Angels: A talk with Father Bede Griffiths 

This wonderful dialogue between Dom Bede Griffiths and Rupert Sheldrake was arranged by me. I met Rupert by accident early September 1992 in California. His greatest wish was to talk in public with Bede Griffiths. I was with Dom Bede on his last world-tour in the USA and Europe. Because of my close relation with the Benedictine abbot Dr. Odilo Lechner of St. Boniface in Munich, I could make that event on 29th September 1992 possible. Due to our advertising activities more than 800 people attended that unforgettable Tuesday evening in Munich. The name "Munich" is derived from "monk". Dear Sir, last year I had an Intuition, with all my knowledge I accumulated over the yera, by You and others, sprituell leaders and so aon ( I am holding a Ph.D. in Molecular- and cell biology, and you inspired me from the veraly 90ties on). Since I have been very young I loved arch angels very much! all the time at my wall at my apartments! Last Year I realized that the angels painted in the Era of the rennaince, ARE ANDROGGYNIC! Fascinating! Some of this reminds me of Anthroposophy, which takes beliefs in other intelligences very seriously: genii loci, elemental spirits of living Nature, living Intelligences of stars & planets, angels etc. Also, C S Lewis wrote about celestial Intelligences, and the fall & redemption of Nature through God, after human salvation & transformation. What an interesting discussion!

19:26 It took me some time to understand what he said here, maybe someone else also would benefit: he say that is better to describe how Nature works as wholearchical, instead of hierarchical. “Whole”archy Term: As opposed to a “hierarchy”, a “wholearchy” integrates all pieces of its structure into an organized system. All components are equally needed and rely on each other to provide a healthy ecosystem. No part is seen to be better than another.

This is so fascinating, especially to hear this from a scientist. I have heard this idea before in my tradition of Christianity (Eastern Orthodoxy) and am very comfortable with the fact that angels/intelligences act through celestial bodies like the sun, stars, and planets. I would take it a step further to say that there are angelic powers that are the driving/animating force behind governments, ideology, political will/parties, rebellion, and even rulers. I'm not sure how to get scientific about all that, though.

It must have been fate, that Roland Ropers, accidently met Rupert Sheldrake, along the way, in Roland's journey through life. It must be amazing to stumble upon such an encounter. I wish all the best to everyone out there who seems to be searching for some kind of answer to an unasked question. What is the question. Who am I? What is the answer? The Truth? Is the answer to the question 'Who am I?' The Truth? Is our inner self the Truth. Maybe. You shouldn't have to search too far to find the Truth.

Interesting, towards the end, that Fr. Bede Griffiths confirms the view that Jesus' resurrected glorified body is tantamount to what in Tibet is called rainbow body.

This was very useful as it made clear to me where Christian and other hierarchically envisaged religions go wrong. Just because there is a source or a "Center" if you will of "creation" does NOT in any way imply a hierarchy. It implies difference and interdependence. (A wheel has a center, without which it cannot function, but neither can it function without its spokes nor hub. Interdependence is at its very nature.) The Heart of the body is not hierarchically the Emperor even though its elimination would caused death. Why? Because the Heart depends utterly on its structures of cells and upon the Lungs, the blood, the Kidneys and so forth. In the same way, the galaxies may be larger and more complex, but without stars there are no galaxies. These are different but utterly inter-dependent Beings. The Big Civilizations wanted to pose "god" as at a pinnacle because they were about the business of breaking down local loyalties to clan, family and chieftains and replacing these with a centralized authority called a king or pharoah or emperor, who was at a pinnacle of a hierarchically organized system. The "angels" in shamanic traditions are the guardians of various energetic configurations. So, for instance, the Clouds are the living breath of the Earth, but they have a guardian spirit that appears somewhat human like and who helps protect and communicate with and for the Clouds. Angels (or spirits or entities or intelligences or what have you) are NOT superior to humans because they have no bodies. They are limited because they have no bodies and cannot easily intervene in the world of matter. We are likewise limited by our lack of conscious awareness of the energetic living nature of the Universe and all its part. So "angels" and humans are interconnected because each has something the other needs to manifest or be aware of the True Nature of Creation. NOT NOT NOT A HIERARCHICAL RELATIONSHIP. An interdependent one. A connected one. Nobody is "In Charge," including the Source which can only create not control-nor does it "want to" by its nature.

Distracting but there is a measure of Truth in his words that only The Almighty God can discern.

About time science starts to see the connections! If I may humbly suggest looking into Rudolf Steiner's work for a more in depth discussion. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I don't know what else to call them 🌿😊 When I was 4, I fell from a third floor balcony. Before I crashed into the hood of the car below, I was 'caught' by wingless flying beings with light where their faces would have been. It might sound scary, but they were joyful and familiar - one of them, especially. For a few years afterwards, an array of STEs (spiritually transformative experiences) occurred in my life. I was too young to realize their significance - or how unusual they were. (Seeing light beings and episodes of precognition chief among them.) In a way, it's too bad that the word 'angel' is associated with religion, just because people can occlude possibilities when the very subject is mentioned. I've no idea where they come from or exactly how they're 'powered', but I'm sure we all have them and that they're a bit like spokes from a giant hub of Divine Love. Please talk to your angels: do it with disbelief, but with sincerity. Amazing things can happen. Mighty blessings to all. 💫

The book of Enoch is a good start for knowledge on the fallen angels and the most important thing to note is that they were people walking the earth in body's just as anyone else. Some fallen beings are in embodiment and some are in the emotional mental and identity octaves. If you want to demystify it and get a concrete example of fallen beings look no further than the dictators throughout history, Hitler for example, there are of course those behind the scenes that are unknown to the public. Progressive revelation in the next age will begin to show us not only their existence but their psychology.

Angels=Archons. The details of the hierarchy of the system are being teased out of an increasing number of ancient texts from around the world. I sense an awakening, a time for change, positive in the end but could be a rough road ahead physically and spiritually for many.

How to keep memory in pure energy? I have observed how life is created in the fusion of energy and water, thanks to Sheldrake himself. But I see how a trinity of life is in conflict with monotheism. Unless that we remember how water transferred into the concept of the Holly Spirit.

Angels are Angles of light photons from the Sun (Son) Santos Bonacci talks about this in his lectures, very interesting whatever your belief.

Once again I'm surprised that Rudolph Steiner's input to all this stuff has not been acknowledged. Why is this? He goes beyond what Father Bede has to say in multiple lectures and books. OK so it's tough going wading through it all. I would be most interested to hear the Bede/Sheldrake view and evaluation of his work. Or have you not studied his lectures and books in any kind of detail?

good stuff. but the "fall of man" argument for all the ills in the world does not fully address the reality of a predatory aspect of life that seems as built into nature as naturally as love is. I want to hear or read a spiritual leader address the reality of the predatory instinct.....

Guess what? The whole of existence is working on a divine plan called 'Man'. That is why, in the spirit and in nature, from largest to smallest, everything is a Man, more or less unfolded. The entire spiritual Heaven appears as a Man, and each society of angels appears as a Man, and each angel appears as a Man. Heavenly animals and plants are embodiments of wisdom and love, the expressions of the essence of Man. The entire spiritual Hell, appears as a Man-ster, a monster or devil (stirred up), and each society of devils appears as a monster, and each devil appears as a monster. Hellish animals and plants are embodiments of falsity and hate, the antithesis of Man. And since the natural world corresponds to all this that is happening in the spirit world, nature works for Man, and nature works against Man, which is what is called angels on one shoulder, devils on the other.

In Gnostic terms, these angels are called "aeons." And in Jungian terms the aeons that dwell in our psyches are called "archeypes."

Fr. Bede describes the Holy Spirit as the uncreated energy of God, and that this is the ancient teaching of the Church. This is actually a misunderstanding. All of the persons of the Trinity have an essence and energy. Both are uncreated, and both are divine. The essence of the godhead is One, and is unapproachable, ineffable. The energies of God are the ways in which God interacts with creation through the persons of the Trinity, and it is able to be manifest and seen, but is still uncreated and is indeed God Himself, in Trinity. St. Gregory Palamas writes about this at length.

Three decades of listening to Rupert and reading his books has not yet cured me of my being compelled to poke a stick into the hornets nest. So there is strong evidence of men having gone into a deep state of meditation...disappeared...leaving nothing but fingernails and hair? I take it that if I were to ask if I might see some of this strong evidence, I will be presented with a pile of of hair and fingernails? or, quite possibly, some empty shoes? I have had many experiences of what might be interpreted as angels, visions, voices, precognitive dreams, that sort of thing, and if these experiences have taught me anything at all, it is not to invest my trust in them, but to keep both feet on the ground and try not to loose my head in the clouds.

To bad the West gave up on God.

Hey, a comedy sketch about angels. Oh, wait, that's a real beard and these guys are seriously talking about "angels."

I have all the proof I need that angels are VERY REAL. When my dad was passing away, I was there for the entire last few weeks of his life taking care of him 😢 He was deaf 🧏 since birth. I watched his eyes, looking up at the ceiling, looking around the room from left to right, back and forth. I asked him what he saw. He signed, "Looks like little children, about 3 or 4 years old." I asked him if he saw more than one? He signed, "Yes". I asked him, how many do you see? He signed, "MANY" 😳 He then signed to me that there was one, a little boy with curly hair and chubby cheeks standing right beside his bed! I was literally standing next to the little boy he saw! 😱 My dad was a good man. He was a God fearing Christian man his entire life. I don't see any reason he would start telling lies on his deathbed 😔 I know he saw what he said he saw. One of his home nurses during a visit , a sweet little older Hispanic woman asked me if he's been "seeing anything lately". I told her what he told me. She said, "Awe, yes. It's getting close to his time, they're here for him." That whole experience has left me changed forever. It's comforting to know that when it's time for us to go home, we don't have to make the journey alone. 🙏😇
