Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway. So she is 18 now. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on RU-vid. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Musicians working with Angelina would call her the boss since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song and would confidently instruct the musicians. While one could say Angelina was mimicking other artists, there is no doubt she had her own style and created her own arrangements, even at this early age. Angelina was near her 8th birthday for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition to trim the number of vocalists who passed their audition, and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang.” In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. The money was placed in a trust and available when Angelina turns 18. Record company executives flew their private jets to Norway to attempt to sign 8 year old Angelina but all were thankfully rebuked. Disney also made an offer but not accepted. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore and Mexico among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. Don't feel bad about not being blown away by hearing her singing at 9 years old. I first heard her at 13 , and it was nearly 2 years before I heard another song. Since then I listen daily, and I am still amazed by the artistry of this girl. Keep listening, there's a wide variety to pick from.

I love all genres of music and appreciate the artists who have crossed my life. Angelina is absolutely no exception. I came across I Put A Spell on you over 7 years ago and immediately got hooked on this beautiful soul. As with many Angels, we are witness to a generational talent , an unstoppable force with many years before her. My only wish is to still be here for many more years as she grows to be the powerhouse she deserves to be. Glad you took a minute to listen to more of her. Sometimes she’ll take “classics” (I’m thinking Elvis Presley and Suspicious Minds) and put a twist on it without going too far from the original. It will leave the listener shaking their head. She really is an amazing young singer.

She's actually 18 years old now. f you can believe it, she started singing at 18 months and there's video proof of it! CRAZY! She was heavily influenced early on by the jazz greats, like Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Etta James, and more. As she got older, her influences grew such as Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Adele, and a few others. It's hard to judge any singer from listening to one song, so I'm glad you listen to another song of hers. No need to binge watch anyone like Angelina, however, just keep coming back to her every now and then to see how's she's doing. She has an amazing low range that you've yet to hear. Try "Born to Die " or "Stay"which isn't as low but different than you've heard.

She has worked her tail off to get to the level she is. Not just polishing up something she was born with. She is 18, her birthday is January 10th. 2006. From some of the thumbnail photos on your channel you might like her cover of Crazy. There are several choices but I think you should avoid the one where she is sitting next to a guitarist in front of a window with blinds on it because her mic has the electric guitar bleed into it and it degrades the audio quality somewhat. There are some versions of her rehearsals of this on Angelina Fan Club Mozars that her grandmother recorded.

I looked through some of your videos and it seems that you lean more towards the older country music. That’s good, I like country music too. But I also rock, lues, jazz, and anything that sounds good. Angelina’s beginning was more of a jazz influence. But she can sing any genre she chooses and does it well. You should check out her cover of Jolene by Dolly Parton. There are many covers that she has done, many if not all, she did better than the original.

My suggestion for you is to do some research on Angelina Jordan Astar. You can’t just start reacting to a few isolated songs of hers at different ages, without having some idea of what this girl is all about, how she learned to sing, where she’s from and what her family’s like. She’s not just another singer!

You don't need to apologize for being underwhelmed by Angelina in "Spell". You're one of the very few. Taste is taste. I truly believe part of that is the "disconnect" between what you're seeing and what you're hearing. A deep dive isn't necessary. Just try to keep AJ in the rotation. I think you will find much that you like.

Good reaction. There are 2 versions of this where she sings in a church, one where she starts accopello and sings and the intruments come in later, the other with just her, a piano and cello. Both these versions in my opinion are better than this one.
