Hi, Ashlena! Thank you for another grand reaction to Angelina. The first performance you featured was recorded by Boris Palenovski, an Angelina superfan, either on a mobile phone or simple video-recorder. As there were to be no official recordings of the concert, he had to get permission to make these recordings. He remained for the entire concert end recorded every performance. If he had not been present, only those at the event would have experienced the magic of Angelina on that day. The second performance was some three weeks later at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival, an annual event which has been going since 1964. Angelina has had professional advice on how to sing to prevent damage to her vocal cords. I understand that this was advice she received after her performance of "I put a spell on you" at age 9.
@@ashlenamusic Why did you fear for her voice? The first song you heard from her was a recent original..you saw then that no harm has come to her voice..
Please continue to be true to yourself. It’s appreciated. In addition to the above comment I might add that you’d smile if you saw the venue of the first event. It’s across a small lake in a fortress in Oslo. Behind the camera is the harbour. Quite a challenge for any singer. 😊 The second event is the Kongsberg jazz festival (up the road from here). Hence, the improvement in sound quality and also a more jazzy feel. I saw the Christina Aguilera cover performance at the Emmys and, you’re right, they do compare. Note the different body performance though. 😆 Nice reaction again. Thanks.
This concert was about the same time they released the album. So the intent was to discourage recording. It was outdoors and the stage.was 100 meters from the audience. The guy who released this spent about a year recovering & enhancing it. The second one was the same summer at a local jazz festival.
Oh wow that’s amazing. I’m not giving the person who recorded this any hate I was just saying it was really hard to listen to when she was belting a little loud because the audio quality wasn’t the best.
In reality, the first recording was via cellphone. Be assured, according to Boris, the song was impeccable as performed, band included. The reason there is no professional recording, is that professional equipment is not allowed at this ancient castle. There is a longer version that explains this.
Angelina is the girl with a thousand voices ! She can sing the phone book and make it sound great ! She sounds like Amy, Adele, Etta, Ella , Nora and many others ! She progressed naturally and her voice is in great shape at 17 ! You're the first to hear Christina and that is a testament to her voice ! Thank you for this much much appreciated ! 👍🇨🇦❤️
Remember Angelina is an 11 year old Norweigan in the first clip and English is her third language ( Norweigan Farsi, english). Most US reactors seem to take her singing in English for granted. Europeans not so much. She had not moved to the US until she was a much older teenager. She wrote WHAT IS LIFE and SHIELD in English, both performed at age 12. Angelina and Amy were both influenced by early jazz greats. It was filmed on a phone (and is older technology) ....so it's as unfiltered as you can get. At one time or another Angelina sounds like every great vocal diva there has ever been because she flexes her vocal colour tone and texture and key any which way she chooses. It is that quality that makes many rate her as one of the great vocalists of all time. When you watch these songs you realise 1. She is 11 and 12 in both these performances and 2. It should leave you in no doubt she can belt. As we can hear her at 17 we know unlike Adele she has never had problems with her voice.
Good morning, you are not old ❤ when you enjoy music, you feel alive and much younger 😅the Soul never gets Old 🥳 Some Songs of Angelina need time to grow in you when you listen to it several times to notice the deeper meaning and connection she's talking about,💕her Main theme is Love. Her quote from her last concert in Norway..be kind to each other and spread Love 💕 because we need it more in the world 🌍
I have never heard a singer who could take a song like this into the stratosphere, then perform a 'super low', sustained register like she does in 'How Great Thou Art' that was an epic Elvis song. Not even 'The King' holds sustained lyrical lines in this low register for as long as she does. I haven't even delved into all the other different genre songs, that number over 200, where she also applies excellence to. By far, she is simply the most versatile singer this planet has ever produced, and she's not even out of her teen years. It's simply mind boggling when you begin to analyze this girl's singing ability.
One of the things very common to see is reactors saying she sounds like other singers, cause she does sound like all of them at once, something you can't say about anyone else.
Nice reaction, and I appreciate your giving honest reactions rather than simply pandering because you know what fans want to hear. I find both of these performances phenomenal, partly because of her age at the time (12), partly because of the soul that pours out of her in them regardless of her age. James Brown would be proud, though the differences in mannerisms are stark - James Brown was often sweating bullets during this song and his theatrics were a joy. Angelina's just the opposite - visually cool as a cucumber while slaying this song. Hope you keep doing Angelina reactions, there are plenty of songs (150+ covers, 7-8 originals) to choose from and most are terrific, though in often different ways. Her versatility is amazing in itself.
These to performances were less than a month apart. The first was 16th June 2018, age 12. This was with the military band, launching the album It's Magic. No professional recording was allowed then. Angelina played of the rather strident Clarinet, surprising the conductor with the power of her vocals! As a contrast to that, just a few days later Angelina was in London, opening a concert at the O2 arena. Quincy Jones invited her to open his 85th birthday concert, she sang Fly me to the Moon - rather more relaxed vibe, complete with a symphony orchestra. Then returned to Oslo to rehearse for the concert in Kongsberg on 7th July. Here, although no video, the audio recording was at a professional level, but contrasting to the first performance, with a Jazz band. The guitarist is exceptional! If you would like to hear an original song by Angelina, with most of the jazz band from the second performance. The concert was in Norway 10th July 2022 (age 16), the song, Million Miles, written as a tribute to her grandpa who passed away in November 2019. Here, still not a professional recording, but mobile phones have progressed so much since the early days. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-clH0PC4PEPQ.html
Thank you for your reaction to the most versatile young female artist we have in the music world today. We only need "heavy metal" so the list is complete. But it will probably come too, it won't surprise me!
I've said many times, it's like all the greats, past and present, in heaven and still living, got together and smiled on the sweetest soul they could find and blessed her with a voice to sooth the soul of the world. That's why we hear a little of so many others. The interesting thing though is that all the singers we think we hear can only sing their way, Angelina has so much skill that she can create many different sounds and textures that the others can't. It's why people call her the singer with a thousand voices. So much more for you to hear.
Hi Ashlena 👋. Love that wonderful and honest reaction to 12 Angelina double hit. The 1st one was in Oslo of June 2018 when she was 12 and the 2nd one was at her Kongsberg concert in 2018 also but shortly later & she was also 12. The 2nd one was with her smaller stage band. Remember that she never sings a song the same way twice and even her originals. You can say they’ll all be 1st time reactions. ❤ (PS Ashlena, Please react to Laura Bretan's cover of "Adagio". Like I've said before. She’s not well known outside her musical circle cause of her genre's but her voice and character are amazing and she's also a Prodigy ❤). God bless you and your family too 🙏 ✝️❤ 🙂👍
Excellent double reaction, it's a cover made at a "delicate" age in which the voice certainly has continuous variations due to growth, the Amy / Christina combination is appropriate, important, in my humble opinion, is that by closing my eyes I immediately recognize the His voice, at all ages, means maintaining a precise personality, both exceptional performances and, thinking of the unattainable age, thanks again, good life and music... Massimo PS: I totally agree with the comment at the beginning of the video👍🤩
She has 6 self-(co)-written originals. The first two (What Is Life, Oslo) she wrote on her own at around age 11, for the other 4 (Shield, Million Miles, 7th Heaven, Love Don't Let Me Go) she had help. Three more songs were written for her (Song For A, Above The Water, We're The Best). Here's a playlist for all her originals, many done at several occasions: ru-vid.com/group/PLddfS789jBCows3lQAxFixqTj_rFbGFLM
Most are covers, songs from the American Songbook are not to be missed as they are definitive examples of growth in technique and arrangement skills. Her version of Every time We Say Goodbye, rooftop version, is a.a great version from her change at 10 y.o. Parade when everything she recorded that year showed she had taken command of her own voice and less mimicked of an influence. She easily stands next to Ella in that song, and she’s 10!
Hi Hashlena. Not many of the reactors I've watched on Utube in the past 4 years "dared" to criticize Angelina. I don't agree with some of the "difects" you found in her( I must confess that I'm heavily biased) but I appreciate the intellectual honesty. How boring would it be if we all saw things exactly the same way.😁 My name is Danilo, an Angel from Rome Italy. She's the best vocalist I've ever heard in my long long life, and I've seen all the greats. I've had the privilege and the great honor to see and "hear" her live. Kongsberg july 7th 2022. Keyboard, standup bass, guitar( electric or acustic it's the same) that's all she needs. No autotune or reverb or any of the other computerized gimmics they use in a studio rec. Live on stage, that's where she's at her best. Ohh, I almost forgot you got a new subscriber. Bye🤩
IMO, you can’t complain about the audio and video quality when this is the only fan recording of this performance. I am grateful to Boris Palenovski for being there to video this remarkable performance.
You do realize that I didn’t say anything negative about it. I just said it’s unfortunate that the audio wasn’t the greatest. I don’t understand why you’re taking some thing and making it even more negative than it was meant to be. Have a good day.
My all time favourite artist ( until I found Angelina Jordan ) was Marvin Gaye , there were even a few of his tracks I didn't like and would fast forward or lift up the needle and move on. We all have to have difference opinions and respect that fact. I enjoy your honesty and channel.
Ashlena, Thank you for playing my request... as I expected, great review. Your comment about Angelina being the child of Amy Winehouse and Christina Aguilera is not the first person to come up with that. Some others are Amy and Elvis had a love child is a popular one, and of course Adele is had several baby Angelina's with different folks . They point is, they are all right, Angelina's voice does that with whom ever she covers. It one of things (out of many) that make her so special. BTW your comment about Lana Delray, Angelina covered her several times (AJ's a big fan of her,). you might want to check out one of them. Thanks again...I hope everyone here considers and joins your Patreon like I have.
Thanx for your reactions. I don’t think it’s ok to spew hateful comments… disagreeing is ok - that’s a good foundation for discussion… anyone writing hateful comments because you don’t like something can just stop watching you - and in any case I don’t think Angelina would consider them to be Angels (it’s just not in her being to be hateful) ❤
_"...a baby of Christina Aguilera and Amy Winehouse"_ 😄 Good comment. You're right, sometimes it's hard to make out the words on this one. It's the difficulty of singing in general to place consonants and at the same time to get sound. She doesn't have many originals as of yet, but they're on the way. An EP will be released soon and I believe another album is coming out at the end of the year. Until then, please bear with us with some covers, some of which are totally in your style (e. g. Lana del Rey). As always, your reaction made my day. 🙂
Nice reaction, Ashlena! I relate to your having standards and preferences and welcome your honesty. To reassure you about Angelina's voice, some very experienced professional singers and vocal coaches have reacted to her singing, and I've only heard one express concern about Angelina's technique, but she only listened to I Put A Spell On You. Her concern wasn't the growling, but Angelina using her tongue root to darken her sound on that song. I think her voice is safe. It's wonderful to hear you acknowledge the uniqueness of AJ's vocal talent. Keep the reactions and interesting insights coming! :) My favorite original of Angelina's (so far) is 7th Heaven. I prefer the studio live version, found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bM8DzMRbiIc.html
The first one was from the release concert of her first album It's Magic, which she recorded about half a year earlier when she was still eleven: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7lb2u45W-yU.html&pp=iAQB8AUB Of course the sound quality of the album recording is much better, but some fans prefer this one, saying things like her voice would sound more mature, or that she sounded more engaged life. I like the 2nd one you played best, I just would have loved if she'd came back after the guitar soli. BTW, these two were done only a few weeks apart.
So to the music… I don’t know, but I think you may enjoy more of her ‘upgrades’ (covers where she really redo the songs almost completely, but at the same time respect the original)… like; “suspicious minds”, “yellow brick road” etc… and of course her originals; “Shield”, “7th heaven” etc…
Hi Ashlena... I totally agree with what you said in your Intro. Not everything of our beloved Idols is pure gold. Even Aurora, who I adore, has Songs which I always skip, cause I don't like them. WISDOM CRIES... I hate that one 😂
Hi darling I love your honest reaction actually honesty is the best policy so please keep being honest and even though I am an Angelina's big fan I am absolutely agree with u about her original ( love don't let me go) I am not saying I didn't like it I like it but didn't impress me because I know Angelina's capabilities and I like the songs which can show case her insane vocal range 👍👍💙💙💙
I agree. It’s important for AJ to develop her own music and style. Hopefully we will get a peek into that when the new EP is released. (21 July 3 days)
Angelina has never had a steady vocal coach - she is largely self-taught, and in school, she studied the piano, guitar, and songwriting, but not vocal technique that we know of - Also, she sings in a wide variety of styles - she doesn't always belt - as you react to more of her music you will find that she deserves one of her nicknames as the woman of 1,000 voices. If you check out her recent work you will see that her voice is doing fine :) With very few exceptions, Angelina decides what to sing and how to sing it writing her own vocal arrangements and also has input on the instrumental arrangements.
Love your reaction and comments Ashlena. I smiled when you first mentioned Amy Winehouse. When it comes to rabid Angelina fans, Amy is a bit of a “third rail” that you don’t want to step on. 😆 There’s no denying the similarities that Angelina has with Amy, but to many, a simple comparison to her seems to load up Angelina with all of Amy’s troubled baggage. To them the comparisons sully Angelina’s Angelic nature. Of course, Angelina would be flattered by your comparison (that of Christina Aguilera too). Angelina has been a longtime fan of Amy Winehouse and has covered quite a few of her songs (Back to Black is particularly good). There’s even a photo on the internet depicting Angelina with her arm around a life-size statue of Amy (located in London, I believe). As to the comparison with Christina Aguilera, it is accurate too. There’s an unbelievably precious cover of Angelina singing “Hurt“ when she was SIX years old. Angelina’s earnestness will bring a smile to your face, and tears to your eyes. Check it out - here’s the link: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mmMBBsL02uQ.html&pp=ygUhYW5nZWxpbmEgam9yZGFuIGh1cnQgY2hyaXN0aW5hIGFn
@@ashlenamusic Well yes, of course not. Personally I find it hard NOT to compare Angelina’s voice to Amy’s, but for many, to make that comparison is to diminish Angelina’s talent in some way which of course, is impossible.
Angelina fans like me have no problem with reactors comparing amy and Angelina , I do take offence when people accuse Angelina of copying/ mimicking amy , often they are just trolls or those who have never took the time and effort to view more than 1 performance if that .
@@ashlenamusicIt's not surprising to me amy and Angelina are often compared both were influenced/ inspired by the same jazz greats of the past it's inevitable they would have both have a distinct jazz feel vocally , personally that's all I hear jazz tone , play them side by side and to me completely different " voice " , being compared is nothing new when Adele burst onto the scene the British press called her the new " amy winehouse " Adele replied " same gender different genre .
@@tomwhite4736 Angelina today announced the release of her EP (this Friday😉🥰), and quite a few commenters (apparently not familiar with AJ at all) are accusing her of “mimicking” Amy and saying she’s a poor substitute for Amy Winehouse. It’s infuriating. Of course, those that have followed AJ know this is FAR from the truth. In all honesty, I think Angelina’s career will eclipse Amy’s in 10 - 20 years. (⬅️ IMHO 😬) 🎶💐👣
This is not a professionally produced video it’s a fan video that somebody probably took with their cell phone- surprising that it’s not a professional quality?
I’m well aware it wasn’t professionally produced I was just saying it was hard to listen to because of how pitch it was when she had her high notes because of the audio. You good?
@@ashlenamusic most Angelina fans have been listening to performances of her that were captured by amateurs for years and we are just grateful to have a recording of the performance- we adjusted the fact that it’s not going to be studio quality audio long since.
I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction and your genuine and insightful comments. I'm looking forward to your next video. I'd like to share some constructive information that will help your channel and those of your featured artists. Some reactors unintentionally overlook the fact that there are two aspects that will elevate their channel to the next level. A great reaction of course is a given, but also recommended is genuine support and promotion of your featured artists. In my experience, I have seen this generate greater positivity from viewers. Realize most viewers do not go to your description on their own and therefore miss your valuable information. I suggest making the effort to link not only the artist's original video but also their Official RU-vid Channel and social media links. Most important is to direct fans to your description and recommend that viewers like, share, comment, and subscribe to the artist, AND to your channel as well! Also you may suggest that the fans purchase and stream the artists music from their chosen platforms. These actions provide the artist deserved credit and also expose both of you to more people, via the RU-vid algorithm. This also introduces the fans to your playlist and other critical links. It is a win-win for both. Provide the artist equal priority and you will be rewarded with greater fan loyalty and subscriptions. Peace and love.
Christina and Amy had a baby . . . . ! Wonderful observation for this performance, which is one of my favorites. If only Boris had been there to capture it on video! And yes, AJ has the very best of vocal coaches. Also, if you love great guitar solos, here's David Gilmour with one of the best in history: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vi7cuAjArRs.html
So I won’t be doing any unreleased songs I’m so sorry. I’ve been told by so many Melanie fans that she doesn’t want people hearing them. But I will be doing one that she has on SoundCloud soon.
@@ashlenamusic aww that’s a bummer :(( another alternative is to listen to the demos of her songs. I suggest you listen to “void” demo it’s different from the “void” we have now that i personally think is better than the released version! :)

Hey Ashley! I love your reactions! There are a group of people I call COB'S. Cranky Old Bastards. I am convinced they refresh their utube channel 12 hours a day. Please call them out by name!
There is a young singer from Kazakhstan who I think has the purest singing voice I've ever heard. Her name is Daneliya Tuleshova. Dimash has called her a national treasure. I am going to give you 2 links. One is a cover of a Sam Smith song, 'Diamonds' the other is her latest appearance on AGT The All-Stars 2023 where she sings 'Arcade' by Duncan Laurence. 'Diamonds' is a studio effort, while 'Arcade' is a live performance. React to one or both, or react to neither but please at the very least listen and see what you think. We’re all the sum total of our background, life experience and education so Amy Winehouse, Adel Bille Holiday et all too many so yeh there’s bound to be some Amy influence here there and everywhere
I don’t delete comments. I like people to eventually come back and delete their own comments. It’s more fun to watch that way. Because in reality people are just probably having a bad day and taking it out on me.
Even while I believe she's an outstanding singer, especially for her age, I'm not a big fan of that way of singing. Like saying Aguilera's voice is amazing, but not of my liking. This song is definitely great for her type of singing though! She could grow on me maybe after she does more original stuff, but that takes a few years I guess. It's great they got a grasp of her talent at such a young age, she can only go up now.
Well I guess if you're a fan of " Aurora " your comments are understandable .BTW her new original stuff was first written aged 11. she has around 7 written / co written her new original single was released recently its a cracker " Love dont let me go " her EP to be released shortly and a album in the fall all original stuff .
Well I wouldn't call myself a fan of anything. I just listen to whatever comes around that sticks around in my head, Aurora too has many songs that I can't help but instantly skip. I'm just not really into so much vibrato and constant runs, but I can admit it's really impressive, and I wouldn't want her to change this at all. For example, I can safely say that Amy Winehouse was one of the best singers I've ever head, but at the same time I generally didn't like her music at all. Don't get me wrong though, I've heard every Angelina's originals, and I have a few of those in my playlist. I'm still checking her constantly, since I'm amazed by her talent at such a young age, so I'm really curious to see where her career will lead her.
@@mendiganina6001 I assume you do know Angelina is now aged 17 and I do assume you know she coverd over 80 different artists and performed most genre . I assume you're aware that the vast majority of her performances have very little runs most none at all . her new single I would be hard pressed to find any runs .as for amy winehouse she ain't my cup of tea and none of Angelinas performances would get anywhere near my playlist .so we are in agreement on that .
