Seen in a garden in Johannesburg South Africa, a Bulbul took a chance with a Milkweed locust, a genus that is said to emit a poison from its wings when threatened, but the Bulbul did not seem perturbed & went slogging with the locust. Some Cape Sparrows came to witness the duel but would not interfere.
Would have missed the fight but from my time in rural areas, I learnt of the alarm call of the Bulbul while hunting birds with a catapult as a young boy. I thought it was my lucky day to shoot a Bulbul, under the tree I took cover looking to aim, I came face to face with a Green Mamba, it came to inspect me, we looked eye to eye then crouched back from under the thicket, since then I know the call is alert to danger.
