I did the climb several years ago. Believe it or not, there was an older couple - he was 81 and she was 73 - at the summit. They were there for their anniversary and they shared with the group while at the summit that every year for their anniversary they would travel to a destination with some of the tallest high rise buildings in the world. He had been a pilot so they traveled widely. Each anniversary they would go to the roof tops of the buildings and dance. Obviously there was no music on the top of Angel's Landing, so me and another guy (complete stranger) decided we would sing 'Let Me Call You Sweetheart' so the couple could embrace for one more sky-high dance. We didn't know all the words, but we did the best we could and the older couple held one another tightly and danced away. It was really one of those moments that make you feel so human, and so alive.
Omg I am so glad you made it through safely it's not always about knowing your limits because the mountains are always moving and they don't care about your limits just be safe out there
Equally beautiful and frightening at the same time. Thank you Josh for doing the leg work and braving the terrain for us. I’m with Pops and would have stopped at Scouts. But thanks to your video we all were able to enjoy the views. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your adventurous hike with us. At 74 years, I totally enjoyed the amazing views without any of the risk. Thank you so much for such amazing, exciting views.
I was raised in a nearby town, St. George, and now live in Hurricane. I have spent my how life exploring and enjoying Zions. However, I've never gone past Scouts Landing due to my fear of heights. Thank you for taking me to the top as I've always wanted to go! It is breathtakingly beautiful! I feel like I finally got to hike it through you!
I needed a trip to get away from the city and we will be leaving Utah in a few hours. Zion is so majestic and beautiful and it just saddens me that I'm leaving this afternoon. Anyway, I'm staying in La Verkin and I loved the scenic drive. See you next time, Utah!
I did this hike a few years ago. I stopped at the overlook but my daughter continued on to the chains. I remember those switchbacks well. Thanks for sharing.
I did Angels Landing the first day it opened back up during COVID . Thank you for the 360 camera because it is very hard to explain to my family just how scary it really is. It is not for the faint of heart.
Many props to pops for going on a portion of the hike. That is some devotion. Just looking at the video scared me. Not for the faint of heart. Great video as always
Kudos to you for being able to do this! I would absolutely love to, but my fear of heights would not let me, I freak out just watching this video, I'd definitely stop where your Dad did and soak in the spectacular views from there. Beautiful video Josh!
I did this hike back in 2016, in August. We went to Zion without knowing anything about it, and we had only one day to spend there. We chose Angels Landing based on the lenght, because the promised 4-5 hours was a good fit in our time schedule. We started 6 of us, but 4 of us stopped at the lookout. Me and my buddy went on the top. It was one of the best decision that I ever made in my life. For me Angel's Landing deff triumphed Horseshoe, grand canyon or any other beautiful hike.
My experience was similar. Wasn't really familiar with Zion at all. Thus I didn't come prepared to do the narrows. I did do Angels landing. It was scary going up, because I was a little worried about getting back down those narrow slippery paths, but it was actually a breeze coming down as it turned out.. I think it only took 45 min to descend. That was back in 2007 ish. I considered turning around at the Lookout, but glad I pushed on. It was a highlight of my trip.
So glad to see this as I would never have hiked it, even in my youth! I don't do well with heights. I enjoyed (somewhat, lol) watching you hike it, as I knew you made it down ok or the video would not be up...
I'm not afraid of heights *normally* however, that spine section, how narrow it is, just watching you do it made me burst into spontaneous sweat. Thank YOU for doing it for me, since I am sure now this is one trail I do not think I can complete.
It's actually not that bad. The spine is wide enough for 1 person to go through even without holding the chains. The chain lengths are fixed, people stop from point to point to let people pass.
I’ve been to Zion twice. Going back in July. This further solidifies me NOT doing this hike 😂 This is the BEST video of the hike though. Kudos to you for this great footage and for braving this hike 👏🏾 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Hi Josh Lots of people have done Angels Landing videos but yours was hands down the best I have seen. I always like your videos always informative. Thanks
Did the Angels landing trail on Saturday. Absolutely incredible! Good callout that the 360 videos make it seem scarier than it actually is. The view at the end was unbelievable. Thanks for walking us through it again!
I have done this trail multiple times, including running it first thing in the morning. One thing about the West if you are not from here: just because there are signs and chains does not mean it is not genuinely dangerous. Maintain situational awareness, and you should be fine. This is an excellent video!
There's a reason this looks so scary - because it is. I did in back in the mid 90's and you didn't have to have a permit. I'm going in June and now you need a permit which is a bummer, but the National parks have just gotten so crowded they have to do this. EDIT: Went back last week and won the lottery! It was just as scary the 2nd time. The part you cover with the selfie stick @ the 8:08 mark is definitely the most terrifying. I didn't think the vertical section was as bad. There isn't anything too technical about the trail, but it is very mentally challenging.
I've seen many videos of this amazing location, but this one is easily the best one.. that really provides helpful tips and epic videography.. the 360 camera was a huge plus to show never before captured (so well) angles of the last portions of the climb.
Thankful to say I had the opportunity to complete this trail last summer. It is dangerous forsure, but with common sense and solid physical health it is completely safe. Not for those with a fear of heights or out of shape. Zion park instituted a permit system this year for hikers on this trail. Trail is not as scary as wide angle cameras on RU-vid make it seem.
It's smart to stop when it's individually, too challenging.👏 WOW, this is definitely not for the faint of heart. I'm happy you accomplished your goal, for the second time. I know that it's not for me. a great job🤗👏
Greyhound - love the 360° stuff. The permits will really make this a better experience and less dangerous hike. Magellan - no no no no and no. I’ll hang out with Pops. Just no. Great video
I still remember my husband, me, 8years old son and 3 years old daughter went there in 2019. Yes, it was so crowded, specially in the last mile that need grab the chain. We gave up since it was so dangerous and crowded. Hope we can go back and do it again! Nice view! Really worthy!!!
I do not regret that I did not go all the way up and stopped at the overlook point. It was the best decision that you climbed in Februry, for we were there in late September and the last climb were still congested, way too many die-hard enthusiastists. Thanks for your clip, it's awesome!
My sister and I did this hike in the middle 1990s. It was pretty different. There was almost no one else int he park and we parked at the base of the cliff. The trail was longer and no pavement that i recall and the chains were on he other side. Neither of us normally has a fear of heights, but one of us froze up and the way up and the other on the way down. What broke me out of my panic attack was a Dad and his 12 year old son who just sort of skipped around us as I clung to the chain for dear life unable to move for a few minutes. I cannot imagine how you would do this holding a camera the whole way. Not a chance I would do that. Next go do the Subway trail top down. It is a more exciting trail, not as scary but harder.
Oh man we were in the park in April and I was feeling it in my stomach for folks just watching them from the shuttle! My daughter asked what all those colors were on the top and I said “People” she screamed and said, “wow they are crazy”haha. You captured it beautifully 👏👏👏👏
Absolutely stunning trail. The beauty of Zion National Park is mind boggling. I would never walk this trail as I'm afraid of heights. Thank you so much Josh for uploading this amazing video!
I have hiked up to Scout’s lookout 3 times in my life. I couldn’t even begin the final 0.5 mile to Angel’s Landing. Thanks for the video. At least I can see I was right in not going on.
WoW! Kudos for undertaking that hike! And big Kudos for Pops making it that far! I’d have laid down on my stomach and screamed for rescue LOL! (Native Utahn here. We don’t do that hike. Kidding.)
Been there Las week Sunday, stopped at Scout since we didn’t have a permit. Would be exciting but view around the top was just perfect , did a lot of pics as we go up then down again. Try it you folks and wear trail or hike shoes for a good grip.
Great video. I did this hike all the way to the top with my three sons in Oct 2021 and again in March 2022. It was fantastic. Definitely was a bucket list must do. The hike looks much more scary than it was. The chains helped provide a sense of security. The view from the very top is breath taking.
Thanks for the video! I did watch your videos before I planned my trip to Utah and they were very helpful. We hiked till Scouts lookout and views were amazing. We didn’t do the last part of the hike as it was too steep and felt v dangerous. We followed our inner instincts but we did enjoy the beautiful Zion! Can’t wait to go back!
Welcome to Utah. I live here!! I hiked Angel's Landing many years ago. We also did the West Rim trail on another trip. I highly recommend it to you and Pops. It's a one way hike where we paid somebody to pick us up at the campground and drive us all the way to the start of the trail (1 hr drive). It was such a stunning hike and you get views that you would never get normally in Zion. Thanks for giving Utah a nod. We have so many amazing trails, parks here. (FYI: Bryce is a favorite.. in the winter. They have an annual Pres Weekend family festival. Come back). Cheers
Thank you for taking me there. Had heard of Angel's Landing but never thought to look it up. Definitely not going there anytime soon. Beautiful to see from here.
I'm glad you did such a superb job photographing the ascent past Scout's Lookout because I'm sure the heck not ever going to hike it that far, but I'm actually relieved you didn't film the descent. The last thing you needed to be doing coming *down* that insane trail was compromising your balance by waving a selfie stick around.😱
I was working at that lodge you parked at in the video at the time you were there lol. I had done angel’s landing in January before the permit was required. Beautiful views.
Angel's landing has been on my bucket list for a few years now. I would imagine it's scarier going down than going up. Great job on the video with the 3D camera. ~Lucy
I have a fear of heights but had no problem doing this hike at 59 years old; however, my wife turned around after the first 5 minutes. I was surprised at how few hikers were going up. I wore bike gloves and they worked GREAT. My Suunto watch had trouble triangulating in the canyon and my end graph was way off for mileage and elevation. Also, we both really enjoyed the Observation Point hike from the East Mesa Trail. Thanks!
Did this hike with my dad and my brother when I was 11. On our way up the switchbacks we passed a squeaky clean suburban family with Mitt Romney vibes, so clean they looked like they were coming straight from church. The dad was one of those guys in a polo shirt with a sweater tied around his neck. He stopped and pointed at us and said to his kids "see, they're out of breath and sweaty, that's how you can tell they're out of shape." I've never had such an out of pocket experience.
Thanks for a great video! My friend & I were there last month. Great hike to Scout's Lookout. We didn't win any tickets to hike to Angel's Landing -- but once we were there and saw how narrow the trail was and the steep drop offs -- we were definitely OK with not having won any in the new lottery system!! Beautiful National Park!!
This is so beautiful! I really want to hike all the way to the summit, but the fact that I’m getting a fear of heights just by watching this video suggests to me otherwise.. 😂
Did it December 19 of 21 and again March 6 of 22 would do it weekly if I lived in that area coming from Ohio it’s a bit of an ordeal best hike most gratifying hike I’ve ever done.John Ternes
Appreciate this so much! Just hiked it last Thursday and pictures just did not fully capture the experience. So enjoyed hiking along virtually with you.
glad you made this video. Recently went to zion with my grandfather and he said that he wouldn't be able to do angel's landing and i wanted to see what it looked like at the top.
I live in Utah and have done it a bunch of time. The last time was in the winter on day much like the one you show. It was before the permits and even in January there were were TONS of people climbing all over each other and that made it super scary. Not that I felt I was going to fall, but that I was going to see some random 12 year old fall (worse!). So I'm super glad they now limit the lemmings with a permit. Wait your turn and be thankful for it. Maybe I'll go back now because it is an incredible trail!
The deer in Zion are some of the chillest I've ever seen. They are so relaxed and calm around humans. I was there last week and a deer let me walk right up to it to take a picture. As I was walking up my phone even went off and it wasn't fazed at all. I literally got 5 feet away, there was just a bush it was eating from between us. The deer were also just a tall bush away from the trail. The people walking on the trail were also like 5 feet away from it and they didn't care at all. Not a single other hiker even noticed the deer. Couldn't believe how chill they were. Zion is the most visited park in the country so I guess it makes sense. Especially when the humans there are never trying to kill them. I went to the Grand Canyon after and the deer there were way more skiddish. They ran away shortly after seeing people. I'm definitely going to go back to do this hike! I had to get out of the freaking city so I just packed up and took my cat to Zion last weekend... unfortunately I couldn't take my cat on any hikes there except one super short easy one. I'll have to go there again without the cat and do this hike and the Narrows for sure.
I've done Angels Landing twice too. It's a great hike and the views are spectacular. It can be dangerous but take it slow and you should be fine. Don't do anything stupid.
