Great video! I love seeing the human element that is ever present but hardly ever seen. I’m starting my garden railroad this summer and Rc control w/battery power will rule. I want to spend my time playing Not cleaning track.

Thanks. I agree 100% with battery/RC. I have been using Lipo batteries in RC airplane for 20 years now, and if you read and follow all instructions they are safe to fit in the engines tank area and removed to charge. No battery cars needed.

Spring has definitely come to AC! Are you using RC for all the locos?

Just to publicly answer the question. Yes. Always nice to chat with you Chris. You have to come over some time to see it.

I noticed you using a multi channel RC transmitter! What is your wireless setup? What receiver and decoder do you use? Great video BTW

Thanks Jim, The transmitter is an old Optic 6 with a Spektrum DM8 DSM2 module using Orange R610 receivers. I fly electric airplanes, and I don't trust it to planes anymore. I Use 5 amp ESC for throttle with a servo to flick a DPDT switch for reverse. Sound by Myloco Sound.

@@Captain-Scott nice! thanks for the details. I've been looking to do something very similar to this for my own Aristocraft Pacifics. Which 5amp ESC did you end up using and was this with the same brushed motor the loco had?

When I converted most of my airplanes to brushless, I had those extra and used them. Some GWS and one Jeti. But you could use any brushed ESC. The stock motors in the engines I use draw a couple of amps when running, so 5 amps works ok for me. Check yours for amps drawn. Ali Express has a lot of them. Most are bidirectional/reversing for RC cars. Some not. I can't use the bi because the throttle stick would be forward and reverse, I still fly, and its bad when I learn something different on the stick controls. I just bought from them some channel controlled relays so I can get rid of the servo/switch reversers I made. They should be here in a week or so.
