A young PGA Tour professional, 30 year old Grayson Murray, who just won for the first time on tour this year took his own life yesterday morning after withdrawing from this week’s tournament, the Charles Schwab Cup. His family and fiancé are distraught, the players are distraught and the scores today showed that nobody really wanted to be there. The PGA Tour is like a big family and who could concentrate on a day like this. They also had a 3 minute, 4 helicopter moment of silence fly over for Memorial Day, it was brutally poignant. Avicii was also very young when he committed suicide, and when you listen to his original uptempo version of this song, you realize just what an empathetic genius Jordan really is.
She applies intense thoughtfulness whenever she creates a tribute for an artist who has passed away and that is clearly evident here. Another great one was her tribute to Aretha Franklin when she veered away from the bombastic vocals that Aretha was famous for, and which all other tribute artists did for her memory. Angelina's rendition of Aretha's 'A Natural Woman' will go down as the ultimate classic tribute to 'The Queen Of Soul, for it is the most emotion laden rendition I have ever heard.
Nice reaction Zak! In an interview with Alan Papier, Ivan Mendez, the guitarist in this video, said that he did not know how this video got out or why he was blocked out by the strange color scheme. As you continue to watch more Angelina videos, you will notice that Ivan will be in a number of them. She also worked with another guitarist named Egil Clausen, but they did their videos when she was still living in Norway.
It's funny some have said she's to young to sing with such emotion as she hasn't learned ved lol ng enough but I beg to differ.She lost 2 grandpa's and a good friend and had a dad that was in part at least absent from her life for the most part so I believe she did and does know about lost love on a personal level and she is also an empathetic that feels other emotion very much which influences her music and her personal life which is why I love her as a person and an artist

You hit the nail on the head with the barefoot princess. When she sings you believe every word shes saying it’s something very special. I’m 56 years old, a veteran of foreign war, 11 years law-enforcement, and she has brought tears to my eyes many times. I cannot say enough about the barefoot princess, absolutely an angel sent from heaven. Not a day goes by that I do not listen to her, she just takes me away from everything and makes my day so much better.
No one seems to know why Ivan Mendez is blocked from view by broken glass. My theory is her broken heart & shattered feelings. Good for you Zack, you got the black outfit & the flowers. She always records in black when she sings after someone's passing. She also sometimes ends the video with 10 seconds of fade to black. She's not just a singing artist, she's an everything artist!
I heard that it was some kind of artistic decision by visual artist Grandma Mery. He may not have been dressed in black because he found out about the occasion too late. Or Mery wanted to focus more on Angelina without meaning any harm.
For me, this is Angelina at her full power. She changes the emphasis of this song completely, and we are amazed that Avicii’s lyrics we thought celebrated life are actually a perfect memorial tribute to Angelina’s friend. Her ability to re-interpret and deliver lyrics is absolutely staggering. And I’ve felt for many years that acoustic Angelina is Angelina at her most devastating. What a beautiful way to remember and honor her friend.
There is another clip of her singing that tribute with clips of avici and clips of Angelina with Avici. If you can find that one I think you would like that as well. I actually preferred that one.
I’ve never seen the broken glass thing before or since. I think this was Angelina’s way of making her tribute special and different from all the other videos. You could hear how much she was feeling the loss. She did another tribute video after Lisa Marie Presley died whom she knew personally also that you should check out.

She has done that in other tributes as well for deceased artists (ie: Aretha Franklin, Freddie Mercury). She is very respectful and then takes this song and creates her own interpretation for the occasion that it deserves. The song seems a cry for help from Avivii. Just read the lyrics carefully. With the original the id hidden by all the upbeat music and rhythm. Angelina slows it down adds melancholy and it almost becomes a farewell note ❤

It is extraordinary how she discovered this song within the original, so perfect for the circumstances after Avicii died and so beautifully sung... one of hers I find most emotional... Glad to you noticed the black she always wears in tribute songs, many reactors seem to miss that... and subtle touches such as the fade to black in the Aretha Franklin tribute (also beautifully done)
I suspect that she blocked out the guitarist because this was a tribute to her friend and not his friend. I think it appears more personal this way. Her version of this song really drips with sadness.

Avicii’s is an anthem for iconoclasts - those who “march to the beat of a different drummer.” Angelina totally transformed this song into a lament for her “dear friend” Avicii. That you recognized her wearing black shows your keen observation. Angelina often wears black during tributes that she sings as a sign of respect to the original performer. 🎶❤️🩹👣

The video is posted to her grandmothers RU-vid channel. Not sure if she had anything to do with its creation. She has directed some of her videos and she is an artist. So it’s unclear whether grandma made it or just appreciated the artistic video
Avicis suicide hit Angelina hard. Angelina has experienced alot of loss for someone so young. The shattered image fit the song, its purpose as a memorial. It also stopped the exposure of her face and grief as she sang it.
That was Ivan Mendez on guitar. I think it might have been made when he was with her then after he left they blurred him out for copy rights reason ? Maybe if he was on camera they would have to send him a royality check ?
Why is Angelina somewhat obscured in the video?... Someone said that Mery, Angelina's grandmother, a visual artist, created the visuals for this video. I suspect that Angelina was slightly obscured in this particular video to represent the thin veil between life and death, between the living and the dead, between earth and heaven. The things you see with clarity on one side are not the things you see clearly on the other side to which you pass. There is a separation between the two, but they co-exist. The thin veil between life and death, earth and heaven is contemplated in Christian religions and, I believe, in other religions too. That's my interpretation, and I'm sticking to it.
