The Central Animal Zoo ( जावलाखेलको चिडियाखाना ) in Kathmandu, Nepal, also known as the Jawalakhel Zoo, is the only zoo in Nepal. It is located in the Jawalakhel neighborhood of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, which is just south of Kathmandu.
The Central Zoo covers an area of about six hectares and is home to a variety of animals, including tigers, leopards, elephants, rhinoceroses, monkeys, and many species of birds. It also has a small aquarium.
The zoo was established in 1932 as a private zoo by the Rana prime minister, Juddha Shumsher Jang Bahadur Rana. It was later opened to the public in 1956. 1. The Central Zoo opens 10:00 am - 05:00 pm hours from Sunday to Saturday
2. Visitors can purchase tickets from 1000 -1700 hours during summers and 1000 -1600 hours during winters (Kartik 16 to Magh 15 in the Nepali calendar, generally falling between early November and to end of January)
3. Fishing is open from the 1st of Chaitra till the 30th of Kartik
4. The use of Plastic bags is prohibited
