It's a shame that Derrick J Wyatt passed away because his art style would have worked perfectly for a DC animated cartoon or even a cartoon based on Sonic the Hedgehog
I think his style would've worked beautifully for Sonic the Hedgehog. That would've been fun to see. I think he could've done a great job with Mega Man too.
That ending just hits so hard... It's so sad how Derrick never stopped caring about the show, constantly thought up new ideas and concepts, and always wanted to continue the story in some way, but just never got the chance to before his passing.
@@sub-zero5433 Yeah... It's so frustrating, especially since the reason it was cancelled is because they wanted to make their own network - which ended up being a huge failure from what I've heard. It's so sad that we never got to see the conclusion of various story arcs/mysteries that were still being built up.

Or they could have gone the Shattered Glass route where they look into AFTER the Autobots have won the war on Cybertron and are now hunting down remnants of the Decepticons, a disdained and self-loathing Megatron and a Starscream who had to cheer up the very person he wish to overthrow was a great concept. I'm so disappointed that the comic isn't well-known in the TF fanbase because it's just that niche.
If I had a nickel for each time Cosmos was cut from a show and would have got his vehicle mode from a b-movie set I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Derrick J Wyatt, Marty Isenberg, the crew and voice actors deserve their roses for managing to bring an amazing Transformers show for many kids in the late 2000s to early 2010s. ✨ I was six years old when this show aired. This was my Generation 1, the reason why I am a passionate Transformers fan today. 🙏🏽 This is one of those special shows where I will happily rewatch over and over and never ever get bored. ✨😊✨ Rest in peace, Derrick. ❤
Now I genuinely want to know how many seasons they wanted to make and how long they would’ve continued the story. How they wanted to properly wrap up the show or what the proper ending would’ve been.
I guess I forgot to mention this but Marty says they were generally expecting season 4 to be their final one. They didn’t necessarily have a desired ending in mind, they just went where the story led them. I don’t think Animated ever would’ve had a satisfying “series finale” where everyone gets their arcs wrapped up, tbh.

The Hannibal style Megatron manipulating Sentinel sounds really cool. I imagine the ending to that version of season 4 would have been a 3 way fight between Optimus, Blackarachnia, and Sentinel.
And instead, Megatron escaping via Trypticon Complex and coming to Earth to exploit the Energon deposits and eventually becoming Marauder Megatron could have been for Season 5, With allusions to Unicron and the Zombified Predacon horde being how the series truly ended, indicating the dark future of Bumble Prime would still come to pass, but In that, the Autobots and Decepticons would finally put aside their differences and fight as a whole Cybertronian people
The current theory on TFWiki about Sari's origin (hinted at in the "Continuity notes" section of the "Trial of Megatron, Part 1" article) is that she's possibly a time-displaced Maximal protoform from the future, since in the TFNation presentation of that episode, her protoform was noted by Isaac Sumdac as being much smaller than those from which Autobots and Decepticons are born, her protoform was shown to have scanned Sumdac himself back in the flashback shown in "TransWarped, Part I" (meaning her protoform scanned an organic lifeform rather than a machine in order to acquire an organic altmode instead of a mechanical one), and a line from Prowl's ghost from inside the AllSpark says to Sari, "You are the key... to the future of Cybertron... and Earth." Although, that last line could instead be taken to suggest that she's simply the first protoform of a new generation yet to come, the "first Maximal" so to speak, rather than her protoform having literally come from the future

Considering these were more loose ideas, I could imagine a later draft involving Megatron first forcefully putting Lugnut in the reactor core before the others without explanation, planting seeds of doubt in Lugnut that would need to be further cultivated because it would definitely take _A LOT_ for Lugnut to turn on Megatron.
Even years after the show ended, Derrick J. Wyatt continued to craft and expand the lord of Transformers: Animated even until his finals days. He is a man that deserves to be honored by Hasbro and I hope it’s either through an anniversary celebration for TFA, or even better a season 4 with all the ideas the crew had while coming up with the canceled season and new toys to boot!

I could see a proper season 4 being a mix of the two different ideas they had, starting with the Predacon threat before transitioning back to Megatron by the season finale, with his escape from Cybertron. He could have had reoccurring interactions with Sentinel, planting ideas in his head that lead to the implementation of Megatron's means of escape.
I agree, the way I see it, the way season 3 ended, a plot on Cybertron and predacons being the main threat seems like the most logical continuation. Everything with Megatron escaping and going back to earth just sounds stupid to me.

Derrick and Marty's original season 4 ideas sound amazing. Cybertron being the main setting, Blackarachnia as the main antagonist and trying to make everything techno-organic like her, the Dinobots clashing with Devastator, the Time Trucker with Elita 1 leading the Autobots and Optimus as a techno-organic in a different future, and Megatron manipulating events in prison to ensure his return. However, I also think Hasbro had some really great ideas too, Marauder Megatron and Powermaster Optimus Prime for example, and I'm still hoping that there's a way where all those ideas can be combined into one big tribute to Derrick.
Hearing about Trukk Vs Munky, Mirror Mirror, and Bumble Prime makes me even more sad that TFA didn't get a season four (The idea of Galvatron being ruler of a Post Unicron war cybertron sounds Sick as all hell, and the Art done for it By Josh Perez is AWESOME!!)
Personally, I think that the best way to make Megatron go bonkers would be for him to kill Blitzy, either on purpose or by accident, and then have whatever was secretly possessing Blitz, causing him to go mad and become a triplechanger, to then be transfered to Megs. It would give him an interesting relationship to himself, trying to be the voice of reason against this otherwise chaotic influence. This would all culminate in the voice getting a body of its own and become something... ungodly. *If you know, you know.*
I wish the community could come together and make season 4, there is definitely people who have the talent to animate episodes on the level of season 3

We need a comicbook series that continues Transformers Animated. Come on, Hasbro, you're making legacy Animated Characters so I thinks it's a good idea to make the series continue in comic format.
Now that you mention it, at a Hasbro Pulse panel a few months back, I asked one of the members of the Transformers brand team about a season 4 comic book tribute to Derrick J. Wyatt, and they said that they would bring the idea back to their franchise side where the comics are published.
What's interesting is Hasbro is actually aware of fans wanting a 4th season so it's not like they're oblivious towards it. You never really know, Hasbro could be waiting for the right time to announce and build up hype. Recently they've gone back to the Beast Wars era, this here shows they're willing to head back through previous eras of Transformers. This makes me have faith that a continuation of TFA is still possible by the mid 2020s or so.
The way I see it, their original season 4 idea sounds way better than what Hasbro forced them to work with. With the way season 3 ended, a plot on cybertron and techno-organic predacons seems like the most logical continuation. It would be interesting if maybe Blackarrachnia decided to force all of Cybertron to become techno-organic and "suffer" the same way she's suffered. At the same time Sari would have to combat the derogatory attitude of autobot society toward her techno-organic nature. I could imagine an interesting duality between them. Sari's attempts to befriend other autobots would fruitless due to Blackarrachnia's attacks. And while Optimus and Sentinel are both bickering about how to defeat Blackarrachnia, I could see that in a final battle between the autobots and predacons Sari would manage to talk Blackarrachnia out of her vengeance. She could show her that attacking the autobots will never get them to accept her and that she needs to take a different approach. It's 3:00 AM right now and I might come back to add to this later. Honestly, considering that Season 4 was going to be heavily mandated by Hasbro to promote the toy sales, fans should be wary of the Monkey's Paw. Season 4 only sounds great because it was in the middle of brainstorming ideas that sound awesome on paper. But knowing Hasbro, that Devastator episode would have been scrapped for not promoting viable toys on the market and a whole other stuff would have been changed by the time Season 4 is finalized and ready to air. I feel that the actual end product would have been seen as Animated trying to ride on the movie's success rather than be its own thing, which is really where Animated shines.

It's easy to dream up the best season when it's not actually in production and under supervision from Hasbro. But factor in Hasbro, and suddenly you see the exact issues that plagued the G1 Cartoon, Beast Wars, Prime, and RiD 2015. Even Animated Season 3 wasn't immune give that Prowl's Samurai armor was brought back because Hasbro wanted to promote toys of it, ignoring the original message that Prowl doesn't need an armor upgrade.
And to this day,It still deserves a 4th Season in Derrick J Wyatt's Honor cause his Artstyle deserves a lot of Justice(and I mean a WHOLE Lot) and I have a list of some Companies who will potentially do the Animation which you can only pick one. 1. Studio Trigger(Same Company that worked Cyberpunk Edgerunners,Kill la kill,Panty and Stocking etc) 2. Titmouse(Same Company that worked on Motorcity,Turbo F.A.S.T,Dynamite,The Legend of Vox Machina etc) 3. Transformers Animated is the greatest not just cartoon, but TV show of the 2000's, and one of the all-time best. I want to thank Derrick J. Wyatt, Marty Isenberg, Matt Youngberg, David Kaye, Corey Burton, Jeff Bennet, Bumper Robinson, Bill Fagerbakke, Tara Strong, Tom Kenny, Marsha Griffin, Andrew Robinson, and everyone else. Not to mention their other work, like Ben 10: Omniverse, which is also great.
Perhaps in Gremlins in the Gears, the minicons running the prison would have gone on a destructive rampage in Detroit thinking that all of the technology there was actually a bunch of escaped prisoners (possibly all Megatron since it was all reverse-engineered by Sumdac from Megatron's body) and so they go about resolving the "breakout", which simply entails mercilessly attempting to deconstruct the "escapees", and this clues Megatron on a flaw in the minicons which he can take advantage of so they do his bidding for the remainder of the season.
Now the terrorist organisation S.T.E.A.M. does sound like a really cool idea especially for the near future Cyberpunk setting that Transformers animated had especially since there have been a number of cartoons in recent years that featured steampunk villains
Shows like this made my childhood. Those days me & my siblings quickly come home & watch TF animated. Glad to see that this show is still loved by many.
Now I’m even more disappointed that we didn’t get to see the full team of Dinobots fighting Devasator/Constructicons. But I’m glad to hear that they did discuss doing something with them.
If I can someday have some kind of influence in the transformers world, I'd resurrect transformers animated in a heartbeat. This show was my entire childhood and I wanted it to go for 5 or 6 seasons back then. I genuinely think it could definitely go for another 3 seasons nowadays. We have the designs and the art style which can very easily be followed and the toys would definitely be successful even now. Maybe I'm just a hopeful fan boy, but I genuinely think now TFA could be as great as transformers prime. Animated can come back once again, I promise you it can.
What made me sad is not a lot of publishers/writers dared to justify Megatron's actions or invest deeper into why he is the way he is. And instead always opt for the generic, big bad of the week. I remember reading Shattered Glass and that was amazing, hell, even Transformers: Armada did this and it was great.

If it wasn't Primus, and it wasn't Megatron, then Sari was probably spawned by Unicron. Who else would have the power necessary to create such an odd cybertronian life form, who for all we know is unique among her species? Here is my reasoning: you mentioned that there would have been an episode which took place after the Unicron Wars. That means Unicron would have been canon in Animated. I believe it is possible that Sari could have been an unknowing sleeper agent (maybe one among many) sent out and designed to adapt and assimilate to the local civilization while acting as a beacon of sorts to allow Unicron to find planets fit for consumption. Of course, Sari would have no idea. I do not think this is too far fetched given that Unicron's creations are not always inherently evil, as seen with the minicons in Armada. It is just my personal theory, but to me it makes perfect sense if Primus and Megatron are already scratched off the list of potential origin points. Think about it: Sumdac finds this random protoform that nobody claims or knows anything about? It screams some sort of plant. A plant to draw someone or something to someplace.
the idea is intriguing, I personally prefer the idea she's a maximal protoform personally but the idea she's secretly a plant by unicron (kind of like how the herald's of galactus scout out planets)

Imagine if the minicon episode was made it would be a great episode to bring in Frenzy and Rumble and have them becoming team up with Soundwave. Having the mini-twins being reoccurring annoyances for the Autobots.

I love how no episode feels wasted. EVERY episode feels like it is important to the franchise in one way or another, wether it be introducing characters, fleshing theme out, or advancing the plot. No other show I have ever watched is like that.
I loved this show so much and still do. Thank you for taking the time to put all of this information together and share it with all of us! It's lovely to finally know what it all may have been with a season 4 - even if it wasn't definitive and simply base ideas. (It's made me need to go watch the show again to remember just how great it was)
If I was able to revive Transformers: Animated, here's what I would do: 1. I would leave Season 4 exactly as planned. 2. Make a Fifth Season based on what the Writers originally intended for season 4, where it takes place mostly on Cybertron and Blackarachnia and the predacons are the villains. 3. Make a Sixth and final season revolving around Unicron and Galvatron.
Personally, I don’t think animated will come back and get a revived series, but what I would love to see, is animated finally get a complete Blu-ray edition.
TFA Season 4 naturally always had a mystique to it, and I feel like that only increases knowing that all of these are just what could have been, and not necessarily what *would* have been considering the nature of a lot of what we consider "Season 4" content came long after the show wrapped production. Anyway, going through all your TFA vids now, and I really want to commend the amount of research you put into this and the fact that you also reached out to the writers to uncover more information and fanartists to bring the concepts to life. That all sounds like it must have been a bit daunting, but it really paid off here. I kind of felt like we all should just give Season 4 a rest and move on, both out of respect for Derrick after his passing and because I know that if TV creators break NDA or talk about stuff in this much detail they can't really use any of it. But if the other writers are still interested in continuing it in some way... yknow what, why not? It's really unbelievable how many people TFA touched and how its made its mark on both the fandom and the franchise. I think the best thing most of us can do is just show our appreciation for it; dust off our collections, draw and commission fanart of our robot blorbos, cosplay and talk about it at cons. I never really know how to wrap up longer comments like these, but I don't think the "legend" will ever really die.
Not gonna lie, after that heart wrenching ending, I'm hoping for a video that covers possible theories/answers as to what Sari Sumdac's true origin was in Transformers Animated as a tribute to Derrick's most mysterious character
Underrated show in my book. The animation was pretty good for Cartoon Network standards, and I loved the majority of the character designs. The setting was decent, but I feel like the show in general had wasted potential. For one, we never got an actual new team member for the Earthbound Autobots until literally the final battle when Jazz and Arcee joined them. We were always so close whenever someone new was introduced like Wreck-Gar, Mixmaster, Scrapper, Blurr, or the Dinobots, but something would always go wrong that prevented this, and some of these guys either nearly joined the Decepticons or completely joined the Decepticons. I will say I liked how there were more than just Decepticons for the bad guys like Meltdown, Nanosec, Angry Archer, or Slow-Mo, but they hardly did anything with these alternative villains.
I say, when the Transformers license for IDW expires, we campaign who ever gets it next to make a comic continuation. Or campaign IDW if they manage to hold on
Animated was technically my first Transformers series I watched and I instantly fell in love. I was devastated to hear about Derrick J Wyatt’s passing, he clearly loved being apart of TF history and I, too hope to see Animated make a return someday.
I can’t thank you enough for bringing all this information to light and keeping this fandom alive! This and your storyboards have all inspired me to put together my own imagining of Season 4.
I hate that people with great ideas for a show always have to bend things or outright remove them cause of the corporate idiots who have no idea what they're doing. I get they want toys to show up in the shows so kids will buy them, but lets be real, kids'll buy anything. The amount of "movie" transformers I got that never actually showed up in the movies at all was nuts, just cause I thought they looked cool. Edit: What I really don't get is if Hasbro were willing to have human characters, prominent human villains, and other characters that just never got toys, why couldn't the writers have done things like beast characters and combiners? Ignoring that Blackarachnia and Waspinator got figures (I think Waspinator got one anyway) they could have done these beast characters and combiners and Hasbro wouldn't _have_ to make figures for them if they didn't want to.
I will always be someone who grew up with the Aligned Continuity and Prime in particular so naturally I have my more biased moments. But man alive can I appreciate everything about what came right before it. In a sense Animated really did sacrifice itself for what would become a great show and one of the most memorable eras from Transformers with Prime. So it's fitting just how different they were and yet how much animated contributed to many shows and media going forward. And while I'll never wish to have trade Prime for Animated season 4 and feel a bit hurt for those of you who do, I certainly don't blame you because animated was different. It felt different, it wasn't like anything else that came before it. And we've never seen anything like it ever again. And sadly we probably never will. But then again if there's anything I learned from Prime and the Aligned Continuity it's that there is always a capacity for change. We might not always like it. And it won't come without sacrifice. And no one is ever really ready for it. But the way we adapt and respond to said change has the potential to make our lives more amazing than we could ever imagine. This show certainly changed the Transformers Franchise forever. But what's important is that we continue to change long after it stopped. And now we all can transform our lives, each other, and our world in whatever way we so choose. And make our lives a little brighter and animated. Here's to Earthspark and some other future Continuity someday finishing what Animated started. I don't think we'll be disapointed.
I loved that everything DJT touched turned into the best iteration of that franchise (Teen Titans, Transformers, Ben 10, Scooby-Doo), we really lost a legend man.
@kyle the fan Ehhhh, how involved was he in that anyway? I actually like LOSH over TT because it was more consistently good whereas TT had some real stinkers, but as a whole it wasn't anything to write home about.
@kyle the fan Well it was definitely the best portrayal of the Legion but that's not a hard bar when they barely pop up lol. Don't remember if he did much writing for Scooby-Doo or TT but it's still funny how just doing designs for those shows seemed to magically made them good.

I saw the 3 videos that on RU-vid that showed the first 3 episodes with the dialogue but the actors had no filter on. It was weird to hear some of the actors voices without the filters. Sentinel sounded the most normal without a filter.
I think all of these episodes would be incredible stories. Yeah, some of them seem pretty stupid, but I think they can work. I wouldn't even mind if Megatron took a back seat and let Blackarachnia and the Predacons as the villains. Regardless, I wish TF animated got a 4th season. All of these ideas I'd love to see.
I want to thank all the people who worked on the TFA, because thanks to that series today I`m a fan of "transformers" and in it`s time it helped me cope with a difficult moment in my life. I will always carry this show in my heart 😢😭
A mix of the Armada, Energon and power master prime designs would be neat. Or a more Cybertron style design with power master elements would also work. Also I'd love more multipurpose tools like plasma torches and bolt guns for autobots to use. Give the heroes more tools for the job. Also a reveal I thought of for Sari is that she's technically a pretender and is the Transformers Animated version of Transmutate.
Can you do a similar thing by interviewing Frank Angones and others on every unused or planned episode ideas as well as the backup Season 4 ideas for Ducktales like who would've been the villain, who would've been the focus, and what the theme and plot would've been.

Seeing the thumbnail, that is one big head/helmet for Optimus. I do recall seeing TFA on the early days of RU-vid, and have become a fan of transformers into my adult years.
Honestly i think that derick would want tfa to come back he put his soul into it and to see it go on would make him happy i hope it comes back before its too late..
