I was 12 years old in 1964 when I first heard “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” by The Beatles. After listening to that and the flip side of the 45 RPM, “I Saw Her Standing There” hundreds of times, I literally remember feeling an electricity in the air that something was changing in our world (as much as I could at age 12). I am 68 now and, after listening to Angelina Jordan sing, I feel that same electricity once again. We know the impact that The Beatles had (and still have) on the world, and I truly feel that Angelina could be as influential as them. She is destined to be a superstar!

A voice coach who reacted to this said he was impressed that she sang the high notes with "mixed voice" instead of just "head voice." That made me appreciate it more because I wasn't too impressed with it when I first heard it, compared to her other covers. I still think jazz and soul are her bread and butter, though. Her voice is made for songs like "A Million Years Ago," "Stay", and "I Put a Spell on You" more than "I Have Nothing," and no one can sing those songs as well as she can.
She has such a large range in her voice very high highs and very low lows. You can hear in her voice though that English is not her first language. Some of her words are a bit thick. Hubby and I listen to every song we can find of hers! Great talent!
it took a lot of guts for her to do that song from Queen a lot of fans of Queen in music lovers are very touchy about that song very touchy about other people trying to do it. With that said she nailed it.
The best thing about this performance is you know she's not afraid to go out of her comfort zone. I have listened to this cover a lot now and I can still vividly remember the first time it appeared on my notif. I'm like no way...she should not be singing this. And then watched it for the first time I knew right there she nailed it but I'm not sure if I wanted her to push more on this kind of Whitney songs. I just felt that time that it was too big that even well known divas are not interested in tackling the song. But then again when I watched it a couple of times more that's when I started to appreciate the little things Angelina did on the song. And then I came to cross this video where they put AJ's cover and Whitney's performance video together in one and realized Angelina's version has a higher key and she's hitting it like it's nothing. And since then I knew...I should not be doubting her again. She's not just musically genius she's also one hell of a brave artist. AT A VERY YOUNG AGE.
@@BlackWolfSpirit And Angelina's performance is far more emotionally charged than Whitney's, because, as I've said before in comments, Angelina has the innate ability to identify the emotions within the lyrics and convey those self same emotions to the listener There is no other performer I know who can do this once only and Angelina does it every time.

A superlative piece of singing by anyone, and she's only 13. Got the big notes, and I also love how she handled so many of the smaller bits. Such richness. Nice reaction. Good to hear someone expound on the technical aspects. And I agree, she killed it. Another person who apparently agrees with that sentiment is David Foster, who originally wrote this song for Whitney, and came out of the woods to accompany Angelina on the piano in another performance of the song, so that's a pretty damn impressive accomplishment all on it's own.

Nice performance by a very young Norwegian girl singing American English. It belies anything I've heard lately or ever. "A song for A." by Nicosio based on a Robert Burns poem put to music by an Italian sung by Angelina, give it a listen or two; it's a trip back over 200 years to something beautiful, a very smooth Angelina. She had you at the first whisper, didn't she? She's courageous, that's for sure, & I agree she pretty much nailed this one. But she even went after Freddie Freakin' Mercury, with Queen's The Show Must Go On. I don't think she blew that one out of the water quite like she did here, but she certainly did a remarkable job of it.
A gentle disagreement with you here. I'd had never listened to Queen until I'd heard Angelina singing The Show Must Go On, so I had nothing to compare her performance with. That led me to find a recording of Freddie Mercury and Queen singing the same song. Good, but.. I wonder how popular it would have been without all the visual effects, My vote goes to Angelina.
She is a unique voice. Go back and watch her at age 9 Don't expect her to sound like Houston. This kid is a jazz singer and has been different from day one.
She is trying out her swimming legs bro...its not about being perfect but to gather feedback on what she is good or not so great at. That is her primary objective now, which is to explore and understand her repetoire, while continuing to strengthen her core, and her 1st love, which is R&B and Jazz...Ultimately, at the end of the day, its not about the results, its what you can learn from it, both good and bad, that is important and how she can use it to chart her own course and destiny. She is a sensitive soul and she will need loads of self confidence to deal with the negativity that will inevitably come which overwhelms even the best of us.
Angelina's cover is the best for me. When I cover Whitney, I focus only on the high tones, but I think it's completely different. Control of this nuance! The connection between words is important, and it's jazz. Amening! Angelina!
There is a 14 year old young lady from Tashkent, Uzbekistan that does a cover of Whitney Houston's "Run to You" Her name is Sabina Mustaeva , available on RU-vid from Kids Voice Russia posted by Sonice57. Native language is Russian and not sure she even speaks English. Want some goosebumps then give this a listen. The absolute best cover of that song I have ever heard.

It would have been good if you had been introduced to Angelina with her audition on Norway's Got Talent where she captured some of Billie Holiday's style with "Gloomy Sunday" when she was 7yrs old. Amazing ! For the same reason you should see Amira Willighagen on Holland's Got Talent 2013 (Eng. subs) singing "O Mio Babbino Caro" when she was 9yrs. old. It is an opera song she learned off RU-vid with no vocal training. She won the competition. Someone else who does a good cover of "I Have Nothing" is S.Korean singer So Hyang, (She really nails it.) but I'd probably suggest her cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" first instead. Great reaction Nate! Something important to point out here... this girl had just turned 13 years old when she recorded this. The thing you noticed with the words.. some people have pointed that out as a timing issue or that she rushed it. But really it's that she changed the words a little there. The original said "I won't hold it back again" and Angelina says "I don't want to hold it back again". so stuffing extra syllables into the same space gives it a rushed feel. Angelina going after songs with Freddie Mercury is even braver than going after Whitney Houston in my opinion. Angelina did a great cover of "The Show Must Go On". She even rehearsed "Bohemian Rhapsody", but she hasn't yet made a cover she has posted. I guess she wants her voice to develop a little bit further before she is happy with her performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody". That is a very very difficult song to sing. One day she will nail that song. Freddie Mercury is possibly the best rock singer of all time. How he was able to sing "The Show Must Go On" so well while dying from AIDS is beyond what I can understand. Not even Dimash is close to singing that song as well as Freddie. I guess you need to be dying to sing "The Show Must Go On" with the same emotions as Freddie did. It was like the song was his farewell song to his fans. The latest version of "Time Waits For No One" is just the final proof how great Freddie was. Anyway, I think Angelina's covers of "I have Nothing" and "The Show Must Go On" shows that Angelina is feeling her voice is becoming more powerful. So she wanted to try out difficult songs she has always wanted to sing. I believe she got a big confidence boost she was able to nail such difficult songs as well as she did. Still not perfect, but better than most who have tried these songs. What is important to me is that Angelina is pushing her limits and that means we will see her continue to improve as we are so used to. Angelina has already shown she has a very beautiful voice with lots of emotion and passion. "Song For A" is a perfect example. She just needs her chest to grow a bit, get more experience and be taught by a great voice teacher how to improve her vocal range and breathing technique. Then she will become a legendary singer when she is at her peak. Probably better than Whitney and maybe as good as Freddie. That is what I hope for. Angelina has set her target that high.
@@alberttenfoot I read that one reason Angelina's family moved to LA was because they couldn't find a voice teacher in Norway who could improve her voice for jazz and blues kind of songs. So I'm sure her family knows very well what kind of teaching she needs to be unique. Angelina won't end up somewhere in the pop business. Her heart lies within jazz and related genres. Angelina once said she has a mission reviving people's interest in the old great songs.

I'm thinking that now Angelina is working on her upper range chest voice with a vocal coach and her breathing also, and i think that this performance had more than a few takes and she is a little bit tired, if that can be said for someone who sings all the time. so it is sort of ''practice'' for her and later she will do better if she wants to put more in to it. , but it remains to be seen which direction she takes and how her natural talents evolve as well as they have shifted over the years. Even when its a song that has been practiced and performed repeatedly over time, it can be difficult fight that fatigue and stay consistent. My band covers Your Love by The Outfield and no matter how many times I sing it, the third verse is always a battle to do as well as the first two. Thats the nature of the beast though, I suppose

Maybe When Angelina is in her twenties a fair comparison could be made, but for up and coming mega super stars Angelina is far ahead of the pack right now with expertise in just about all genres of song and performances. You can, in parts of the song, particularly the high end belts, that she is still physically developing, simple lung capacity is restricted by her age as is vocal chord length. She's reaching for stuff that's she's just not ready for at this age. But when you add physical maturity to her incredible natural abilities and insane vocal control she is going to be top 5 worldwide. She's also very creative in how she approaches her performance. Using volume and range changes in interesting ways. My god when she hits 30 or so she's going to be incredible. We're talking future all time great.

I lose some of her words when she sings, but even with hearing aids I have trouble hearing well, and I believe that English isn't her first language. She brings that jazz singer voice to pretty much all of her covers, be it jazz, blues, pop or rock. That is what makes her unique from anyone else. Other than Nora Jones, I can't think of another living female jazz singer alive in her category. I'm looking forward to hearing her perform once she finds her mature voice and has a better idea of what she's singing about. Meanwhile, let's enjoy what she has now - she is amazing!
Angelina does the hesitation often. When she’s changing it up, she hesitates longer than usual between phrases and then catches up the lyrics later. In other words, it’s not a mistake, she’s doing it on purpose. It caught your attention, didn’t it?

As soon as she steps on the stage she goes through a form of metamorphosis - from a young child to a professional singer, with complete control of her performance and her audience. I have seen her doing this in every performance, from the first time I saw her in the audition of Norway's Got Talent to her latest. She is probably unaware how this happens but it does, every time.7

@@knate_official I think she means that whitney did hers in the studio where she could do multiple takes of select parts and piece together the final cut.... whereas Angelina is doing it live in a single take. I'm not sure if that holds much weight though, because I know whitney could kill this song live.

Angelina made it clear she can reach Whitney level, but we need more stamina. Some stylistic choices she made left her out of breath, running out of steam in spots, fighting for air, but this was a nice surprise.
