Angelina Jordan -Unchained Melody - Nobel Peace Prize - Narges Mohammadi tribute, NRK1 Norway

To the unaware there was a lot of drama attached to Angelina's performance. She was singing for the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize award and her family (2 twin children and her husband). Narges Mohammadi was imprisoned by Iranian authorities for speaking out about the rights of women in Iran and the oppression of women in general. She has been in prison for years and the hope is that she will be set free to reunite with her family who are now living in France. Over the years this song has become a 'romantic' song but it is actually a story of a love denied because of governmental issues and families, with love in their hearts, must live a life of uncertainty of what the future will be. In this troubled world, perhaps Iranian officials can find it within themselves to end the imprisonment of Narges Mohammadi and say 'enough is enough'. The world will be watching.

Not even Bobby Hadfield's 'Gold Standard' rendition of this song reaches the innermost part of my being as deeply as Angelina achieves here. It's a fitting tribute to Narges Mohammadi, the recipient of this year's Nobel Peace Prize. She is languishing in an Iranian prison for simply trying to improve women's rights and I hop Angelina's performance brings more people to be aware of this very brave woman.

This is Angelina's most reverent performance of Unchained Melody, ( it reminds me of Her performance of Natural Woman) a song originally about someone imprisoned, longing for their love ones. The verse" I'll be home wait for me", has to have an emotional impact on Narges' children, present at the ceremony. This is a special honor for Angelina and her Iranian grandma Mery. Narges is currently serving 31 years and had received 154 lashes for her stand. She is currently on a hunger strike.

John Gary vs Angelina Jordan Unchained Melody**** One of the most memorable experiences of my life was seeing John Gary perform live in Seattle, WA, when I was 20 years old. He had such a powerful and beautiful voice that filled the whole auditorium. During the break, he sat down on the edge of the stage and played his guitar, singing Unchained Melody with so much emotion and passion. It was a sublime moment that I shared with my wife, and I felt like we were the only ones in the room. At that time, I thought to myself; how could anyone top that performance, but 56 years later a 17-year-old Angelina Jordan just did. Angelina Jordan's performance at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Norway in 2023 blew me away. She sang with such passion and emotion that I felt every word in my soul.
