The idea was to see how this 7" FPV quadcopter would fly when all the motors are mounted with a forward 25 degree tilt angle. BUT because I didn't take into account the arm geometry of this particular frame (Source One V1 7"), as well as the extra wire length needed, the motors ended up being angle inward (front) and outward (rear). That's pretty weird, and not at all ideal. However, I wanted to see if it could still fly like this and how it would handle. I was surprised. If nothing else, this is a testament to how good/resilient/flexible modern flight controllers are!
The 3D print files for this angled motor mount are not available yet because I want to do a bit more redesigning so that they are more useful right away.

Usually people tilt the camera instead, the motor-tilt hardware ends up being a weak point if you use it in a high speed application like this. On the other hand, It is great to add dihedral to a camera drone, it adds a mechanical stability. I do like what you've done here. As I watch the video I want you to fly it fast and constant, like a plane, instead of stopping when you get up to speed. It feels like you are fighting the nature of the aircraft. I have often wanted to make something similar, I want to use an H style frame, and tube arms. I want an inboard servo for tilting the motor arms, all together. I've seen them for sale (years ago), and they didn't take off. I think the servo/tilt mechanism parts were too fragile, but I never met anyone in person that had one.

Nice video. I just had an idea: autoleveling camera. what if we put a camera on servo, so that when quad moves on a pitch, camera moves also and support consistent level. As you know, speed of quad depends on pitch. So at any speed of quad, camera angle stays the same, lets say 15°. That's easy to do, so Adam, can you try that?

Excellent idea! I've been interested in exploring the Medlin Drone Head Tracking Tilt system that uses that idea.

@@Todd_Gerhardt Yep that's pretty much the concept behind a camera on a gimbal!

This how quads where back in 2013 2014, before WE find out that WE could actualy give an angle to the camera.

Yes it's definitely not a new concept. BUT I couldn't find the information I needed for a design I want to try, so I'm bringing it back! 😁
