Hello you TWO, Angelina Jordan (AJ) was discovered by her mom, singing into a microphone at age 1,5. Angelina found Jazz and Soul at age 2 and decided to practice singing for 36 hours a week at age 3. When age 4 she entered the academy of music and performing arts for technical advise, late she did the same in LA, where she resides since 2019. She auditioned for Norway Gots Talent at age 7 and half a year later won the competition as the youngest ever. She was ennobled as the Treasure of Norway by King and Country in late summer 2014 at age 8. Vocal experts (I´m talking of opera singers and professional Vocal educators) see in her the next GOAT of Jazz and Soul. Today, in 2023 she celebrated her 17th birthday on January 10th. She still is a humble person, well behaved with immens patience for others. When 8 years old she participated in Berlin in a TV show "Ein Herz fuer Kinder" (a heart for the children) and gathered withother stars 21 MILLION Deutsch Mark. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. She has been known as "the Boss" by her musicians from around the age of 7 or 8... a musical genius and the greatest singer I have ever heard... As you say, her song choices themselves are remarkable: she grew up listening to jazz and fell in love with it when she was still tiny.. There were 4 vignettes that relate directly to her life. The bare feet she will always perform bare footed because of a street girl who had scales and was guessing peoples weight to earn money long story somebody will write better, she promised as a remembarence of this girl to always perform that way. It also serves as a reminder to to the rest of us that there are many people who have no shoes or even have the choice to wear their shoes or not. She even wrote a children's book, around this time of this video, that was illustrated by her grandma Mery Zamani who was a child prodigy in painting and poetry growing up in Iran. The second scene she is making changes to the score at the last minute. Angelina not only picks the songs she will sing, but she also arranges them how she wants them to be played. While singing is her main gift she has become a first class arranger. She started learning composition and theory at around 5-6 years old. And she is definitely in charge, the musicians who played with her gave her the nickname 'The Boss' at around 6. Angelina is not just a great singer she is a musician. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Great reaction! I have been following Angelina since early 2016 (possibly late 2015) and this is the first time I have heard the Liza Minnelli reference, but I can totally see that. Yes, Angie is 9 here, and is currently 17. It would probably be good to go to her AGT performances of Bohemian Rhapsody and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, then jump back her Norway's Got Talent performances from 2014. She was 7 when they started and 8 when they ended. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina's bare feet have a special significance for her. She has made a commitment to always perform barefoot in public since meeting a homeless child on a street in the Middle-East. Oslo-born Angelina was six years old and tells of being taken aback when she encountered the girl, who was the same age or perhaps slightly older, offering to weigh passers-by on an old bathroom scale in exchange for money to feed herself and her siblings. Angelina stopped to speak with the girl, presumably in Farsi (her maternal grandmother's mother tongue), and discovered the girl was an orphan forced to fend for herself. At some point in their conversation, the girl complimented Angelina on her green ankle boots which Angelina, noticing the girl had no shoes and feet which bore the scars of a hard existence, promptly offered to the girl. Reluctant at first to accept such perhaps reckless generosity, the girl was persuaded after some back and forth (and presumably the absence of any objection from Angelina's mother and grandmother in the background). Angelina, who once again was SIX, then asked the girl about her dreams for the future, to which the girl lamented that she would have loved to become a doctor but she recognised that her circumstances made this very unlikely. Angelina encouraged the girl to never give up on her dreams and revealed her own dream, which had long been to sing for the whole world to enjoy. Perhaps right there or at least soon after, she decided she would do so barefoot "until every child worldwide can have shoes" as a reminder to herself and others of impoverished children throughout the globe. As the pair parted company, the orphan girl promised to pray for Angelina every day and perhaps, like Angelina, she has kept to her pledge because Angelina's dream is starting to come true. Angelina went home and recorded the encounter in a journal she kept. Three years later, now having achieved international notoriety following her barefoot performances on Norske Talenter (Norway's version of the 'Got Talent' franchise), barefoot guest spots on TV and radio worldwide and viral videos, always barefoot, such as the one you've now seen, she turned her journal jottings into a book entitled Mellom to hjerter (Between Two Hearts). God gave her a deeeeep voice (she sang a song in the same key as Elvis), God gave her a HIGH intelligence and an even bigger heart. Some people estimate her singing contralto, others say alto, but she can sing real deep. Her vocal range is estimated between 2,5 and 4 octaves, today, 2023.

Yes. She’s 17 now and has signed with Republic Records. She will be putting out a new album this year. She was 8 years old when she won Norway’s Got Talent. At the age of six, she did four studio recordings, my favorite one was “I, who have nothing “. She also wrote a book titled “Between Two Hearts” in which she explains why she performs barefoot. Yes, this was all her, her song selection, arrangement, direction. She is the driving force of her career, her family limits her involvement so she can have a somewhat normal childhood. AJ won Norway's Got Talent a year earlier with 4 performances, culminating with Summertime, a performance that left judges in tears. Great review, look forward to many more.

She began singing at 1-1/2...she was raised on Jazz by her grandmother...playing for her all the standards...Ella, Diana, Gershwin, Billie Holiday, Louis, etc. You should check her national debut on Norway's Got Talent, with English subtitles. She is Norwegian...but speaks several languages. Japanese, English, I'd imagine French or Italian. She plays several instruments and writes all her arrangements including this one. It's her Homage to the original artist Screaming Jay Hawkins. You saw his picture she held up on that candle. She sings barefoot every time she sings as a protest to shoeless children. And that's a whole study in itself. She gave her shoes to a shoeless girl she memet in the Mid East and has raised over $10 Million so far. Check her live guitar only seasons. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on RU-vid in 2014, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with TOTAL CONVICTION, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. She arranged the song to reflect how she felt it deserved to be sung to tell its story. She has been arranging songs since the age of seven. Her musicality is beyond comprehension. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.
