The scene where Powder is screaming with spit coming out of her mouth I just noticed that her left hand is actually pulling on her shirt. And then a few scenes later she’s hitting herself, they not only captured the essence of a child freaking out and crying but also showing ways of how the human body reacts to stress and agony. It reminds me of when I was a kid and whenever I would freak out I wasn’t too sure what to do and how to react physically. They captured that really well! I’m very impressed :)
They're really good at showing emotions in general but I think they EXCELS in showing stress and sadness. So many types of stress and sadness in the show, and it's so detail you can see the variant by the eyes. There's this one scene where Vi didn't include her in saving Vander and Powder wasn't just crying. She's having a full on mental breakdown, and you can FEEL everything. The sadness, the stress, the doubt, the insecurity coming to the surface and it's fucking amazing. The frantic changes of angle, the wild expression, the kicking and the grabbing, the scream in agony. Amazing. When I'm watching that that scene I was like "Look, here, Miss Powder. You need to stop that cuz I'm stressed too now."
that scene really emphasized how intelligent the animation team is, willing to put forth the time and effort into important details that most wouldn’t bother doing
As an animation student myself living in France, I have a friend who's partner works in Fortiche, and I learnt that Fortiche made the whole music video in two weeks :') I'm beyond impressed by how much they achieved with such a short deadline!
I think it's because arcane is already done and almost all the assets are from arcane and they just need to add more specially on ID and JID parts. Still that's too fast
Didnt even realize it but aside from the more in depth relationship shown with Powder and Ekko, the scene of young Vi showing off her punches actually shows that all the kids knew each other and were split between "good" and "evil", the kids who sided with Silco on the right, Ekko and the kid behind him became firelights, you can see the kid in the back in the mural of episode 7
The animation is so goooooood! If you analyse more scenes from the show I would love to see your opinion on the Ekko fight with Jinx. It is really stylish!
I love how they are straight up studying from the show. It shows their hard work, dedication and passion for what they do. I wanted to be an animator as a kid but my parents never put me in art classes or anything similar, and now as a 30 y/o its an impossible dream.
I know it's easier to say than done, but the concept of late is something that society creates. Some probably will judge you for studying later than them, but learning early just gives you a certain degree of advantage. At the end the quality and improvement matters the most. If you're more passionate and doing better than them, who cares if you're 30 or 60. They'll still gonna hire you. So if you have the will, you can always do it mate, even with cheapest equipment. Don't give up. If you want, of course.
If you start now, if you decide to pursue it, by the time you reach 50 you'll have been doing it for 20 years. By the time you retire you'd have been doing it 30-40 years. That's likely more experience than a lot of the animators who worked on Arcane. You have so much time.
One thing I liked but wasnt (really) mentioned, were the moments where they would "replace" powder with jinx, starting with the moment when the bug leaves her mouth (it was for about half a second?) and after that jinx starts appearing for longer periods each time.
Also that bug represents the fire lights which (spoilers ahead) Are a group who are against Silco and represent hope in the series with the tree found in Act 3.
One thing I loved about the music video was the flashing of Jinx and Powder. If you haven’t watched the series it’s heavily hinted at that Jinx has some mental illness similar to Schizophrenia. Often in the show you’ll see flashing and glitches in the animation whenever it’s showing Jinx’s POV. Especially during her mental breakdowns the camera will get shaky or you’ll see her dead friends who’s voices she hears. Like scenes where the voices are talking to her you’ll see the ghosts of those voices lingering around her. Like she’s never alone and throughout the series the more her mental instability grows the more clear the ghosts and voices become. Up until the last episode where instead of hearing her dead friends voices she hears Silco’s voicing whispering “we’ll show them all”
The breakdown of the animation techniques used for the different punches was so cool, and it made a lot of sense - I didn't notice when I was watching the music video, but my brain did

As a HSLU alumnus it's awesome to see HSLU students producing content on YT. Nice work y'all!
I love seeing other artist react to this stuff. No one I know has seen arcane or is into animation like I am, so when you guys are pointing out things i'm over here like " That's what I've been saying"!
Everything Jinx is animated amazingly! EVERY MOVEMENT, subtle or exaggerated! Down to the eye shift or wobble. I’m blown away! This series is the most inspiring animation of all time!
I love the bug scene, Powder doing the finger gun. The part where Jinx is there and the enforcers fall and then it's Powder. I look forward to those every time I watch it. And yes! The ugly cries or facial expressions are my favorite part of the series.
I read/watch One Piece and the author once talked about why he draws everyone ugly when they cry with fluids coming out of the mouth, the nose, the eyes with distorted facial features and how there is no such thing as "pretty crying" in reality. It just shows so much raw emotion. So when I see ugly crying in other stories like in arcane I am always impressed and share the pain, but when I see "pretty crying" in other animations and drawings I don't feel anything and only think "yepp, that isn't realistic at all"
I love the idea of how Powder's shadow reflects her "messed up-ness". While she was beating on her head the body part of her shadow is normal but the head part is literally messed up. It really shows (and didn't tell) to an extreme how her desperation and agony transform her mental space.
@ 15:04 is my favorite bit in the music vid because its the same shot but her face changes the vibe so much ... powder looks scared and like shes hiding from something or someone scary where as a few frames later jinx lookslike shes hiding but she is the scary something or someone lurking in the shadows waiting and observing her prey for the perfect moment to strike and they convey all of that in like 5 seconds
ALSO i think people have noticed this but Vi has more stable punches while Powder is punching hard, but not as stable as her big sister. this may be foreshadowing her mental and emotional state in the show.
Whoever weight painted and key animated on this project, I hope they got the credits and a big paycheck. No way in hell would I animate this without mo-cap... Perfection 10/10!
wondering what these students are feeling after the entire series is out. I was blown away and so excited for the next season. SPOILER.... I loved the Ekko vs Jinx on the bridge. It's so highly stylized and the song plays to the childhood memory but the actual scene is void of any music, it only has fx sound adding the realism. It's by far, one of the best thought out scenes in Arcane. (Scene: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OkscEokV238.html)
I think that the part where Vi show how to punch to her friends is is highly inspired by the clip "the blaze - territory" (a popular electro french group) at 2:52 if u guys want to check.
while it's a bit of an older film at this point, I think the opening yellow line race from the film Redline(2009) would be a great animation to see a reaction for. It is the movie that nearly bankrupted Madhouse who took seven years to make it.
I didnt like the intro at first but since Arcane is so good, my like also transferred to the song haha I wish you animators the best. Do what you love to do!
Remember watching the end of part one and just saying don't do it, and then saying forgive her...don't do this, your gonna break her...don't...oooooohhhh...well there goes the happy ending for this show.
I hope you guys go back through some of the scenes from the show as it helps put into words exactly why they feel so good to watch. Ekko vs Jinx, the flare scene, Jinx being revived, any of the Vi fights, the sex scene lmao
*spoiler* A breakdown of the animation of the Ekko vs Jinx fight would be so cool, it's my favorite scene in the entire show, the 2nd being the moment Jinx shoot a giant rocket at the end of the serie but it last less longer
oh i see where you are comming from, his style was defenitely the pushing off point for spiderverse. but the render style of spiderverse looks a bit different from his other 3d work i feel like, no ? :D
At 15:30 I had always thought it was the other way around based on the raw physics that light travels faster than sound. But is it due to brain processing speeds for the 2 different senses.
spoiler warning: are you guys planning on looking at the ekko vs jinx in ep7 i'm really curious about what you guys think about the animation and the parallelism with the story-telling
@@AniValleyReacts As long as you do it in snippets it should be fine I guess. Maybe if you just do the analyzing parts of it. But maybe you could just try one first and see if it gets claimed.
I love this video so much.If you don't mind,I would like to ask your permission to share this video to the other website in China for the embarrassing reason that RU-vid is blocked from accessing in China.Of course, I will give sources of the original website.Thank you very much.
i see often.. spidervers... i think spiderverse seeing riot videos and makle it better and maybe "riot" see this and and make the next step. this france studio... is not next gen is beyound this.
Hmm I just saw sir wade debunk that lip sync at a couple frames earlier myth. Now im wondering if it's true. Makes sense when you explained that. But he made sense too lol
I've been using the 2 frames offset for 2d rigs where it has limited mouth shapes (At my work, I can't add more and have to use what the rig offers. It's faster work that way anyway) And it works smoother than when I haven't offset the keyframes. I saw comments in his video where people mention Quicktime being the culprit of the audio and video being off timing, thus making it a bad app for previewing the lip sync. But when I check my work on any other video player, it still feels better and is much more readable regardless. It may be a safety net, but it's one net that consistently works to the point that we even see big companies use it. Makes more sense to me since mouths do work in the same way where we make the shape before the sound itself hahah
4:23 so fucking do I, if ONLY the writers weren't so focused on the (amazing but come on) ships. Like come oooon. Stop with the shipping for two secs and write more about Powder and Ekko and Mylo and Claggor and Vander and Silco and Vi and just ... Everything !!
