Great find! My grandfather lived in Botwood near the paper sheds and was there in the fire of ‘61 that destroyed the A.N.D. setup there.

I have great respect for these hard working men. Many of us would be broke up if we had to work like that today. Rest In Peace hard working men. They make me proud to call myself a Newfoundlander.

7:58-8:20 is my grandfather Arthur Whalen handing out pay cheques at his logging camp. He was a logging contractor during these times in the Rattling Brook area I believe. I have a copy of this video and this is the only video footage I have ever seen of him as he had passed away when I was only 11months old. Many of my relatives have worked for the mill and the port of Botwood over the years . A large piece of history gone.

That chainsaw with the huge bar nose is a real widow maker.
