I already have my doubts about the way the music industry is heading, and if this performance doesn't receive awards, and the recognition it deserves, then I will have completely lost faith in the whole system...
@devon7008 Agree completely. We have popular music with sound the same songs, and yet someone like Angelina can hardly get a leg up. If we were back in 1975, Angelina would be on every TV show, and every producer would want to work with her.
@@Pyanfar The other HUGE difference today - there is SO much music available now. Don't know if you've seen the estimate that 100,000 new songs are uploaded to Spotify EVERY DAY. And people are much less likely to buy an album and focus on a particular artist like the old days - instead, playlists of varying artists are a much more common way for young people to consume music. So - it's much harder to cut through all that noise these days. However, I'm confident the quality of Angelina's music WILL cut through eventually, it's just so much better than anything else out there.
@SteveAckerman-ly3qg Well, in 1980, I had a pretty big box of albums by very different people and also listened to the radio. While I hold Angelina in first place, I still like Led Zeppelin and host of musicians from Janis Ian and Carly Simon to Carlos Santana and Guns n' Roses. And now, thanks to Angelina, there is Amy Winehouse and Etta James et al. I believe there is much more music available now because there is more of everything available. Platforms like RU-vid, Facebook, Telegram, X, and such have democritized the ability to publicize information of any kind in ways we could only imagine in science fiction when I was younger. But there are still large companies that, via their processes of managing the data flow over the internet, have a great deal of control over what gets priority views. This is what Toby has recognized in his guerrilla campaign to promote his and Angelina's music. The shocking thing to me is that Republic does not seem to be helping Angelina navigate this process, but Toby is. Why do you think Republic executives would have told Toby that Bad Valentine was one of the best things she had recorded and then left it off of Old Enough? I had the impression that Angelina may not have had full control over that decision. The way they described what happened in LA it seemed to me that neither one of them were happy with that outcome, implying that she was not as able to influence that decision as he seemed to think when he hung up the phone on her after she told him it was not on the EP. Also, Angelina has been saying that an album and world tour was in the immediate future since Old Enough came out but it hasn't materialized, indicating the decision about putting money behind the effort was not in her control. Perhaps Republic changed their expectations after the results of Old Enough didn't meet their expectations? For long-term success, you still have to have a good product, and that is what Angelina is. If we/they could get to a point where she is as well known here as she is in Norway, she would be a huge success. What do you think she was implying in LA when she said, "It hasn't been easy"? Do you think she was talking about professionally or personally? Maybe both? I read a description of the record business as " They have to lose $1 ten times to make $11 once." Do you think Republic views Angelina as one of the $1 bets already and are cutting their losses? That is what I fear, but there is just no clear information that we fans have access to that we know is reliable information. It would be nice if we had metrics that were clear markers of progress. There are views on RU-vid and listeners on Spotify, but I don't know how to look at the trends in such information to reach a clear understanding of where she was verses where she is and what the degree of persistence is. How do you reach the conclusions you do? Has your involvement with RU-vid given you insight you didn't have before? I really want her to reach a point where she says, "And it's been great" rather than "It hasn't been easy."
Angelina was born for this ..... WOW...... A childhood in Norway drinking 100 Million year old Glacier Water has got to do something .... I'm sure of it .
I often tear up listening to her songs, but the 1st time I heard this jazzy version, I totally lost it. I haven't done that since I 1st heard her 16 yo version of My Funny Valentine. That one made me cry because it was a masterclass of vocal prowess. This version of Bad Valentine made me cry because it is an emotional masterpiece. It cuts directly to your emotional soul. Angelina is the most emotive singer I have ever heard in my 77 years! Great reaction Adriana.
I'm glad you watched this incredible performance, thank you Adriana I loved your beautiful sweet reaction. Angelina has literally shocked me, I love her voice and I'm more and more in awe of her unstoppable musical evolution, I would never have expected that at her age she had already reached such a stratospheric level of vocal perfection. This is truly a beautiful song perfectly arranged for her voices (so many!), both in the first blues version and in this later jazz version, but what she creates in this melancholic and sad version is indescribable and absolutely astonishing, also for the apparent ease with which she does it, in reality the instrumental accompaniment is little more than a simple pleasant decoration, her voice alone is enough to reproduce the emotional effect of a whole orchestra. She is a truly eclectic and extraordinary artist, I understand well why Toby is enraptured by her talent, being able to collaborate with a singer like her leaves a boundless space for musical imagination, you probably can't even imagine what vocal wonders she can create. Her creativity is simply enchanting and astonishing. 💛🧡❤
I'm hoping it is nominated for a Grammy for several reasons, best song, best new artist, best jazz song, just for starters! And, wouldn't it be something if Angelina and Toby Gad presented the song live on the Grammy's Award Show.
For me it's the best song in the year 2024. Angelina is so different and she is at a higher level than anyone else, I think. I am so happy to be a fan of her and her excellent voice. She will never stop her epic journey. She is getting better and better. Greetings from Norway.
Listening to the other versions, I felt waves of emotions. In this version those waves were replaced by a tsunami of emotions. Thank you for your honest reaction and get ready for the coming next level of Angelina.
@@flea10x6 Please no, I hope you don't mean that. Don't glorify artists as God or idols. She is the best voice in the world for me and I'm a big fan. I believe Angelina meant this when she said that she is just an ordinary child in the Final of NGT. I say this with utmost respect.
Such a change from bad girl to sad girl with the same lyrics. Amazing how both songs elicit emotions but completely different. Thank you for your thoughtful and heart felt reaction to this.
It really gets you in the FEELS doesn't it! Angelina staying true to her jazz style. Slowed down, minimal instrumentation, maximum story telling - straight from her heart to ours... You should have made sure that you had plenty of tissue to hand, she warned you right from the start...
The fleshed-out arrangement fully supports Angelina's nuanced and emotional vocal. It's my favorite version of this song and one of Angelina's new iconic performances.
We have been blessed to watch the growth of Angelina's talent and humanity over the years. I am amazed at the anguish that she has shared with us in this performance. The honesty here makes me feel that any pain that I might have felt in my own life is consoled by her sharing this; that I am not alone, that others have been down this road as well.❤

Hello Adriana. This version completely demolishes ANY lingering doubts that anyone (was there anyone??) might have had about Angelina Jordan being the greatest and most creative vocal genius, and having the most beautifully constructed voice, of our time and beyond. To take an already perfect masterpiece and actually craft it into an even more brilliant masterpiece, requires a level of mastery completely unmatched by any other artist on the planet. And to instil in it a totally different emotional impact...did I say "genius"? There has to be a stronger word somewhere...
A raw, open heartfelt reaction... YOU ROCK, Lady!! 😉👍🏻. This rendition is captivating. Each time I hear it, I'm mesmerized by how a voice, without too much more than a piano, is all needed to showcase this beautiful voice. Our Angel gives a musical trip to a place only she can create with her voice! PERFECTION!! Your face reflected just that!! Peace & Blessings Lady "A" 🤗🙏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
I have watched many reactors who are extremely familiar with Angelina listen to this and by the end of her song they all have that stunned speechless expression you did. No matter how they start out by analyzing her singing, there is a point at which they are at a loss for words.😂
you know the sustain pedal on a piano? and then there's the pedal that quenches the string to stop the note abruptly... well this it the first time that I've ever heard a singer use the abrupt pinching off of a note to affect. There's just so much detail in Angelina's technique... beyond the emotion and interpretation and all that stuff too... We have a real genius here folks.
Beautiful reaction 🙂 I knew you would like this rendition. Angelina's ability to make you feel everything she sings is just extremely remarkable, isn't it ? There is an extreme level of genius behind her choices, albeit it all sounds SO natural and easy, as if there's nothing much to it. But her performance(s) is/are jam packed with minute details, that you first only subconsciously pick up on (unless you're highly educated on vocals). And on top of that is her voice. With a tone and a frequency that reaches right into your heart and soul. Not very many artists out there has that ability, and at least not to the extent that is the case with Angelina. And then ofc you have her personality, which you come to love just as much as you get to know her better. I guess those are some of the reasons why we are fans of her after all 🙂 Have a splendid week 😊 Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
I can imagine sitting at a table in a dinner club with a friend ... subdued lighting .. good food and drink .. a small stage with Angelina crooning to us ... :)
Angelina now knows what it’s like to have a great song of yours covered by Angelina. Same lyrics, different vibe, different emotion, different song. AJ completely in her own element here as a jazz singer who somehow gives us old school vocals that are completely fresh and modern. The first version: not my fault, I told you so. This version: more nostalgic, less blame. Hey, stuff happens…
Thanks for your reaction. No need to apologize for the last video. Some other reactors also selected the recent live version. That was an awesome performance anyway. I was at that concert and it was such a great experience. Her vocal performance in this “jazzy” version is just incredible. It gives the song a real melancholy feel. Almost a different song. Toby’s piano playing is so beautiful. It’s not mentioned enough because Angelina’s vocals are so amazing I love both this version and the more upbeat pop version. It’s a great song either way. Hopefully the song gets the recognition it’s deserves by more than just the Angels.
IT'S SUNDAY ! 😁 Gotta Be ! Adriana, you said "I'm Getting Emotional Already"; that's unfortunate, as that NEVER 🙄happens to the rest of us. We feel for you😉. I have something special for you for next Sunday : WHERE DO BROKEN HEARTS GO, an 8-Camera angle edit with some of the best audio anywhere from the Glendale concert. Same feeling here, Adriana! This version is so intimate, so "regretful", maybe? Only Angelina is able to convey such strong feelings only with her way of singing 'cause we are only seeing a still pic 🥰 It only goes to show how great this song is, specially in the voice of Angelina which absolutely changes the mood from the other version; both amazing no doubt! Oh, and next time I'll lend you my tissues lol
I'm with you, this is the best version of this song. To me, it isn't only that Angelina's vocal interpretation is totally different here - it is enhanced by the fact that Toby Gad's playing adds a deeper soulful dimension, and the strings are the cherry on top. The entirety is a masterpiece, Grammy-worthy and deserves to be a huge hit - IF it actually gets played and promoted properly.
Your points are spot on with this piece. The first version was "I told you dummy", this version is more remorseful and yes it gave her the space to splash all the color she wanted and for the listener to soak up every nuance of her voice. I think she does more with one word than most do with an entire phrase. Her choices are masterful.
IMO, this is, hands down, the best version of this song. What other vocalist produces three different arrangements of a brand new song? Really. Who does that?
Peace & love Adriana! I too adore the ending. I agree that this version has a totally different feel, more heartfelt. Maybe you could say the perspective of the storyteller is a bit different. In this version, it's like they're deeply apologetic, while there's more attitude, and a "it's your own fault" kind of vibe to it in the original version. I also love that the emotional climax shifted from the beginning of the chorus, landing on "heart," to "roses are red..." and that it kind of extends all the way until the end. Storytelling wise, I also feel like it then shifts away from the hurt caused by the storyteller to be more about "the idea of me [the storyteller]." Gah, there are so many layers and perspectives! Angelina is just amazing. Oh, and Toby too, the piano accompaniment is superb! And the added touches of strings.

While the other versions are sazy and in your face, this one seems to be filled with regrets...I am sorry I did that to you...but I did tell you. Angelina seems very conflicted. Love Angelina to tell stories. ❤❤👣❤❤
Hi, please don't forget to react to Yallunder - Ndinovalo, her vocals will blow you away ❤️ there is a version with English subtitles so please react to the music video and the version with English translation so you can understand the song ❤️
This version seems to be done with a regretful emotion as to the way she treated this guy. Where the other versions are more of a sassy, intent of treating him that way.
