Hi there! Angelina paid tribute to Pricilla Presley's hairdo during that era, for this video, and Angelina wore the leather outfit that Elvis wore for his '68 comeback show. I know because I was there for the second night of his special. It was taped at NBC Studios. I was sitting on the podium, long light brown hair, black blouse and white skirt with black polka dots. They are a result of her totally inhabiting the song she is performing; immersing herself and feeling the emotions of the song. Like her beautiful voice, it is intuitive and is natural to her being. We look for different things, the stage presence doesn't matter to me at all, acting isn't something I care for. But I'm glad you liked it. That original in studio about her grandpa passing is entirely different, imagine trying to emote that. I mean years later maybe. Plus, studio isn't always a production, it's usually like that no? Sorta barely a production. What would be interesting would be seeing your take on "million years ago". An Adele cover she did when she was 12. Absolutely notorious for taking most of us on a trip to another dimension no matter how often we see it. She's 12, it isn't a production, there are many distractions like her looking to the side for the lyrics often, even botching words like inevitable. But there is some emoting for sure, and the vocals I imagine are the real reason for the trip. It would be cool to see someone with a different analytical mind like yours do a take on that one. See if she can transport you despite what you are well trained to look for, and being warned it's a trip. It would be like a battle of the titans. One where you will see some things you generally can't get past, up against the most adorable and skilled storyteller alive, with a voice and style that no 12 year old should have. It could perhaps explain our issues with your comments, in which everyone should be kinder absolutely. The same terminology can be applied to things that have nothing to do with stage presence or acting. What we saw was more of a miscommunication on our part, that you could maybe see where we're coming from, not being trained in those ways or looking for any of that.

I get the sense that AJ isn't about all the 'show" stuff its about her voice, and and tbo that's all it needs to her about. The 'show" stuff seems to be more cerebral which I find refreshing, Having to think and feel as much as seeing. As you watch more of Angelina, you’ll see that she lives the lyrics like no one else. And as you saw and heard here, Angelina never over-sings a song even though she has a vocal toolkit that other singers can only dream about. It may be just semantics, but when you use the word “perform” with Angelina, it doesn’t fit for me. Whether she’s in an actual video like this one or sitting at home with a music track or jamming with a guitarist, you’ll see that involvement with the lyrics in her interpretation and in her body language. You evaluate performance, so we probably have different thoughts about what that means. There are all types of vocalists, including performers, but I have never thought of Angelina as a performer. She is a singer, a vocal artist.

This arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt. She is a Master Storyteller. The video is shot in the same Antique Store that she did 'My Funny Valentine' on Valentines Day. I believe it is in LA near her home. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. The song was written by Mark James. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, he is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of." Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song. The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family. Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along). Every Angelina angel wants and believes Angelina's music should be promoted. We know her family has requested Angelina be allowed as normal a childhood as possible and should finish her schooling. I think that is very wise. I like to believe her family is working with Republic Records on a promotion strategy, to fully promote her while at the same time not to overwhelm Angelina. We don't want, what has happened to so many, her to shoot up in popularity only to have her star burn out. Angelina is a rare talent. I like to believe she is a once in forever musical artist and I put my faith in her loving family to know when the time is right to allow Republic to fully promote her. Our patience will be greatly rewarded.

It's great to see someone in " your space," analysis/reaction to not just her otherworldy singing but performance delivery! As you go down this rabbit hole when she was very young, 8,10? She said in an interview she goes to another, incredibly beautiful place when she sings. It explains alot on why even in front of the bright lights at a very young age she can preform so well with no nervousness and get so deeply into her performances.I'm in for your journey!

Prior to that song release, she did another song "You are always on my Mind" just 6 days after her grandpa died in his memory. She literally broke down and started to cry at the end. It's incredibly endearing, sad and at the same time heart warming. Point being she was trying to keep it together during the million miles recording, and thus didn't emote as much as she normally would have, otherwise she would of been in tears. (at least that's my thoughts on it.)

Awesome reaction to another amazing performance by Angelina! You caught several details I missed and had some great insight. You have to watch Angelina over and over again to catch all the nuances and details she puts into her craft. She has so many more performances I hope you react to. "I'm a Fool to Want You", "Stay", "Feeling Good - Live on the Stream Gil Tibake" and are just a few. Another of Elvis version she cover of "How Great Thou Art" is awesome, but not her performing.

Absolutely what I expected. She made this her own song and she did it beautifully. I noticed Juliet sitting there she is going to be as beautiful as Angelina one day. Elvis' version is great and it always was, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own. When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 82 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched. The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammes), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers. The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister. 🙂

Just saw the new movie last night. This version was used in a very poignant part and it takes on a totally different meaning. As written it's about a romantic relationship, but in the movie it was used to drive home the point that Elvis was 'caught in a trap' with his manager...very different meaning. My only problem with it is it's too short! I'd love to had heard her version start as is and grow into a full band backing her.

First, the meaning behind Angelina telling of the story, which is how the composer, not Elvis, conceived it. Second, the use of costuming, which as an actor you should not have failed to credit the production: Elvis, the leather; Elvis, the red Swedish guitar; Priscilla, his wife, the beehive do. All fashioned by Angelina. Finally, as to the cast of characters: Angelina's two very young cousins and her sister - all intended to reflect the various ages over which AJ developed her unique style. Otherwise, you're good.
