I would not trust ANY lagoon in Florida. Even if Mickey Mouse is doing the back stroke on it.....if I can't see the bottom....I'm not going in....don't care how many "experts" Disney has.

You know.. suddenly I remembered him out of nowhere... and it took only fraction of seconds to type his name in search box and watching him... I am basically fan of his show on animal planet channel show called Wild Quest.. i dnt remember the exact name but it was like this... around year 2000 I used to glue to tv screen for him...

Bottom line is that it's Disney's responsibility to inform foreigners about deadly alligators living in a lagoon located 20 feet from a children's water playground. It's clear that there is an issue here, I mean they let me swim in this swamp for gods sake when I first came to Disney in the 80's.

It was half their fault as well I think, Disney failign the professional standard by not giving proper sign nor barrier. However, the parent are at fault for entering a restricted area with the sign of no swimming. A normal law-abiding citizen wouldn't enter such places. I don't know whether or not you people feel sympathy for the family or for some other reason that you can't blame them for this, but for me, the parent is also responsible for the child's death. Even without the Aligator a child only 2 years old not knowing how to swim going to water will definitely get himself into trouble, it almost as if they don't know how to raise a child. They almost remind me of this friend of mines who just have a newborn baby not feed for 3 days because they think a baby can survive 30 days without feeding, I punched the husband out of anger and told him to buy milk all while confirming to the nurse what the baby got the past 3 days. Apparently, the nurse was a jerk as well and only feed the baby water, and didn't even bother telling the parents thinking they would buy food for the baby later.

Even though Louis the Alligator is supposed to be the best part of Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire, that character was unfortunately omitted from the early performances of the show because of the terrible tragedy mentioned here. =(

"This is it's world. It's realm. It's a master predator". And you can't have a family entertainment park in the middle of all that. With or without signs. If they want to keep Disney in Orlando, then they have to build a wall. Not a fence. A wall.

There are alligators, panthers, and even a few Nile Crocodiles in Florida. There are Bull Sharks in the Potomac River outside of Washington DC. There are Mountain Lions and Bears in California woods, and Yellowstone national park. In Hawaii there are shells and coral that can kill you, in addition to territorial tiger sharks, sea serpents, eels, and squid. Disney World is one of the safest places in the world, if you do not want to risk even a small chance of an alligator encounter do not go to Florida.

I hope they put up signs. The difference between the predators you named above is that alligators have a better medium for stealth. I don't count your fish and molusks examples, as they require a much more determined action by humans to become prey, not to mention they can't cross land and reenter another water source. Burmese python would be a good example, but hey, they are pretty native to Florida as well. Again the alligator's strength and powerful jaws mean it can kill or seriously maim its prey much quicker than most predators out there. Build a wall, kill the alligators, hire more monitors, or leave the state of Florida. But don't just put up signs.

yes its an Alligator Snapping Turtle...they get hugee and hundreds of pounds...the gators cant penetrate their shells so that how ya see them coexisting with eachother..unless its a young turtle a gator wont take on an adult Alligator snapper

I cant BELIEVE Disney could not see this coming when they built the property on a swamp! the completely open beach with tiny signs that say No Swimming is COMPLETELY INADEQUATE to protect their guests!! NOW they have it properly fenced off but WHY WAIT until a tragedy occurs BEFORE they do anything? yes the father shd NOT have been on the beach AT ALL with a child but non floridian people do NOT think or do not KNOW about the dangers of a swamp. A DREADFUL incident that cd have been prevented.

Maybe they should just shut the parks down completely. I mean, saying it's properly fenced to keep gators out is like saying a bandaid will stay on in the water. Sometimes it will, if you're lucky, but they usually don't. Gators climb fences, break into screened in porches and get in ppls pools. Should they have had better signage, yeah sure, but if people are that dumb not to research where they're going as a whole, they should keep their butts at the house, or just go to McDonald's or chuck e cheese.

They should've stayed out of the water no matter what. There was a sign, everyone should know it was full of gators (sign stated to not go in water) going in one inch is consider going in after therefore breaking rules and putting your safety at risk.

Jeff is literally one of the best (he debunked the manatook monster to be a bloated raccoon). But when he used former data from Disney for safety talk...he forgets his own knowledge of evolution. Talking 20 years ago means nothing to a modern day gator. Ever changing habits
