Listening in 2022... I just watched love & Basketball in my car after my Grandma took her last breath this morning .. My dog loved to visit Grandma everyday ... Grandma loved that Chihuahua (Cheeka) .. My mom took Cheeka in to see grandma one last time ....and Cheeka cried so hard just like all of us ...😔😔 Then watched the movie in my car and this song hit me hard hearing it. Rip to my Grandma she lived 91 yeas a very full filled life with many children grand children great grand children and great great grand children...
Especially when it plays in Love & Basketball with Monica and Quincy feeling sad about being separated from each other, you could really feel their pain in that scene while this played.

The song written by Mick Hucknall of Simply Red was originally written when he was 17 in the late 70's and is about breaking free from what he knows and venturing out on his own. It was originally recorded by his first band (a punk band) called the Frantic Elevators. He added to chorus and put it on Simply Red's first album Picture Book in 1985. If you don't know Simply Red I'd highly recommend you look them up. The perfect mix of Soul, Jazz, Funk, and Pop. This version by Angie Stone is very good. The Isley Brothers also did a version
