Cancer is a negative side effect of the flexibility of an animal's genome to allows mutations that fuel evolution. Some of these mutations allow a species a greater chance of survival, however, some mutations can lead to cancer which is caused by the changing of the DNA of a cell that makes it a cancer. A natural protection exists for cancer. It is estimated that everyone has at least a few potentially cancerous cells emerge in our bodies every day, but our immune system destroys them before they can become cancer. In a cancer patient this mechanism fails, and the cancer cell grows out of control.
