Every time I hear the KORK Orchestra begin playing, I feel a surge of emotion because I know what is coming next: the most amazing rendition of Unchained Melody by the incomparable Angelina Jordan. She has a voice of an angel and a talent beyond words. Angelina looked every bit a princess on this magnificent stage with a live orchestra and audience and national TV production.! Angelina has not changed once since she was a little girl. She is still a humble, sincere, compassionate and loving soul. Even as a little girl. Girl Angelina's goal was to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize. This is her second time performing here as she did it in 2014 and it's the only time in history that a performer has been invited back twice to this most prestigious event. This song "Unchained Melody" is about an imprisoned person who longs to be on the outside with her family and friends. It is so fitting that Angelina is singing this song about the Nobel Peace prize recipient Narge Mohammadi who is currently imprisoned in Iran because she is a women's rights activist . Angelina is performing this in her hometown of Oslo, with the world famous Norwegian Orchestra Kork ! Angelina also has strong Iranian roots through her grandmother. Me ry. Pifer First, and foremost, I was a fan of the Righteous Brothers, but the cover that Bobby Hatfield did was not good. Hatfield took one of the most beautiful ballads and jazzed it up without the respect that it deserved. On the other hand, Angelina Jordan slowed the tempo down, and with her ethereal signature storytelling voice she paid honor to this timeless serenade making the finest rendition of Unchained Melody I have ever experienced in all my 76 years.

Happy New Year to you Darth. In most cases I would totally agree with your choice for how Angelina should be introduced but not for this performance. This performance was ALL about Narges Mohammadi and NOT Angelina. Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian. We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change. In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time". "Unchained Melody" comes from the film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.
