Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Shiloh has reportedly completed the next step to drop “Pitt” from her last name. On her 18th birthday, she reportedly filed to drop her dad’s last name, going from Shiloh Jolie-Pitt to simply, Shiloh Jolie. Now, nearly two months later she has reportedly published an announcement in the Los Angeles Times to announce that she’s filed to change her name, according to People and TMZ. According to California law, before a judge can approve the name change, the petitioner must publish the forms in a newspaper for one month. Once it’s been published it will be featured in the legal notice section of the paper. Following this step, it can take a judge two to three months to make a decision, according to the California Courts website. Shiloh's lawyer, Peter Levine, issued a statement obtained by Access Hollywood clarifying that the teen "did not take out an 'ad' announcing any name change" and that reports otherwise are inaccurate. "As Shiloh’s attorney, I am required to publish a legal notice because the law in California requires that of anyone who wants to change their name. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as is required. The media should be more careful in their reporting, especially when covering a young adult who has made an independent and significant decision following painful events, and is merely following legal process," Levine said.
