Angle Grinder Restoration | HITACHI Angle Grinder 

I had a lot of old pipes and rebar to cut up and from what I read ru-vid.comUgkxPDBfLu68o58Aw85O_J-zIFfjJARBhp-3 this would be the tool for the job. Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.

Bravo man. I still have my Hitachi grinder....and air compressor, and nail guns. some of the best tools ever made. Home Depot used to carry a lot of Hitachi. Until crap like Rigid showed up. They still sell Bostitch which as always been crap and wrist breaking heavy!! great vid and your work is superb!!!

These restoration videos are great for people who want to learn about electric tools in general. So before they're fun to watch, they're a very great source of disassembly of various tools.

For some reason that orange peel paintjob in that grinder isn't actually bad. Ironically it gave the tool a kind of character.

I will try this with my new Hitachi grinder. It stopped working 5 minutes after I first used it. I'll take one of your rebuilt old tools, over a new cheaply made tool, any day!!!

Hey gear show, I love your superb restorations. One question, what do you do with the tools once you restore them? I recall that you restored several circular saws, and quite a few angle grinders.

Nicely done. I always clean the groves between the commutator segments with a fine toothed hacksaw blade that has been ground narrower (no waves in tooth pattern). Any idea of the Brand? Seems like low Amp model.

Slight critique: when soldering stuff like this (anything above 110 mains) you want to have positive contact between metals, IE, you clean both sides of solder and then make sure they contact before applying solder. Either by wrapping on turn or passing through the tab's eye (if it has one). Solder isn't a good conductor in the sense that when it heats up, it will eventually break off.

Protip: Especially on this model, if you find that the gears are excessively worn, you have two options before having to buy new gears. Either shim the small gear (we're talking super thin stock) or shim the big gear (or both). As teeth wear, the distance causes slack, and that slack wears gears even more, so if you reduce it, you get more out of it. This was a feature of old, old angle grinders that can no longer be done with modern ones (lack of the nut, no nut = unsafe to shim it because the press fit isn't enough on the little gear).

Just for what it's worth. People seem to like to watch these restoration videos because they are relaxing. This was... too fast. Also, *whisper* we really like watching the sandblasting. :D
