She blew away all the adults on NGT, this was not a "kids" competition if you watch it. Thank you for reacting to Angelina...without a doubt best vocalist artist in decades. Did like your reaction D. Her and her family would not bow down to Simon and his AGT people for a contract so she had no chance from the very beginning... the winners were predetermined from the beginning of this BS competition... as she said in the song "it doesn't really matter"....by far the most talented artist in this nonsense show....she finished like 5th...but who cares. These shows mean absolutely nothing.

You have a new subscriber, but BEWARE! This is a long comment. I hope you have the patience to read to the end. Thank you for discovering and reacting my favourite singer. Simon was correct when he said that he had never heard that version, as Angelina re-arranged it for the performance. She does this with many of her cover songs. Her fans call it "Angelina-fying" a song. The lady who first stood and clapped at the end of Angelina's performance was her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani. On her right was Angelina's mother, Sara Astar, then Juliette, her sister and then her uncle, Michael Astar who is also her Manager. Heidi Klum hit the Golden Buzzer. So Angelina went straight to the Final, where she performed Elton John's classic "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road".¡ My introduction to Angelina was on her first appearance at Norway's Got Talent, a show based on the popular "Got Talent" formula, which is open to everyone. I didn't expect much from a 7-year-old. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over or forgetting her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star". Well, it was a seven-year-old child who appeared on the stage. She was small and had wild hair and gaps in her mouth, where there once were baby teeth. My first surprise was how she confidently answered questions put to her by one of the judges. She showed no signs of nerves and when she was asked what song she was going to perform, she declared she was going to sing a song by the legendary Billie Holiday. Then she gestured off-stage for the technician to start the music and started singing. Yeah! The body of the 7-year-old child was still there, but the voice wasn't. It was that of a 40-50 year old black woman who had been singing for decades. That first moment of surprise has been experienced many times since then. I have followed her career since I saw that first video on RU-vid and in the years she has been singing publicly she has mastered many musical genres, including Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz, Pop, R&B and Soul, EDM and Rock and covered songs first performed by many famous singers, like Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Lana del Ray, Avicii, Bill Withers, Gloria Gaynor, Andy Williams, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong and many others: in total over 120 different songs and 82 different performers. She takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. She never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". She just sings the song as she feels it is meant to be sung. She has the innate ability not only to sing a song as emotionally as the song deserves, but to be able to communicate those same emotions to the listener. When you listen to her, there is the feeling that you are the object of her attention. She is singing for you alone. I have listened to every interview she has given and every documentary about her and every performance she has ever given. What I will never understand is how a very shy and humble girl in her normal life, can be transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing, once she starts to sing. Although the gift of singing and all her performances appear to be effortless, Angelina works very hard to ensure that the one she is going to record reflects what she sees as the correct way to meld both lyrics and melody. Along with "Fly Me to the Moon", it is her most viewed performance on YT . The pandemic has slowed things down for Angelina, but it has also allowed her to hone her skills at songwriting. AJ is currently signed with Republic Records. 3. AJ began singing at 18 months. Her grandmother was a jazz/blues fan and played that genre of music for AJ. She fell in love with it very early on and has even arranged most if not all that she sings from age 8. What an incredible talent. 4. Currently in 2022 she is in her mid-teenage years, stands 6 foot tall and still performs barefoot. The backstory of her encounter with the homeless girl she met while she traveled with her family through Iran at age 6 includes the weather damaged bare feet of the child she gave her own shoes to. 5. The reason she performs barefoot is to bring awareness to her public of the children worldwide who can't afford shoes of their own. She has raised millions of dollars for clothing including shoes for those unfortunate children. 💕 6. AJ sews her own clothes, (the cloth is designed by her grandmother). 7. I've seen comments that people thought she was crying when talking about this being the biggest opportunity of her life. No, the lights were hot and she was perspiring. And no, she is not nervous to sing, she is like a thoroughbred waiting in the gate, she wants to SING. She was competing with adults too. Every group goes against the others in that discipline until there is one then they compete against the other kinds of acts. So adults or children they all have a chance to win,.......unless they don't and that is all I will say about that. Just after she gets her other mic they pan 4 people that is Angelina's family. from L-R Uncle Mike her manager, Julliette her baby sister, Mom, with the blonde hair, and last, her partner in crime, Grandma Mery Zamani. What everyone is thinking is "I GOT SECOND!!!!!". Simon was right, because Angelina hadn't written it yet. She chooses the music she does her own arranging she even makes the clothes she wears. That out started as one of her Grandma's paintings. Those are all images of Angelina's journey through music. So she had the material made from that. Angelina’s manager from the beginning is her uncle Michael Astar. From article of Music Norway interview we learn that Michael was raised in Japan and music was always his passion. After his family moved to Norway, Michael became a hip-hop DJ. As a 16-year old he was a DJ at 21+ night clubs in Oslo, Norway, getting the gigs because he looked older and no one asked his age before being hired. After getting tired of being a DJ, Michael started a music management company in 2013, and 3 months later, with no clients yet, Angelina signed-up to try out for Norway’s Got Talent. Angelina’s first audition when 7-years old was a cover of Billie Holiday’s song “Gloomy Sunday” that went viral when it got uploaded to RU-vid. Then Angelina won Norway’s Got Talent, had other viral RU-vids, performed on Norway, US and other TV shows and her career started to take off. Eventually she had over 1 billion views of her performances on RU-vid and Facebook before Angelina’s appearances on the American’s Got Talent - The Champions show. Her performances there further accelerated her career. At this point, Angelina asked her uncle Michael if it was possible for her to move to the US to pursue her music dreams. Michael says this was a tough call, and he asked himself questions like; how on earth are you going to pull this off? What about a VISA? What about finances? Are you willing to sell everything you have and own, and also get a loan to risk everything? Michael related that “These were questions I had to ask myself, several times a day. All in baby. Her smile made it all worth the hassle.” “We stayed patient because the way this industry works is bizarre and you have to dodge bullets right and left to get anywhere. But would I do it again? Of course! Life without challenge is boring," Michael says. For Michael, a lot of his time involves talking with industry people, to see what’s happening out there. Having recently become a father and with COVID-19, time has become even busier and more crazy than usual. “There is a lot of stuff happening with Angelina, and it requires daily briefings with a lot of people.” America’s Got Talent had always been interested in bringing Angelina to the show, but with their normal contract, artists are being locked into a label, management, and other things for many years. Michael says that it did not matter if you get exposure or not, it was out of the question to give away that many rights. This kind of patience eventually paid off. Michael said that “Some time passed and they again contacted me, asking if she wanted to sing on their show. I convinced them to give me a contract where Angelina is free from any deal if she performs, she is great for their TV show and Angelina will get the exposure she needs to breakthrough, because I knew, the talent is one of the kind like no other, I just needed her to be seen and was on a daily hunt for how to get the right spot for her in the USA.” After, Angelina’s success on America’s Got Talent, she eventually signed with Republic Records in August 2020 where Angelina was told she was Republic’s highest priority new artist. Michael says the commitment with the right interest in mind has been one of the most important things when choosing a team and partners to be part of Angelina’s team. “You also need to choose someone with the right chemistry. These are the people you have to deal with on a daily basis, you have to have a good feeling and chemistry with the team you choose.” Although no specifics yet, Michael says that the plans for Angelina include going global. Advice from Michael: “Go with your instinct, it never fails, crazy how nature does that. Always be humble, you get way further being a nice person, people tend to be nice back. Always read the contract. Find a good lawyer (It’s super hard to find the good one, but with dedication, you can). Don’t rely on people, you want something done? Do it yourself. If you are good at something, never do it for free (Quote from the Joker).”

This performance was the first time I ever heard of this little barefoot angel. She sent shivers down my spine. I immediately started to learn everything I could about her. Nobody had touched me like she did, since the late Eva Cassidy when I found her. I follow a lot of great young singers, but nobody comes close to comparing to Angelina and her God provided ability and talent. The best singer and person than anybody that has ever or will ever perform.

Angelina covers so many genres that picking her 10 best, or 25 best, is more personal taste than anything else. Just look through her songs and pick something you like. It’s that simple because they are all amazingly good-any style, any age. As others have mentioned, I Put a Spell on You-the b&w video at 9 years old-would be in the RU-vid Hall of Fame if there was one. Also, I think you misunderstood-when she won Norway’s Got Talent at 7-8 years old, it was not a kids contest. Like AGT, Angelina was competing against all contestants.

Angelina performed twice more for AGT Champions II. She sang "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and was the singer of a three-person group, with the other two being a violinist (Tyler Butler-Figueroa) and sand artist (Kseniya Simonova). Angelina did not make it into the top 5 because, I believe, she would not sign the required AGT contract.

This is very good, very instructive of Angelina's risk-taking and fearlessness (to mess with an already iconic song and own it in front of Simon and the world), shows off her varied and capable vocal toolkit, probably propelled her into the American audience more than any other performance, and is probably in most top 10's of her work. That said, there are many others that are equally stunning or more. Feeling Good, It's a Man's World, A Million Years Ago, I Put a Spell On You, Stay, Her own Million Miles, I'd Rather Go Blind, Wicked Game, La Boheme, and How Great Thou Art are a few examples. Her covers of Adele's All I Ask, Michael Jackson's Billie Jean & the Beatle's Yesterday are out of this world & I think all 3 are better than the originals. She takes iconic songs by legendary vocal artists & re-interprets them into her own Jazzy/Pop style to make them new again. That's real talent!!!

Mr. D, what a great natural reaction. This is actually my all-time favorite AJ song. Without regard to age and besides her vocals, the lyric renovation, the arrangement, and the presentation just look at the environment. She sang for the guy she wanted to impress, live audience, taped to be shown to millions, beginning with the most delicate a capella ever heard by human ears. She stood up there so confident, so relaxed, and sang just like you said, "Perfection". How would you like to follow that golden buzzer 13 year old? Umm… I'm afraid this isn't actually among my top 10 AJ favorites. [grin] It's very, very good, yes, and it certainly was a major milestone in her career… but there are at least 10 other performances of hers that I'd rather listen to (possibly 20 - I don't actually have a ranked list of favorites, just a chronological list of several dozen performances I often recommend to people). And BTW, "perfection" isn't my criterion for what constitutes her best stuff. Interstingly, it doesn't seem to be her criterion, either (in terms of what she seems to think makes for a successful cover). While it's true that she can be absolutely perfect when she "needs to be", when you look at her "RU-vid covers" recorded at home (hers or someone else's) from age 11 to 13 - some singing over a karaoke track and some accompanied by a solo guitarist - it's hard to avoid the conclusion that she values "getting the feeling right" over "getting the lyrics right", or any other consideration. After all, she could easily have made them all perfect by simply doing more takes (or rehearsing more before starting to record). But she didn't. (Both guitarists who have accompanied her in those "RU-vid covers" have said that they were done with very little planning or rehearsal. Most were done in one or two takes, and if multiple takes were required, it was usually because the guitarist messed up.)
