When you look at the setting, lighting, camera work, and the costuming, this is a beautiful performance. But when you add the symbolisms in this Elvis song, plus the exquisitely beautiful voice of Angelina Jordan - I believe this is worthy of Grammy consideration.

Our little angel is all grown up. Time to drop the kids name since she is not a little angel but is Angel.

Elvis Presley and his producer Felton Jarvis cleverly covered this Mark James song in 1969, Elvis' last #1 hit in the US and #7 of his most successful songs. Felton Jarvis took the original arrangement completely and pushed the song with more speed and additional instruments (wind instruments, violin etc.) and a spectacular backing choir and of course with Elvis Presley's voice. Angelina calls it an Elvis Presley cover and since her concerts in Norway in July we know that Angelina has a very emotional connection to this song. For me both versions only have the lyrics in common. Rob Christie's musical arrangement and Angelina's voice arrangement have created something completely new. 💯 *AJ* 💯

In the beginning credits is says Mery Zamani is the Executive Producer. Mery is Angelina’s grandmother. The two youngest girls are Angelina’s uncle Michaels daughters. The older girl is Angelina’s sister, Juliette. We all need to keep grandma, Mery in our prayers because she going through serious health issues right now. Grandma Mery was no able to attend Angelina’s recent Norway festival and concerts.

Another fun fact that I noticed... Angelina's guitar was NOT a PROP as some reactors have commented in the past. She plays guitar as well as several other instruments. She could have used any guitar but she chose to pay homage to the king by using that particular model. Elvis used that guitar model in his '68 TV Comeback Special. A Hagstrom '67 Viking II Semi-Hollow Body, Transparent Wild Cherry, which recently sold at auction for $500,000 dollars. Playing piano is Rob Christie, Grammy award winner, music producer as well as Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group, her new recording label.

The weirdest thing is that she totally transform this song - but as if Elvis himself did it and sang it. Imagine Elvis singing "Suspicious Minds" with the same approach that he did "Love Me Tender"! Once I say this you can not unhear it. It is as if she climbed into the vocal sensibilities of Elvis and understood "this is how Elvis himself would have done this song with a tenderness to the lyrics".

That opening phrase, I've never heard notes so solid, full, and true. I watch reactions to this to see how it lands and it's always a full body reaction

AJ adapts the performance to pay homage but then makes it her own and so much better than the original.

Absolutely what I expected. She made this her own song and she did it beautifully. I noticed Juliet sitting there she is going to be as beautiful as Angelina one day. Elvis' version is great and it always was, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own. When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 82 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched. Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. And she got Elvis’s ‘Oh Yea’ at the end of the song. The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammys), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers. The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister. 🙂

It is the same antique store in Hollywood that she used for My Funny Valentine AJ plays guitar, keyboard/piano, violin and flute. Don’t forget she writes music and was the youngest author in Norway to publish a book. No loud band, no light show, no dancers, just two instruments to accompany the MAGIC that Angelina Jordan brings like no one else can. At 7 she was killing us, at 16 she is taking us places we have never been. What a glorious production, praise to everyone involved, so perfect for Angelina Jordan she rules the universe with her talent. Again, the great talent of Rob Christie playing the piano. The Cinemaphotography, a total MASTERPIECE, Excellent ART Cole McCarthy! Great touch, the cousins and sister get a cameo. Mery, you should be so proud, AJ's grandma produced this. (This red guitar is identical to the one Elvis played in his 1968 concert on TV.) Oh, the tears, and loss of breath, she is like no other in the universe. Here is a classic example of what this ethereal talent, Angelina Jordan, can achieve she takes a mundane song and turns it in to phenomenal classic. Angelina at 16 is the MASTER of her universe, she is top priority for both Stargate, and AJ's voice has been unique since she was 7 years old and now at 16, she controls us as an audience, leaving us hang on every word and phrase. She has written a number of songs.

I love everything about this gorgeous music video featuring Angelina Jordan's arrangement of "Suspicious Minds. Her young cousins and then sister, Juliette, in that order seem to evoke Angelina's musical evolution and growing up. At 16 yo, she is on the verge of adulthood, an album, and she will soar. I just love her voice and all it conveys. I just love her creativity and musical intelligence, not to mention the mastery of her main instrument: Her voice. If you don’t recognize the antique shop you might have missed her My Funny Valentine, exploring her instrument like a great saxophone player explores jazz. On her channel there is also her version from six years earlier, which in that perspective is equally amazing.

Pianist, Rob Christies beautiful musical arrangement and Angelina’s stunning vocal arrangement is a complete departure from the upbeat pop version Elvis created. This is a completely new song. This breath taking performance is what the original writer intended for his song to sound like. As I always do when Angelina covers a song I am listening to every word and syllable of the lyrics for the first time. There is no doubt that Angelina is an outstanding story teller. Her beautiful singing voice is hypnotizing. Angelina’s immense talent, magnetism and emotional interpretation draws us in and we become hopelessly mesmerized and consumed with emotion.

Just incredible version of this classic, I just love the way Angelina makes it her own so wonderfully clever. It is hard to imagine what her new album will be like with so many stunning tracks already out there and no doubt some new gems, I am so excited and longing for an update!! Great reaction Jay.

My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.

Yeah! She’s something special, isn’t she? Pure Velvet Perfection! This vocal arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt in collaboration with a stellar team including Rob Christie & Mery Zamani her Grandmother. She is a Master Storyteller. The video is shot in the same Antique Store that she did 'My Funny Valentine' on Valentine’s Day. I believe it is in LA near her home. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. Thus the Antique store, She grew up studying and performing these classics. Did you notice that right foot raise it''s heal to cradle the guitar a couple of times in the performance. I was waiting for her to throw in a little shake to it in homage to the King. Could that have been intentional? That is Rob Christie on piano. Sister Juliette and a couple of Uncle Michael's Babies. As you mentioned, the song was written by Mark James. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, he is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of." Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song. The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family. Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).
