We did Anguilla for 5 days back in 2017. Absolutely beautiful beaches, nicest people, and best vibe of anywhere we've been. Felt utterly safe, kind of place people don't lock their doors, and strangers wave to you. We are poors, so we did a VRBO on the east end for a reasonable price and packed lunches for the beach days. Was more affordable than you might think doing it that way. Angiilla doesn't have an airport that can take regional jets. I'm guessing the longest flights they get are from San Juan in Puerto Rico. They don't have a yacht harbor either, just the ferry terminal at Blowing Point. This really reduces the number of travelers that make it to the island, and totally changes its character from party town Saint Martin next door. It's also a separate immigration hassle since Anguilla is a British territory, and St Martin is French and Dutch. As an example of how chill and how tight knit the island is, I managed to lose my life vest when we kayaked back from Little Bay to Crocus beach. The guys at the kayak rental just hand waved it away and said they'd have one of their friends at a different company grab it when they went over on their next tour. I gave him a $20 tip anyway by way of apology. Everyone there seems to know each other, and you hear them beeping their horns in hello when they pass each other in The Valley. Also, driving on the "wrong" side really wasn't bad at all since there is almost no traffic. If you have to do it for the first time anywhere, this is a pretty forgiving place to do it. Anyone looking for advenure and excitment, night life and parties will be bored out of their minds. But if you are looking for a relaxing, safe, friendly vacation, there is no place better.
I stayed 2 weeks at Zemi Beach House last summer. It’s beautiful & peaceful! This summer we are going back for 1 month at the villas (next door to your video hotel). We love to snorkel & swim. It’s not crowded or a party goers destination which attracts us. The locals are such lovely people! It’s extremely expensive BUT I would rather experience one fabulous vacation than crowds of several vacations (plus our son treats us to this gorgeous island hotels & airfares). We fly directly into Anguilla with American Airlines). Local cuisines are outstanding. Veya was our favorite so far! God Bless❤
Yes, I have heard of Anguilla before, however I know next to nothing about this island. That's why I watch your travelogs for the history and culture about the places you visit. By the way, Johnny cakes are made of cornmeal while traditional northern pancakes are made from wheat flour. Anguilla is such a beautiful island!
And the great thing about a long narrow island is that if it’s rough on the north (Shoal Bay in this case) you flip over to the south coast - Rendezvous Bay would have been much calmer for you. So now you know for your next visit😎
Before my current wife and I were married, I had us 2 airline tickets and reservations at Meads Bay Beach Villas in Anguilla and it was actually half way affordable. Then the economy crashed. Had to change the tickets to Cancun and an inclusive stay at Moon Palace. It was a great trip but it was a bummer to miss a chance to visit Anguilla!!! Check out Jimmy Buffetts’s live concert there at Bankie Banks’ Dune Preserve!
I first heard of Anguilla decades ago, when the news covered the unusual story of paratroopers and 'bobbies' being despatched to sort out unrest caused by the island not wishing to be decolonised into St Kitts & Nevis. Operation SHEEPSKIN was dubbed 'The Bay of Piglets' by an amused Press. It's on my bucket-list but is an easier journey for an American or a Frenchman than for a Brit. Good video.
Really, really enjoyed this one. Must add my “2 cents “ worth on the Mini Moke. The original was a variation of the Austin Mini. BMC hoped to market it to the army as a mini jeep but I don’t think it ever happened. So it was sold as a recreational vehicle especially in warmer parts of the Commonwealth. My childhood best friend who lived near Detroit bought one in ‘67. We drove it from there to Halifax, stopping at Expo 67. Sure got a lot of attention. Even got stopped by the police but he only wanted to check out the car. You didn’t say if yours was gas or electric. His had a convertible top but no rollbar. Gas tank was in the side. Very dangerous. The car is now in BC and has been restored.
Oh wow..amazing video…That island is absolutely beautiful…The Color of the water..omg..it’s simply beautiful…Such a great video for people who want to visit the island..you guys are amazing
i visited Anguilla in 2012 for the first time and since then i’ve been coming back every winter except for couple winters after Hurricane Maria i think? Anguilla is intoxicating ❤
Yes, of course, I have heard of Anguilla. We considered it for our honeymoon many years ago. I am glad it has completely bounced back from hurricane Irma.
That is so cool!! When I was collecting stamps, Anguilla was one of those places in the world you needed to make sure to have some in your collection to say you had a complete world collection!! Oh my, that's quite the vehicle!! The Moke ain't no joke! Sorry, couldn't help myself! lol Wind and waves and sun...and great food too!! Awesome!!
Visited once & it became an instant favorite! Authentic Caribbean, not very commercial. Best BBQ ever had was at place called Uncle Ernies (no longer there). Love AXA!!
Aw a Mini Moke!! That took me back, presume it’s an electric version these days? Absolutely gorgeous coastline, reminded me of the Algarve walking above that arch. No, I hadn’t heard of this island, thanks for showing us it’s beauty 🤗
On Anguilla now and absolutely love the vibe. Flew direct from MIA which is possible in season. Visited all of the places you highlighted, loved the Arch and Shoal Bay too! It’s definitely pricey but that helps maintain the chill vibe! Elvis Bar was brilliant!
My island 🇦🇮🇦🇮🇦🇮🇦🇮🇦🇮🇦🇮🇦🇮🇦🇮. Oh, I miss soaking in the sea water , I miss the beaches and food, especially the fresh fish and lobster 🤤😋🤤😋🤤. I can't wait to return this year for the 50th anniversary of Carnival 🎉
The Mini Moke, designed by the British Motor Corporation in the 1960s, saw limited use in the British military. Initially intended for airborne operations, its lightweight and compact design made it ideal for transportation within airfields and bases, liaison and communication tasks, and training purposes. However, its limited off-road capability and lack of protection restricted it to non-combat support roles. After military service, many Mokes became popular civilian recreational and utility vehicles.
Oh, thank you for making this video! I'm looking for a place to stay 1st week of December! Something inexpensive 😅. I'll be in Cabarete end of August/September, thanks to both of you it'll be my 2nd visit there since May. Velero Beach Resort, Love it! 💞
Hey guys. Never managed to get to Anguilla during the many years travelling to the Caribbean . But the Mini Mike brings back great memories from numerous trips to Barbados where the Moke was everywhere and cheap back then. Lots of fun and they were right hand drive just like in UK. Cheers, Dan. ✌️🇨🇦
Ok I love it, lol. I think I say that on each of your video's. That water is beautiful. I have heard of this place before but don't think I can afford this place. Thanks for taking us here. Cheers!!
You guys showcase the places you visit so incredibly well! Informative, entertaining and interesting- great video! We're adding Anguilla, the DR & St Martin (as per your last few vlogs) to our must-visit list! ✅
Sweet! This has been one of my long time dream places to visit…for a short time of course! However, that was before I found the DR. So cool to have some idea of it now especially the hotel recommendation. Thanks guys!
It is my dreamland! Make your way over to the Mosquito bar and restaurant in Portillo and get yourself some awesome food/coffee at La Fragoneta (end of my condo street). Those are my fav two places to be.
I just found your channel today, & you two have instantly become my favorite travel buddies 😁 Love the videos! By the way, I would absolutely love to go on the joint Greece trip with you guys, have a great time!
Hey! Saw you guys last week in Las Terrenas! Passed you on the street actually but didn't say hello because by the time I realized it was you I was passed you. Next time maybe!!! Will be back there for most of April though. Great video!
having lived in the Virgin Islands and driving NA car on the British side actually works better. I like being able to see the side of the road when driving vs the center. especially on tropical islands tiny roads
What time of year is this? I loved Antigua, which has beautiful beaches and is a more reasonably cost island but Anguilla's beaches are stunning. Antigua is mountainous like St Martin while Anguilla is arid and flat.
Wow what a dickhead response from someone making travel videos for people. Thanks for the advice. Will refer to google maps from now on instead of giving any of your videos views.
