My Funny Valentine This is my 61st time listening to this MASTERPIECE and each time I experience a new level of perfection by our ethereal prodigy extraordinaire, Angelina Jordan. When you listen to the A cappella portions of this performance at the very end of the song you are truly experiencing the genius of Angelina Jordan’s PERFECT PITCH. Sinatra, rest in peace Angelina Jordan, the Bare Foot Queen has taken the crown and there is nothing like her in the universe. I put this on pause and brought up Sinatra, Bublé, Streisand, Fitzgerald and Vaughan's version of this song to compare it to AJ version, and none of them moved me like this version. It is so hard to comprehend that Angelina from 7 to 16 is the greatest story telling being in my 74 years of experiencing great vocalist and I can't wait for the rest of the story.

Thank you for opening up comments again as you follow along the journey that is Angelina. You, nor any of the reaction channels, deserve anything like the kind of invective you've had to endure to your impressions/ reactions --- it's why you're here! I don't know what to do to stop it, but I can't believe whoever the responsible party is, is an honest Angelina fan. They are something less, words for which are inappropriate here. This young artist is magic to our distressed times (to any time), and Tuesday she will be 17, perhaps not as magic as 16, but she will graduate this year, so magical enough. And we all hope to see her first Republic album sometime this summer, if not (please) sooner. We love Angelina and we love reactors that love her too. We do not hate, period.

Check out Angelina's 1/10/16 release of this song (B&W), which includes the original opening chorus. I found Ella Fitzgerald's "My Funny Valentine" on her "Essential Ella" album, which also includes the opening chorus. The birth of Angelina's phrasing and vibrato can be heard on Ella's version.

Angelina takes her 'breathy' responses from Billie Holiday and the 'raw' inflections like 'slurring' words for effect that Amy Winehouse was known for. Amy was also known for changing 'key' in mid-sentence, which Angelina also does. In this song, six years after her first cover of the Frank Sinatra classic that has been done many hundreds of times by other singers, Angelina brings forth a mesmerizing, sensual presentation that when accompanied by her gorgeous 'Persian Princess' looks, just makes me melt. Her grandma, Mery Zamani, was Iranian and Angelina seems to have inherited her genes. Both were child prodigies. 'Alexander The Great' married a Persian Princess named Roxanne, but if Angelina was there back then, and he heard her 'goddess like' voice and stared into her penetrating eyes, there's no way Roxanne would have been 'Queen Of The World' over our 'Persian Princess'.

Wonderful reaction, Dan, by now I can no longer find the right words to fully describe what Angelina is able to do. This girl has a totally unique way of engaging your soul and making her shiver, even after listening to her hundreds of times, you can't resist her voice. The simplicity and naturalness with which she sings and gives us these fantastic jewels made of her free and original interpretations, of the songs she loves, she is really unreal. Her re-reading of this song, is magical and fascinating, she is growing wonderfully and we are lucky enough to see her improve more and more. These are truly 16 years overflowing with unique talent and a fantastic jazz! 💛 🧡 ❤️

Dan, welcome back! You picked a great song to react to in my opinion. Many think that this is one of her best works to date and reflects the unlimited styles and tones of her voice. A real master class performance. I do agree with you on an Amy Winehouse vibe on certain songs, but not on this one LOL. This was just a timeless voice here.

I haven't heard many of the innumerable versions that have been made of this classic, I have a slight memory of 'the voice' and some other that I can't place, but it's hard to think that any of them can be equal to this masterpiece (IMO ). By the way, stop comparing this amazing voice to any other. Amy Winehouse? Please, she wouldn't have been able to sing like that even with the help of the best arranger in the business. Her vibrato? Amy had it like so many others before her, although it's true that her style made us all fall in love, but AJ's is unique, incomparable.

You may have reacted to her performance when she was 10. My understanding is that this was a re-recording that Angelina did for Valentines day this year and then overlayed the video over top of it and published it to Instagram TV. Boris pulled it off of there and posted it on RU-vid so those of us that don't do instagram could see it.

You are probably thinking about her performance, when she was 10yo, sitting on a chair that looks like it was purchased in the store she is in for this performance. That version was beautiful but this 16yo version is new and is the best yet. I'm guessing it was recorded in the studio to get HQ sound.

This version is new. But Amy Winehouse? I find this version very true to the original, or better tradisional, since I dont’t know the original, but of course very Angelin too. To me, Angelina, also her home performance aged 10, and Chet Baker sets the standard. But there are so many great versions of this song.

Welcome back Dan. I have always enjoyed your reactions to our barefoot princess. She just turned 16 on January 10th and is now over 6 foot tall. Her voice just keeps getting better. Her family, thankfully, is still slow walking her career, waiting until she matures more before having Republic fully promote her. That said, her angels do what we can to introduce her to new people and to help boost her analytics, mostly by educating viewers. Dan you did an awesome job in the description to this video.
