My first musical instrument love was drums. I used to have some Buddy Rich, Gene Kruppa and Sandy Nelson records when I was a kid, I wore them out. But when I tried to be a drummer in school our band director decided I was more suited to play the Sousaphone. My drumming career ended before it started. Besides I had so many friends that were great drummers at the time it made no sense for me to try playing drums so I took up the bass guitar and 6 string guitar instead. Even though I play guitars, now I still have a passion for great drum playing. My modern day favorites would range from Billy Cobham, Steve Gadd, Mike Mangini, Mike Portnoy, Jason Costa, Terry Bozzio among others, and I absolutely love Anika. Listening to you reminds me of listening to Billy Cobham after Mahavishnu Orchestra and Steve Gadd during his Al Di Meola days in the 70's. I love your playing, you are an inspiration.
I love all the ícon drummers that are to love but I have to say that Anika is playing in another dimmension! She is by far the most creative and well managed brain in the world of drumming.
Anika, you got the freshness, the groove, the passion and the rhythm of latino without being latino. Your music is simply awesome! I enjoy every single song of yours that I can find!
Every video is a lesson in itself, syncopation, polyrhythms, rudiments, you can watch one video and have months worth of inspiration, and lessons. Awesome! She is just awesome.
Maybe in next life, i get better genes for playing drums.Anika is definately one of my favourite drummers. The progress she had over the past few years is mindblowing. My progress these past years is slim to none. I'll never be as good as Anika.

I'm not a hater, and I didn't dislike the video and didn't thumb it up or down, but I didn't like that drumming, to me, to my ears, to my tastes it was too many innappropriate notes. Overplaying. I've heard her play much, much better than that. All, my personal opinion (people are allowed to find something not to their liking, no need to call them 'haters').

Sometimes I think it’s jealousy, projection; and they hate the people that they wish they could be and are to lazy to improve themselves and strive to make something of themselves. Haha! While yours is not my type of music and style of drumming, I can still appreciate the skill required to play this. Another thing I greatly appreciate is that you don't rely on your sexual appeal like some girls do on YT. I wish more girls would be like you and less like "look at my body in a sexy lingerie while I'm trying to make sense on my instrument". I think, the only thing stopping women from being taken seriously is falling for sexist ideals of men.
Well, that's something of the dumbest shit I've ever read. Who is really to blame that MEN thinks women can't be taken seriously depending on what they are wearing? Never appreciate anything else than skill, and maybe if you like the decor or clothing or hair cut or whatever you can leave a comment. I'm always impressed and remains a huge fan of Anika and her songs. What I appreciated while meeting her during a masterclass in Paris is that she also remains very humble (if that is a correct english word...?). On the other hand, I really keep wondering what these 16 people who disliked the video meant to blame her for. The playing is awesome, the creation as well, and I don't like people not-liking without saying why. That's quite dishonest, and small-minded....
She's is such a unique player I love! her style she brings something different to drumming in what 20 + years ago was a seemingly male dominated instrument, she is brilliant! and I think adding more of the female mind to the instrument really changes and helps different styles grow, so good!
