Angela's Christmas 2 and the Patterns of Advent

Angela’s Christmas Wish (Angela's Christmas 2) on Netflix may seem like just one more animated Christmas movie, like so many being churned out by our streaming services each year. But it is so much more. Like its 2017 predecessor Angela’s Christmas, I think there is an amazing amount of depth to glean from this little film when it is viewed as a decidedly Christmas film.
I find that all of the primary patterns that guide Angela’s Christmas Wish map on perfectly to the Advent season, in which Christians across the world have participated for millennia. Its simple, beautiful narrative highlights such elements as a descent into darkness, the patience and hope required of people awaiting a "coming" in a fragmented state, the transformative power of faithful endurance, and the widespread restorative effects of a return to wholeness.
