@@SilverKiwi_YT wouldn't say so. Yoyo's remind me of terraria, so does the art style and some of the sound effects, especially the explosions, are very very reminiscent of terraria's sound design. But it for sure took some inspo from rain world als well

From some cursory searches, dunkey's involvement in this is that he made(?) the indie publishing company Bigmode, but the developer in this case is Shared Memory, which from what i can tell, isn't run by him. Being the Publisher of a game is VERY different to being the developer. They're helpful, of course, and can be instrumental to the game's success, but saying that Dunkey(which, even then, it's a whole team in Bigmode, not just him) made the game instead of Shared Memory is like saying Bandai Namco made Elden Ring instead of fromsoft, or another example, saying that scholastic made Harry Potter. Full disclosure, I have a limited understanding of the situation and really only saw this trailer and looked around google, so if dunkey runs Shared Memory, feel free to correct me, but from all i can find, he doesn't seem to.

Maybe not "should". This uses a proprietary engine which is why it can look like this, that and not every game should look the same.

You could also argue it's more "modern" and less "retro-authentic", it still looks great though.

Also dismissing the work of others for no reason isn't cool.

Yeah, but it's clearly not the same gameplay. Animal Well is more "find all the secret that we hide in the game" + Metroidvania. You have to interact with the environnement. Something will act differently if you use this item or not.

Playing as a lil guy? Check Big animals trying to kill you? Check Procedural animation? Check Yeah I can see it

yeah a lot of games looking like they are colored in only highlight markers or crayons but this game looking more like good old dark mode.
