Someone remastered recordings of multiple shows and mixed them into a high quality live album thing called Repainting Along. The version of Loch Raven from it is really nice.

@@mikeexits i've seen avey play midnight special, oliver twist, ghost of books, coral lords and ms. secret the last two times i saw him. he also busted out chocolate girl and la rapet which were insane.

I think he was, but very softly/improvisationally. in older performances of this song he would just kind of freestyle / make noises with his mouth, so maybe he was going for that? i can hear hints of his lyrics near the end of this recording

+Spencer McKee I never got why Avey didn't do the vocals live. Maybe its to add a more atmospheric emphasis live? You know, being with all the crowd and all changes the mood of the song a bit so idk, it may be a plausible theory. By the way, I love and envy you so much for being there, this would be like a dream come true for me. Thanks for the upload!

@@BlueOwnzU96 Being an artist of the sonic variety myself, I can at least say that artists like Animal Collective change and evolve even their older works regularly, and improvisation is a big part of their spirit as a performing group. I don't think there's always a particular reason for changes like that - it could simply be what he's feeling in the moment. Or perhaps they just thought it went better like that with the changes added. If you watch Avey when he sings, he in particular seems to enter a sort of dreamy trance-like state as he pours his soul into his performance. I call this "channeling" and I discovered musical applications for it myself through learning to perform Animal Collective songs. They have a certain energy to their creations that I've never quite sensed from any other artists, so I think changing their stuff like that is pretty fitting for such a pure creative spirit. Hope this helps. Because I sort of "get" where they're coming from better now that I have gotten into the groove of playing some of their songs, I think there is at least some merit to what I'm saying here. My first time performing Winters Love mostly well and properly, entering into that trance-like flow "channeling" state of being for the duration, I felt a wash of tingly energy all over and this strong sense as if I'd been "welcomed into the Animal Collective dimension" for proving myself, or something like that. Ever since that moment I've been able to mostly reliably emulate Avey's vocal style (relatively speaking, since we obviously have different bodies, and by extension different voices) and channel that unique performing energy, and incorporate the inspiration I get from it into my own style. Might sound a bit weird to those who don't have a lot of metaphysical and/or creative experience, but that's ok. :)
