As an animator/someone currently studying animation, I can pretty confidently say that most of these issues probably come from the layering. The characters are likely built as puppets, with each element of their design existing on a separate layer (think of it like several pieces of paper, where the body is on one sheet of paper, or a layer, the spots are all on different layers, the limbs on other layers etc etc) which all work together to create an animatable character. These layers can occasionally clip through another layer, get hidden for a frame by mistake, be accidentally misplaced, or get corrupted in the rendering process, as well as other similar things, which I think would lead to a lot of the errors shown here. I'm not 100% certain this is the case, especially since I'm more of a 3D animator than a 2D animator, but this is my best guess from my personal experience. If anyone has anything to add I'd be interested to hear it :)
At 7:58 it’s actually a really common thing in animation to not animate a movement fully, (for this example Bandit going under water) the animators shift the image that’s moving just a bit, and then they draw the next, completely different pose, that irl would have more movement in between. I often do this, I animated a hand going from one pose to another, but the person arm also moved with the hand pose change, so instead of animating the hand to spin to the correct position, I just drew the hand in the current position and the next position and moved the frames around a bit, making a somewhat smooth animation
So for some of these, the weird distortions that you might see while a character is in motion is known as a “smear frame”. When you’re doing 2d animation, you have to figure out how to make it look like there’s physics in your work. Often in between animators will create a weird frame or two when an action they are animating is very swift and fast, which, when your eye sees it, helps to create a smoother, more appealing, and bouncy looking action. You can find smear frames everywhere in animation, 2d and 3d alike. One of the most important things you learn when beginning to animate for the first time is that trying to make whatever you’re drawing abide by normal laws of physics makes it look bad, generally, as crazy as that sounds. Smear frames are just one example of how we artists will trick your eyes into thinking that all is well. Seriously, go find a clip of some well known 2d animated film and go through frame by frame. Thanks for coming to my TED talk :)
5:04 this was likely done to represent a different character many shows do that to save on the budget so they don't have to make completely new characters for the background
Although i LOVE bluey here’s something that’ll probably make your day. I was entering math class when I noticed something blue on my teachers’ desk, I walk up to him and ask, “what’s that blue figure you got on your desk?” To which he replied, “Oh! You know bluey?” “Yes.” “So, my daughter just adores the show, My wife had bought her a set that included some characters from the show”. “Ohh, what character?” “She loves the bluey one, though she thought i was lonely without her at work, so she ended up giving me the figure to put on my desk.” [ after math class was over my emotional side went- : 🥺😭🤧✨
I love spotting animation errors, it's like one of my favorite things to do while watching cartoons. Also most of the errors in the show I didn't know existed until now. I mean, Bandit without his black mask was way too obvious...
2:25 Ive studied the pilots quite a bit and the pilot design for Chilli is actually inconsistent, how she appears in the 1 minute clip that was released appears to be a mistake (that was fixed in the final edit), since there is an image for 2016 that has a design that has the brown fur (referred to by fans as "the glitchy fur")
That cool, but like money do you? Well yes you do, well like and subscribe to join free gift card giveaway, notifications on and ready to play football now,
6:38 , Bandit is not only missing the light blue stripe but the line connecting his (only visible) foot to his leg is, well not connected haha :D *Please tell me if you noticed this :D*
I’ll probably change the thumbnail but where I live it’s past 1 am, I’m exhausted, and I got stuff to do tomorrow at 8, so please cut me some slack until later 💀💀💀.
1:08: Bandit looks like the Blue Dog incarnation of Big Bird. The contrast in his eyelid colour from the colour of his fur definitely looks akin to the muppet.
Your Bluey content is so enjoyable and entertaining to watch. I especially like how you put the figurines in different places outdoors as a background for the video.
As a inspiring animator, I totally get these mistake especially the whole inconsistency of character fur, I remember animating this animal crossing animation and I had to animate this crocodile who basically had yellow camo pattern as their skin. It was a pain to make every layer for each blob and colour and layering them all correct because I was a idiot and didn’t realize which slowly drain me of life as I hit 6 hours of me working on this project
My channel is about Bluey edits but my dad already made some that we’re not Bluey edit’s But please subscribe because I only have one Subscriber and I only know how to edit music Not weird edit’s
Me and my cousins noticed a design change with Mackenzie's mum. In Curry Quest, she has brown over both of her eyes and a white nose brindle, but in Spy Game, she has brown over only one of her eyes.
Hiya there! So while you were talking about the Bluey cards around 10:11 i actually found an animation goof in the prototype video of Bluey bandit. It seems pretty common for the prototype (for obvious reasons) but for a split second you can see bandits black patch on the wrong side if you slow down the video. anyway, I just thought I would point it out since it's a video of goofs. Have a nice day/night!
Here’s some I found: In the Pilot, when Bandit turns around, when bingo is telling him how many games she wants to play, his black patch goes on the other side. And in Bingo, when Chilli asks him a question of a problem for bingo, his light Blue under his black patch slips in a part of it when he turns right (left for us.) In honk, when socks is running to the cabana, her dark-blue / purplish-blue is covering her light blue. As you can see the light blue when she stops running. And in Tea Party, when Daisy tells Bluey not to ask Marcus for sugar packets, her white that goes in between her eyes go up to the top of her head. In butterflies, when bingo is sadly flapping back to the soft swing, whatever.. it is, her cream in between her dark orange, her cream is colored light orange. And also in Bob Bilby, after bingo getting off of bandit of him pretending to be a cow, the same occurrence as in Bingo happened in this episode, his light Blue was covering the exact same part and amount of light blue is covering his black patch as in Bingo. In Sleepytime, after Chilli fills her water for Bluey, she has more gray hairs than usual. In Zoo, there’s actually 2: When Bluey tells bandit that he has to be something special, Chillis brown patch can’t be seen. And when Chilli sees that bingo (or snowdrop) is in the baboon cage, when they’re running towards it, this goof looks very similar to the one in butterflies: Chillis cream stripe that runs through her eyes is missing. In Backpackers, when Chilli has Muffin and Socks on her feet pretending that they’re hiking boots, Muffins patches on her head are on the opposite side. In Chickenrat, when bingo opens the closet door trying to turn Bandit into a chickenrat, her spot on her back is missing. In The Weekend, there’s 3: The first one is when Bingo wants to ring the doorbell, Bluey comes to help her. But, when she looks at Bluey, her cream on her head is wider than it should be. And the 2nd one is the 2 last scenes of the episode: In the 2nd to last scene, bingos B on her bed is in lowercase, but in the next, or last scene, the B is uppercase. And then this is one I noticed when watching DisneyDude1928s YTP, at the end of the episode, when Bandit comes into the room, when Chilli looks at him, some of her left pupil (right for us), it’s kind of out of her eye. For like a split second, in Barky Boats, when Bluey asks Mia if they can build a fairy garden, her light blue going down the middle of her head slips on top of some of her outline on her right eye (left for us). In Horsey Ride, when bingo eats Bluey like a watermelon…. Oh boy how long is this Gonna go for… the same occurrence happened in Bob Bilby and Bingo.. HOLY CRAP I SAID STOP THESE GOOFS ALREADY, In Daddy Robot, when bandit is doing that, you know, weird walk, the same thing happened again…. Jesus I’m just gonna stop pointing out those kind of goofs it’s getting old In Daddy Dropoff, when Chilli walks out, Bluey says “See ya Mum”, Bingos mouth copies the exact same way Bluey said it, but you can’t hear anything coming out of bingos mouth. In Circus, when Honey runs away because Mackenzie swept the leaf off her nose, after Coco does 2 cartwheels, her eyebrows are missing. In Charades and Escape, the picture of the cousins in Nana’s house, Bingos, I don’t know how to say this, eye part when they blink is cream instead of the orangeish-red. In The Sleepover, when the girls are running away from Chilli going to put muffin in her sleepover sack thing, the same thing from backpackers happens. In Phones, there’s also 2: The first one is when Grandad asks if apps can do anything you control them to do, when bingo turns around looking at him, we can’t see her right dark brown patch (left for us). The second one is, a few seconds before Bluey grabs the crocodile, something similar to the goof in Barky Boats happens: Near the bottom of her left dark blue patch (right for us), some of here light blue sits on top of her dark blue just for a split second. In Bumpy and the Wise Old Wolfhound, the first time Muffins chef hat falls down on her when everybody’s bowing, for about a second and a half, her left eye (right for us), her eye slips on top of the chef hat, while the other one doesn’t. Well, apparently I have to say this again, because apparently ludo loves to make these kind of goofs, but in Curry Quest, just before Bandit and Bingo turn their heads to the magpie with that creepy looking face, the same freaking goof from the 4 episodes happened again on Bandit… In Blue Mountains, when Bluey slides down Bandits knee, her arm just, ends in the top right corner of the screen, just for half a second. Which, of course honestly looks bloody terrifying…. In Green Bottles, the 8th green bottle bingo kicks off the porch (the one closest one the the steps), when she kicks the 6th green bottle off the porch, it’s not visible. But when she kicks the 5th one, it’s visible. In Sheepdog, bandits pink bow thing on his tail disappears in the close up scene of him when Wendy demands him to drop it.
(3:38) "I mean, without that coat, he's not a Bandit, he's just… a dog, I guess" WHOAAAAAAAAA 😳 Also, I never thought there'd be stock footage of Bluey toys looking out at a beach.
wow some of those were really creepy, i've seen that show a few times and i've never noticed those goofs before so i'm glad somebody has pointed them out.
A goof I just noticed while watching the video is in the beginning of the pilot clip, Bluey’s back leg is on top of her front one when walking up to Bandit!
In Spygame there's a goof with Chloe and Honey being the guards When bluey convinced bingo to go and get more grass both Chloe and Honey are in just one position and a frame later they're in guard position
i looked to see those bugs and i was shocked i showed my dad because we love bluey and he was also shocked those people who found those bugs great job.
In the weekend, you can tell there’s something a bit weird about the children. Look closely at Bluey and Bingo’s limbs, and they appear to be longer than they are usually. Also, in the carnival episode when Mackenzie is being spun around, pause it and she looks like a blur
My brother notice in the episode spy’s that when bandit went to take bingo to the restroom and was waiting for her to finish you, can see that when the first time they try the there spell on there parents bandit is back cooking on the grill. Then when bluey goes to talk to bandit he is right back at the restroom. Does this mean he left bingo alone at the restroom
Here's something weird I found in the episode "The Weakened" when Bingo and bluey are on top of bandit some weird stuff happens with bingo's legs and arms
the one on 7:57 wasnt an animation error but rather an animation technique. since he jumped n fell so quickly into the water, itll only make sense for the animators to jump straight into the water splash rather than show Bandit's model all the way
Oddly, the cell animated cartoons don't even have as many errors as some of the newer ones. I'm used to watching a lot of cartoons, a lot of them, most people have never heard of. Everything from Nickelodeon, to 2000s-2010s Disney/Disney junior, even the Qubo channel (which had a lot of shows from UK, Canada, and other countries). There's this show I love called Scaredy Squirrel, and Idk if it's just because I watch the show so much, but I pointed out a few animation goofs in it. Scaredy Squirrel is a Canadian show by Nelvana, based off a book series and I can't think of a a lot of animation goofs in those shows. Scaredy Squirrel and Bluey are both amazing shows and just because they have animation goofs, doesn't mean that the animation is bad. Look at Disney's Frozen! There were a lot of goofs in Frozen Also LOL Bandit at 3:36
Actually noticed this earlier today, and thought it was weird you accidentally included it without realizing! @2:55 (in your video) - Bingo's chair in BBQ, the left leg is in front of the seat when it should be behind, like it is in an earlier frame in the episode. Like some weird optical illusion. Not seen it mentioned before.
@@realflow100 I just saw something looked off about it when I was watching the episode xD went back and stared for a moment and then noticed it was the chair
I've gotten a couple comments mentioning that couple of these frames are "smear frames" which are frames used to make animation smoother, often by distorting things such as faces. I included some of these in this video as some have pointed out and yea, they technically aren't errors since they're intentional, but I just wanted to mention that. I might do a video covering smear/weird frames though in the future, since those are honestly pretty crazy in themselves lol. Shoutout Off the Leash Pup Liberty for suggesting some of the goods in this video, as well as everyone else who helped out. Also, here’s the link to their video on the topic: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K2LP9VDu8ls.html
I don't know if anyone else has pointed this out but there's one more in "Dance Mode" When Bandit is in line at the post office trying to get the address changed on his ID, there's a trippy placement mistake coming from the grey hound standing in line behind him. Watch the letter she's holding very carefully.
I don’t know why there’s so many animation errors and censoring in Bluey, what is going on, the errors are even worse than any other show that has animation errors and I don’t like how Bandit has no black thing, I see the errors sometime on TV, and I bet everyone sees the errors on TV as well but I don’t know why this show has errors, I just don’t know why, but they have to fix all of the problems.
The type of animation in bluey has a lot of layers to manage. The eyes, ears, mouth, fur patterns, backgrounds, props are all different layers. Also it's hard to spot something that happens in a single frame XP
@@TSQNYEArchive673 It's not easy making a show. EVERY show has animation errors it's easy to miss a mistake when you have to make sure everything in the show and when I say everything I mean every second theres a movement, every shadow every light is right in every second. And you have to do all this while working on other episodes as well! It's not easy
I got these ceramic "paint yourself" statues once and the box says muffin, the golden retriever next door and Bluey, but the actual statues inside are fine all but Muffin who is clearly just Bingo lol. It bummed me out a lil' i wanted muffin the most lol
As a hardcore fan of animation, I can say that most of these aren't goofs. In animation, some shots can look unclean or odd. The animators will try and mess around for a bit and even if it looks odd, it can really polish the scene and give it a better look.
Have you seen bluey season 3? In a season 3 episode called pizza girls, there is another goof that when they are playing with mud, bingo’s hands are muddy but bluey’s hands are clean even though they are both playing with mud
It's an interesting video, thanks! As I can see, even animators can't also spot all mistakes and fix them, because, you know, their eyes are already in bad condition after rewatching same content 1000 times when you are creating that. I wonder if some mistakes was fixed and updated, or not?
