywood is FULL of a lot of JERKS! The REAL TALENT in on Broadway! You can't call "Cut" in front of a LIVE audience!
A-MAH-ZING. This was a joy to behold. I hope those young dancers grasped how fortunate they were to be doing this with two LEGENDS. Ron Abel - I love you! David Galligan - thank you.
Do you know Ron Abel? I wish he would post what he has of his cabaret shows with Gotham. Legendary. Why Ron Abel is not a household name, I don’t understand.
Those were not "young" dancers, neither in this TV show njor on the Broadway stage. They were middle-aged -- but terrific -- dancers, so the leading ladies wouldn't look like Tutankarman next to them. Stars ain't stupid.
@@mzmiller52 You loved Gotham's shows, too, huh? Same. Saw them multiple times at After Dark and the Backlot in L.A. Dated John for a while. Ron Able a musical genius. Bob Esty, too.
@@kenalanfitness john? Jonathan, who left the group early on? Only saw him with them once at the bottom line. He was soon replaced by David, I think. Bill Hennessy was the genius of cabaret. Created the divine miss m, managed Gotham, Ellen Greene, Manhattan transfer. What a time in nyc. You could see a top act at the clubs almost every night.
Oh the fabulous 1960s! The zenith of musical theatre. There was more genius in the future and past, but the 60s are unrivaled for shows that never lose their charm.
My sister and I had the pleasure of seeing Ms. Channing when a touring production visited Toronto in the early 90's. The show-stopping number had the audience members on their feet for at least a good 5 minutes at the end. She looked at the rest of the cast as if to say, "What now?!" and they encouraged her to revel in the moment. She was SO happy. It was unforgettable!! ❤❤
I will never forget attending to an interview with Angela Lansbury at the New School of Social Research., in the late 60ds. During it she had a glass of white wine, at a side table and insisted that she would like to be addressed as Mrs Shaw, instead of Ms Lansbury.
I'm worshipful of both of these overwhelming legends, but I'd have told you they never appeared together. This is INCREDIBLE!! I'm blessed to have been able to call Miss Channing my friend, and I miss her terribly. BLESS YOU for posting this!!!
Chapeau to one Broadway legend assisting another Broadway legend in this iconic meeting! Dame Angela Lansbury saved the legendary Miss Channing absolutely selfless when Miss Channing was lost in the whole scenery... both are irreplacable!
what a treat. Carol was legendary for never failing to show up to perform. Her understudy had the worst job in New York. the old trooper must have fallen and broken that arm and she needs extra assistance, but nobody cares least of all the gracious Angela. They honor each other and everybody else peeks in. By the way, how many dancers ever got to say they danced both of these numbers with the orginal Mame and Dolly performing with them while the lyricist Herman, was in audience ? You are looking at total number in this clip.
Thank you for your comment! "Her understudy had the worst job in New York" made me SCREAM of laughter! I've been working with "Gypsies" for a Musical decades ago. Since then I know WHAT kind of hard work, every performer delivers every night!
Thank you for posting. I loved both of them. I missed Carol Channing when she died in 2019 and have been watching You Tube clips, documentaries & interviews of Angela Lansbury this week.
Looking at the troubles, deceivings and tortures the U.S. (and not only them) had been through, THIS is the TRUE, RIGHT and GREAT America! Two gifted legends, that gave joy, fun and real entertainment to the WORLD, honouring each other! This is craftsmanship! Showbiz, of this kind and KINGSIZE, is a true American heritage!💐💐💐❣️ Btw. I'm 100% German🧐😃😂
@@davidshine7311 😃😃 NOW, I got it! So we are on the same level, I suppose🤓! Btw. If your last name is really "SHINE", please go on shimmering some Stardust😆💐🌹💐 All the best to you!!! from a German guy in Cologne. (Yes, where that Eau is made😂🤣😂)👋👋
For all theatre-afficianados: You can't better than this. Sing along loudly, and get off you chair and dance around the room in joy with all that can bring one, if you get it a chance.
