Easily my favorite version of this song, and arguably my favorite Angelina recording of all.

SO POWERFUL......BEAUTIFUL........GREAT REACTION.

She said this is her break-up song, so apparently it does relate to her experience. The original version is a power, defiant, pop version. This is a restrained, emotional jazz version involving regret that even though she isn't belting, is even more powerful. You are right Lucie, this is a Masterpiece. Apparently there is a video in the works, so we will be able to see her singing this in the near future. I can't wait because seeing her singing adds so much to the performance, IMO.

It would be very difficult, if not impossible, to find another artist who can sing the same song fifty times and give you fifty different versions, every one uniquely beautiful. With this version of Bad Valentine, she takes what was already a masterpiece and, impossibly, MAKES IT EVEN BETTER!! Kudos also to Toby for providing the perfect musical accompaniment to complete the almost dreamy yet powerful atmosphere which encompasses this brilliant performance.

Hi Lucie, great reaction! Normally I prefer Angelina's live performances over the studio versions - but this performance is one of the exceptions. Aside from the fact that she sings this better than any other performance, the piano and strings are so perfectly played and balanced that they become an integral part of the delivery. This is what you get from Angelina and Toby, when the time and care is taken to polish the nascent jewel - a brilliant diamond cut. It's worthy of being the lead track on her next album.

This is a masterpiece at all levels. How do you make 3 or 4 versions of your own song---make them all feel different, one totally different and they are each at such a high level. I guess you get Angelina Jordan.

Angelina has literally shocked me, I love her voice and I am more and more in awe of her unstoppable musical evolution, I would never have expected that at her age she had already reached such a stratospheric level of vocal perfection. This is truly a beautiful song perfectly arranged for her voices (so many!), both in the first blues version and in this later jazz version, but what she creates in that melancholic and sad version is indescribable and absolutely astonishing, also for the apparent ease with which she does it, in reality the instrumental accompaniment is little more than a simple pleasant decoration, her voice alone is enough to reproduce the emotional effect of a whole orchestra. She is a truly eclectic and extraordinary artist, I understand well why Toby is enraptured by her talent, being able to collaborate with a singer like her leaves a boundless space for musical imagination, you probably can't even imagine what vocal wonders she can create. Her creativity is simply enchanting and astonishing. 💛🧡❤

As others have mentioned this was a heartfelt breakup song ! Angelina wrote when she was 16. Amagine that, her gift to the world is going to keep on giving for a very long time. As I think Angelina mentioned a year or 2 ago she had written over a hundred. Just saying fasten your seatbelts. I dare to guess how many hits she will make in her career, but I for one are looking forward to every single new song!

I knew you would love this. A little background on the song: The original pop version was actually recorded with Toby Gad back in 2022 when Angelina was 16. This was at the time that she was recording songs for what became her Old Enough EP. She also recorded 7 other songs with Toby at the time. However when an EP was released summer last year instead of an album, some songs had to remain unreleased and that included all the songs she recorded with Toby. Fast forward to May of this year, Angelina and Toby performed the song live at the Hotel Cafe in LA. It was the first time we had heard the song and assumed it was brand new. Toby announced that the song would be released “soon”. I believe that you reacted to this live version. Last month on the day of her LA concert, Bad Valentine was finally released after 2 years. Toby confirmed that it was the same vocals that Angelina recorded two years ago. A few weeks ago Toby released a video of the live performance from the LA concert. Last week this slowed down, jazzy version was released. This was probably recorded recently, maybe this past summer. You may also want to check out the original version that was finally released last month. The two versions have a totally different feel which makes them almost seem like different songs.
