*ANIMATED MASTERPIECE!!* Rise of the Guardians (2012) Reaction: FIRST TIME WATCHING 

Love Santa's speech, he speaks about how people can be many things, but who they are at the center represents what makes them, them.

When Pitch kills Sandman, that is fear killing our dreams. Our dreams can only resurface when we cast aside fear, self-doubt, cynicism, defeatism--and fight for what we want.

For some context on the mouse: In Spain and other Hispanic-speaking countries like Peru, Mexico, and Chile, that little fairy takes the form of a mouse! El Ratoncito Pérez or Ratón Pérez operates much like the tooth fairy, stopping by to grab a baby tooth that's been placed under a pillow and replacing it with a treat or coins.

This is one of my favorite holiday-themed movies, and it's a tragedy that it's been mostly forgotten. It's just so well done. A great script, a great cast, a fun adventure... just so good. So glad you decided to react to it. There's apparently a whole series of books that this is based on, but unfortunately it didn't do well enough in the theaters for them to make a sequel.

With my children, when they were old enough, I explained to them that Santa is a human personification of all the important parts of Christmas- selflessness, joy, wonder, thankfulness, community etc. He may not exist as an actual person but he does exist inside everyone who chooses to believe in and emulate what he represents.

The thing about the Boogeyman (aka. Pitch) in this universe? He used to be a genuine protector of kids in the ‘scare them straight’ sense. But over time, he got corrupted into terrifying them in the malicious sense.

I love that you are revisiting this movie with her. Her being so culturally blind to all these well known legendary characters is kind of fun, it makes her reaction really memorable. 😄

When I was a kid, the anticipation of Santa was the best part of Christmas. Laying in bed and hearing noises outside and thinking... is it Santa?? is that a reindeer? I loved that. My son-in-law wants to raise his kids with the knowledge that Santa is not real.. he says he doesn't want to lie to his kids. Everyone lies to their kids ( white lies I am talking about). I don't see the harm in letting the kids think that some being can come down a chimney, have a naughty list and decide if you behaved well enough for the year. When my kids were little, we did not live close to my parents. I would threaten them that I was going to call Santa... and I would call my parent and have my dad talk to them(as Santa). When I told my kids, year later after they found out, I told them that I was actually calling their grandfather. they were surprised by that I think. There were a couple of times that Mrs. Claus talked to the kids too. I enjoyed the reaction. But reading some of the comments about your girl friend being "culturally blind" was I think a bit harsh. We don't know all the cultural things in every country so we are all basically 'culturally blind' if you think about.

I was a teenager and still putting together plates of cookies for Santa. Like, we knew that he wasn’t real, but the idea that he might be was still interesting and fun. We also really enjoy looking at the different lore from different cultures. The idea that there are stories of a Santa figure from many different places across the planet makes it easier to have a little sliver of hope in the back of your mind. I feel like it helps kids retain some of their imagination and creativity. I love these characters and their stories, even if it’s seen as childish to believe in them.

I really like this film. Your reactions were so relatable! I don't know if there is anything to back it up, but I've seen a theory that Jamie is a descendant of Jack's sister whom he saved back on that lake. Their hair and eyes are the same, and their faces are so similar it's unlikely to be a coincidence, particularly in an animated movie with a lot of varied characters. So, Jack doesn't just protect the last child to believe, the last light, Jack is the reason he exists in the first place, all because he scarified himself so long ago.

This movie is one of my favorites, such a beautiful story and so full of hope. I don't understand why it isn't more well known...

Santa Claus' tattoos are everything... Jack is amazing, but sandman is my favorite! When I first watched this and sandman disappeared I cried!!!

It's a common Theory that Jamie is a descendant of Jack's sister that he saved when he was alive, the brown hair and same eyes. I like that theory that they were drawn together without even knowing it. After hundreds of years of wandering lost to find his way to his family.

I live in south africa and my family believed in the tooth mouse , you'd put your tooth in a shoe at your door at night before you sleep and in the morning , you'd get a gift from the mouse which is usually money . Jack frost was the only one I didn't know before watching this movie

In my family (in Belgium) Santa wasn't that big of a deal. In French speaking countries, we have another holiday, on 6th December, called "Saint Nicolas" after Saint Nicolas who is said to protect school children and who gives gifts just like Santa. Fun fact, Saint Nicolas is the character people later based Santa Claus on (if you say the names quickly, it even sounds similar). So in my family, we still got some gifts for Christmas but it was much smaller than for Saint Nicolas, and Santa Claus (called "Père Noël", ie "Father Christmas") was a secondary gift giver. We didn't think much about Santa, but we did believe in Saint Nicolas. I remember we'd wake up on the morning of the 6th December and there would be gifts spread out on the living room table. Gifts we'd asked for, as well as chocolate and candy. Then we would open the fire place and scream "Thank you Saint Nicolas!" into the chimney. The way my parents went about it so that we wouldn't be as shocked when we learned the truth is that from the beginning, my dad always said "I'm Saint Nicolas. I make all the toys in my workshop". He's a roofer and he indeed has a workshop to store tools, nails etc. But obviously we knew he wasn't making any gift in there, so we'd just brush him off. I was told the truth by my mom when we were just us two in the car, and at that point I had already kind of guessed. I pretended for two more years though, because I have a younger sister and didn't want to break the magic for her. When she learned the truth too, my dad said "see, I told you I was Saint Nicolas" and while he wasn't the one making the toys, it's true he was the one bringing them in.

Funfact: the reason why pitchblack nightmares take on the form or horses and not ya know, terrfying monsters is because of the play of words Night*Mare*. Mare=horse. So night mare lol. Pretty cool

I always saw it as the LEGEND of Santa and the Easter Bunny and all of them in the spirit of fantasy tradition. Fables and parables that you can believe in or look forward towards in hope and dreams. Same legendary vein of what would Buffy do and what would make you worthy of wielding Mjölnir.

I think it's all in how you approach it. The concept of Santa can be an exercise in how to think if you don't lie to your kids. For example, I will usually tell my kids, "I've heard..." and provide some information about Santa that they've questioned. Then afterwards, I'd ask them what they think.

Jack Frost is a holiday spirit of winter. The part of this movie about him takes from the fantasy lore of the character

My dad had an honesty policy when it came to holiday characters and urban legends. He would play along as far as initially telling me about Santa and the Tooth Fairy, and would go along with the act of it. But he always told himself that if I ever asked outright, if Santa and the Tooth Fairy were real, then he would absolutely be honest about it. I admit, figuring out the truth did make me sad - specifically because once you figure out that one isn't real, it's not too hard to figure out that the other is also fake, so it's sort of a one-two gut punch - but once the initial shock and sadness that magic doesn't exist left, I was fine. Honestly, it was probably one of the things that made me a but tougher in life. (I was a weak eilled kid) The real world isn't fair and sometimes the things you believe in fall through or fall short of what you imagined. But there are silver linings in everything, if you have the right perspective. Mine was that, Santa Claus might not be a real, fantastical being, but he's still in the hearts of my parents. That love and care - that want for me to be happy, come Christmas morning - was always my parents. The one who spoiled me whenever my tooth fell out wasn't the Tooth Fairy, but my parents.

This movie had a big cast. Hugh Jackman as bunny, Chris Pine as Jack, Jude Law as Pitch, and Alec Baldwin as Santa.

This movie is so underated it's criminal. I have watched it more times then I can count and I LOVE it.

This movie is an absolute beauty

Is weird at first, but Jack Frost has the power over and is the representation of winter and snow days. Causing the snowstorms that make school days off so kids can play in the snow all day. The detail with the beings like Jack and the others, most of them draw power from the children who believe in them, except Jack, but also, if no one believe in them they can't be touch or seen. Jack had that problem for most of the movie.

Rise of the Guardians is my favourite Christmas movie.

I love how Rise of the Guardians became a Christmas holiday movie, when it’s actually set at Easter.

I'm not a parent but I have two siblings who are sort of significantly younger than me. Our parents never made too big of a deal about Santa coming, so we just gradually put it together ourselves. (I especially knew when I saw my mum had a roll of the specific wrapping paper that the presents from Santa were in)

I watched this movie on Friday! Always a fun movie for Christmas or Easter... and all year! Loved the reaction.

We did tell my son about Santa but we never really made him into a huge thing. We said that mom and/or dad had to help pay for the presents which is why some kids get more than others. Then,when he was old enough to ask if he was real, we explained that Santa is a way for people to do nice things for people without taking credit for it. That way it instills that doing something nice is its own reward.

In Mexico we also leave our fallen teeth for the Mouse. 😊 So I loved they included him.

My favourite way to soften the blow of discovering Santa isn't real is to let kids feel like they are being let in on a SECRET, not a LIE. You become Santa's helper when you start giving out your own gifts. Then when they start to stop believing, they become a Santa when the give out their own gifts. They get to join in on the joy of gift giving and secretly buying and wrapping and hiding gifts!

You asked how sand man came back. Simple the kids faught the nightmares, if you defeat the nightmare all that is left is a good dream. Dreams are the center of Sand mans power. So with the nightmares being defeated dreams provel and sand mans power grows.

I really like that it was the kids' belief and standing up to their fears that stopped Pitch and revived Sandy. The moral is that the Bogeyman can thrash Guardians from here to Easter Sunday but he doesn't have any real power over them

This movie is awesome and another underrated movie and animation is truly spectacular ❄️❄️ I love the story and of course characters like they made every character look totally badass especially the Easter Bunny 🐰 and the voice acting is top notch and Pitch is a really great villain, Jude Law really played to perfection. My favourite parts are the battle scenes of course but there were the emotional scenes as well like Sandman dies but at least he came back and when Jamie finally saw Jack it was a beautiful moment and it really meant a lot to him ❤️ loved you guys reaction and so happy you enjoyed the movie and can wait the next movie you do 😊😁😉❄️❄️

Rise Of The Guardians is based on a book series by William Joyce. The film is great but the book series takes it to the next level. Each book focuses on a different guardian and tons of great plot and story are lost in the movie.

I do love that Pitch spends half the movie just trying to figure out why tf Jack Frost is here.

I've always felt that Jamie was one of Jack's descendants since I first saw this movie. I know I'm reading way too much into this movie, but I've always liked this film. It's wonderfully written and directed; every voice actor fit each character perfectly. BTW I think that many cultures have their "boogey man", he just has a variety of names depending on the culture.

There is a version of a Bigfoot creature in almost all nations and all 6 continents. Just different names. (Yeti, Yeh Teh, Yeren, Orang Pendek, Yowie, Almasty, Alma, Podeka, Solquinn, Masqua, Morqua, Tifaniti, Jo'Jorghi, Tahaneha, Solpatack, Sasquatch. Just the same there are fairy type characters found in folklore all over the world. The books have even more characters and they explain the whole Man in the Moon character and so much more.

Ahhhh! I love this film and I am so glad you reacted to it. So underrated. My favourite out of the Guardians would be Jack Frost.❄I watch this one year-round, though I do tend to watch it back-to-back with The Holiday -- which also stars Jude Law, and is also well worth a watch! I would also recommend While You Were Sleeping as a good holiday movie, but I don't see many people react to it. Have a wonderful festive season -- we celebrate both Winter Solstice and Christmas in our home, so lots of options for relaxation, joy, and gratitude. 🧡

Pitch's centre is fear. He maintains his power through it, he needs it to survive. That's why the thing he knows best is people's greatest fears. Not specifically childrens' - he picks out children presumably because of the Guardians. They used the belief of children to overshadow him once and then they used it to overthrow him again. Moral of the story? Have children fight your battles, I guess. Fear need not be evil, but then, Fear here never really got guidance. Arguably neither did Jack, hence he's guilty of child endangerment so many times over. MiM is a douche for neglecting Jack.

If she's not seen them, you should introduce her to classic Christmas movies like Elf and Home Alone!

I've seen this movie a few times over the years, love the actors who did such a great job voicing their characters. First time I ever watched it, you just don't ever think of the Easter Bunny having an Aussie accent lol. Or Santa in this vibe being Russian and having Tats, with Yeti's/ Bigfoots working for him. Alec Baldwin was very good. And Jude Law has always been great at being a good guy or a really bad guy. It didn't surprise me being that Wen, being from Vietnam - not knowing these fabled icons of lore. As I think most are American and/or Western European origins. Her living inbthe U.S., and being now exposed to these thru the movie, she's learned something new. 😊 She quite enjoyed the movie too. As far as Santa goes, usually I think most kids by the time they are 11-13, the illusion of fabled Santa is gone. Though there really was a Saint Nicholas ages ago. The whole vibe of Santa is just to embrace within you the Magic of what he is. 😊

I once tried to extort the tooth fairy. I insisted she pay a late fee that was 400% the normal amount in addition to my usual one dollar. The next morning, I woke up to the usual dollar coin and a note that said "nice try."

Makes sense that Sandman would be the most powerful. After all, of the ‘guardians’ on display in this film, stories of him have been in existence for the longest amount of time in human history.

This film deserved better

This was among the animated movies I grew up watching, I can't help but wish that I could go back in time back to when this first came out, those were "magical" times to us kids born in the early 2000's and late 1990's. Also now that I've watched "The Sandman" series, I've came to the conclusion that Sandy and Pitch are two sides of the same coin and two halves of the same loaf of bread, in other words Sandy is the good representation and Pitch is the bad representation of the Entity known as Morpheus, lord of dreams and nightmares. I've came to this conclusion because Sandy is Sandman, same as Morpheus and he holds power of dreams through sand, just like Morpheus and the case with Pitch is that he hold's power over nightmares through sand, just like Morpheus and he looks similar to Morpheus, slender, always wearing black, unkept hair, pale skin and a monotone like voice. That's just my conclusion, idk if it's true or not.

I think the lesson of the movie is, dreaming. Never stop and dont give up on your dreams.

I thought this was such a cute movie and my kiddos loved it. Fun fact though. Did you know it is scientifically impossible for Santa's reindeer to be males? Both male and female reindeer have antlers but only the males shed their antlers around October and they don't grow back till around April.

I'm a bit lat here, but I'd just like to recommend to anyone who enjoys reading to check out the books these movies were adapted from. The story is incredibly different from the movie version, but in my opinion, both versions are great. They are pretty short reads too, so it's easy to get through.

My favorite scences is pitch black is defeated

It wasn't so much traumatizing finding out that Santa and such were not real and more disappointment if I remember correctly. It kinda sucked how I found out tbh - my late grandmother woke me up to come help her set up the Easter stuff (eggs/footprints made of baby powder) when she was watching us one time. I had still been believing up to that point... lol

25:00 Easter is celebrated all over the globe - but the original tradition of rabbits/eggs goes farther back then the Christian roots. While all countries which had rabbits or birds had some mythologies or beliefs around them and their significance the earliest recording of a ‘Spring’ energy and being and the combo of rabbits and birds wasn’t seen till Estore/Estare/Ostara (which you may notice looks like the word Easter) ruins and remnants of her existence was discovered in the 8th ce. Basically a goddess/Figure of Spring altho how much she was worshiped is unknown she is the root origin of modern day Easter as a word and the basic ideals outside of Catholicism directly. (She was a young girl in charge of the seasons bringing ice aka the winter to what would have been the last spring/summer- and it’s a harsh winter to survive. The idea was her heart freezes over and so does the world only to melt because she falls in love with a small bird. Migratory or song bird doesn’t really matter the small bird can’t survive the harsh winter so she melts all the snow to give him streams and sand and grass and seeds and trees - paradise. The story continues to say that the bird is still wild and because it is spring again all of the wild animals appear. While they all try to gain springs attention and affections no other animal can be as beautiful acrobatic and float in the air with the goddess. The rabbit sees this challenge and sees a loophole. The rabbit leaps into the air doing twist turns and spins with every leap it to being beautiful acrobatic and seemingly floating in air. The goddess still sees the rabbit as being less amusing then the bird- But the bird has fallen in love and adored the way the rabbit had danced and flown. The goddess is horrified that the bird no longer loves her, as the rabbit and the bird circle eachother and make little nests in the ground of tall grass seemingly weaving themselves a home together, tuffs of fur and feathers, little bundles of eggs appear within those woven homes. The goddess is amazed by how they move together her anger over the bird falling in love fades as she promises there will be both a winter again yet it will melt away to spring so they can dance with eachother. -- to be clear locally speaking the rabbits would make grass burrows and bundles seemingly bowl shape indents along the ground where they would have hairless bean like to chubby round baby bunny bundles along with ground dwelling birds which lived in the grasses and Also wove grass houses and laid eggs in these grass houses. Both animals had similar homes and ways of living in the grass due to location you can move tall grass and see a bowl/basket of bunnies/eggs it was almost a 50/50 shot. So the story is rather interesting and resulted because of real life animals and their behavior and humans noticing it enough ti make a story of it and relating that to the change of seasons.

In Spain we do have Ratoncito Pérez (mousie), he comes and picks your tooth while you are sleeping, and either leaves money or a present. i loooove this movie. it's so good, so beautifully and well done. Frozen wishes it had these effects. the snow and ice? frozen is lazy compared to them. And to think it didnt get famous, probably because of bad marketing. i only watched it cause my favourtie german actor dubbed Jack (i didnt understand a word of german back then so that went...well XD) Santa telling the kids jokingly "you are all on naughty list!" hahaah also the fairies fangirling over Jack ahahahah icons. them and the little jingle elves and Phil. all icons XDD Sandman ready to punch a kid. also an icon ALSO YOU STAYED FOR THE CREDIT SCENES. BLESS. FAVE PEOPLE 🤣🤣

Who likes snow ball fights? If your getting hit on the jacket it’s fine but the face it’s painful. You feel a burning sensation due to how thick and cold it is, and can’t see anything. I once had a piece of wood inside of it and it scratched near my eyes and it could have made me disabled due to an infection.
