A lot of people misunderstand Cinderella as a Gold Digger who went to the ball to get a Prince but the big misunderstanding is she just wanted ONE PERFECT NIGHT where she wasn't a servant or a step daughter. She wanted one sparkling beautiful night away from her home. She wasn't even looking for the Prince when she arrived at the Ball she was just in awe of everything and when she leaves she says "Oh I- I haven't met the Prince!" meaning she had no idea she was with the Prince the entire night! And the fact that she was so thankful for that one night and the Glass Slipper was proof of her happiness was all that she needed. Just one beautiful memory that could never be tarnished to continue her life with.

Also people saying that she needed a man to get out of her family situation and couldn't save herself - they have no idea what it's like to be abused since childhood and also that back then, there was no life outside of family: you either married into a family or stayed in the one you were born in. It was rare for a husband to live in his wife's family. Those were the times, women outside a family struggled more with survival

It's more than Cinderella just wanting to party, the heart of the story how her persistent goodness brought her before the prince. That even the animals and a fairy godmother worked for her good to escape her mother.
@Alphasnowbordergirl

Not to mention, she managed to keep positive despite her abusive upbringing, and unlike the remake, she did try to get out of her tower asking the mice to get the dog and everything to get out, she didn't just dance around. The remake tried to make her strong, but made her seem weaker. This old cinderella was trapped and could not leave by choice and was conditioned as a child to obey while the new one she can leave whenever she wanted, but never did until literally a prince came to get her.

You have modern Disney to thank for f*cking up the visuals of this film with their "restoration" ... They edited it sooo much that the color pallet is heavily altered from it's original,and a lot of line work ,shadows as well as sfx are gone in the restored versions ... THANKS A LOT DISNEY !? A lot of the hard wok of those people went strait to the garbage bin ... I wish modern films were as beautiful and creative as those back in the day ... Films back then are objectively better than today's pile of over produced trash

Studio Ghibli was founded in 1985, Disney's Snow White was created in 1937. Miyazaki was inspired by the Disney classics, but he wasn't really into the whole romantic princess thing and wanted to focus on the blooming independence of a child growing up as a regular kid. Regular folk in an irregular world.

Fact that I kinda cried over when I first found out was there was a song written and recorded for the film (but was cut) called “The Dress That My Mother Wore” which basically told us that her mother’s dress that she was planning on wearing to the ball (before her stepsisters destroyed it) was actually her mother’s wedding dress.

Another great reaction. I look forward to every time James says, "So yeah." 😂 I really really love this film. I love all of the characters. This Cinderella gets a really bad rap nowadays but she is one of my favorites. She had a very abusive upbringing but remains hopeful and kind to others. Despite popular belief she wasn't "waiting around" for a prince. She wanted a night out and took the initiative ro even tell her stepmother she should go. She didn't even know the man she danced with was the prince until the next day. I enjoy how much the sound and music enhances the movements within the film.

Not to mention that as you mentioned this is old school animation and there's this sense of awe and respect just from knowing how old these films are and what they were able to accomplish without our technical advances of today.

One thing I love about the animation is the scene where the sisters rip up the dress. The colours progressively get both darker and change to red tints, before promptly snapping back when Tremaine speaks. Probably why it's so intense despite the action itself being so simple! Also someone had to draw and animate the sister's butts when they walk in their own dresses :p

The Narrator at the beginning is Betty Lou Gerson who would later do Cruella de Vil (and Mrs. Birdwell) in One Hundred and One Dalmatians. Such a contrast between her two voice roles (though Cruella does possess some eccentric charms in a couple of scenes, especially the beginning, she is mean and cruel).

To save time and money (this was another big gamble after Pinocchio, Fantasia and Bambi failed at the box office, World War II happened and Disney studio had to make package films, shorts and live action films such as The Song of the South and So Dear To My Heart to recover from the losses, if Cinderella failed that could be the end of the studio, thankfully it was a success) the human characters were mostly rotoscoped while the animals were animated without any aid of rotoscoping.

I believe Cinderella's dress change was Walts favourite piece of animation. Another thing I heard is the song bit "sweet nightingale" with Cinderella, the singer harmonized with herself to achieve the layered effect. As for you question of Disney and ghibli. Disney was first and I heard once that I think it was studio ghibli was inspired by western animation.

@resurrectionevil6581
@resurrectionevil6581 2 года назад
@@whitenoisereacts they might have played off each other at one point or another, but I don't think so. Disney has a pretty (patent?) Animation style and approach to the whole process and is very different when compared to Eastern animation. The character designs and facial movements being a big one. Something also interesting is the rotoscoping. It's used a lot in this film but used tactfully. Cinderella, lady Termane and the prince are heavily rotoscoped but it fits their characters personalities while the more goofy characters like the step sisters and the king are full out animated from scratch to emphasize their animated personalities lol. Please consider (if you already havent) watch Tarzan I think it came out in 1998 or 99. Amazing use of 3d backgrounds and amazing animation. And fun fact! My professor in backgrounds did most of the backgrounds for that movie. Her work is amazing .

A lot of the background would actually be matte paintings on glass panels and mounted on a rig in layers. they would them move the camera down through the rig while sliding the paintings out of the way to give the scene a sense of depth and movement. Walt Disney was always looking into new techniques and technology to give his projects as much life as possible. He and his animators would use the Micky Mouse and Silly Symphony shorts to try new ideas for later use on his feature length films.

The voices for Jaques and Gus (and Bruno the dog) are done by Disney Sound man Jimmy MacDonald who did a lot of voices including taking over Mickey Mouse from Walt Disney because of he got too busy (plus his voice was destroyed by smoking, he did smoke a lot even if he didn't do it in front of his staff, it also caused the lung cancer that killed him in 1966), The Dormouse in Alice in Wonderland, Lumpjaw in Fun and Fancyfree, Humprey the Bear in several cartoons, some of the howling dogs in Lady and the Tramp (along with The Mellomen), some vocal effects for Dopey including hiccuping and sobbing in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Wolf in The Sword in the Stone and the hyena in Bedknobs and Broomsticks, as well as Evenrude in The Rescuers (you can also see him as a timpani player in Fantasia and in The Releuctant Dragon, doing the boat horn effects during the recording session of the Casey Jr. scene).

For shots with camera moves and background layers, they had a technique called The Multiplane Camera, where a camera is hung over several panels with different foreground elements and a background, and you moved the different foreground/background elements in different speeds (best examples are the town in the morning sequence in Pinocchio or when you go through the forest at the start of Bambi) or when you want to zoom in the camera on a moon in the sky and you pass trees, hills and a farmhouse to make it look more real instead of zooming in on a painting, demonstrated in a behind the scenes documentary presented by Walt Disney for Disneyland/World of Color TV programs of the 50s and 60s.
@oliverbrownlow5615
@oliverbrownlow5615 Год назад
The Multiplane Camera was invented in 1933 by Disney collaberator and Mickey Mouse co-creator Ub Iwerks, at a time when Iwerks was running his own independent animation studio. Early multiplane work can be seen in his Comicolor cartoons (some of which are based on stories Disney would later animate, like "The Headless Horseman" and "Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp"). After Iwerks' return to Disney, later in the decade, the Multiplane Camera was further refined by William Garity for use in *Snow White* and other planned feature films. Disney tested it out in the Academy Award winning *Silly Symphony* short, "The Old Mill" (1937).

I know this isn't about the movie, but the one version of this story from the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales was much bloodier. The stepsisters had parts of their feet cut off to try to fit into the slipper, and after Cinderella was identified, her bird friends pecked out the stepsisters' eyes. Also, that willow tree that she cries at before Fairy Godmother appears grew from the remains of her mother.

I just gotta say - as an Adoptee, I hate the use of the word Step "Mom", or Step "Parent" to describe a relationship like the one Cinderella has with the woman her father married. It disguises the fact that there's no biological relationship, & that Cinderella was orphaned. Not talking about Disney, or the reactors watching, or holding any one entity responsible. I'm just talking about a concept, that I view as harmful. I was adopted into a very abusive family after losing my mother, & being legally separated from my Twin Brother, & 4 other siblings. I was brainwashed into viewing perfect strangers as family. I was 4 years old when I was adopted by them. I would get scared & cry every time they told me it was bath time, & time to get ready for bed. I got harshly shamed & punished for it, instead of recognizing, I was a highly traumatized child. Years later as an adult, I realized that they expected me to be comfortable around them naked, because they were my "legal" family now. But in reality, they were absolute strangers. Things need to change. Adoption & Guardianships need to be ethical, & take trauma into account, & provide counseling. And "fake" relationships, need to not be encouraged or forced on unsuspecting children. I don't know exactly what changes need to be made, or exactly what needs to happen, for those changes to be made, but it's high time for it to happen. Sorry for the rant. But that's my perspective on the dynamics of the Cinderella story....Other than that, I love the story, & among other things, it helped give me strength to endure, until I was free.

Nah, Ghibli isn't as old as Disney XD What is usually counted as Ghiblis first movie, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, came out in 1984. Of course, both Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata (who founded Ghibli) did make and work on some movies before they founded Ghibli, but they came way later than Disney, and was never really as big as Disney either. I believe I heard somewhere that Miyazaki apparently admired Disneys technical aspects with their animation, but found their stories too lacking, which is why Ghibli movies usually don't have as clear-cut endings, because we as humans aren't that easy to understand. Also, I adore this movie and feel like it gets way too much of a bad rap, so I'm glad you guys enjoyed it! :D

The best part of the Cinderella movie that these guys cut out is when Cinderella says " Oh I understand but, it's more than I ever hoped for!" Then the fairy godmother says "Bless you my child." That exchange is the ABSOLUTE best part of the whole movie and parallels perfectly when the spell is broken. Cinderella just looks up and says "Thank You, thank you for everything." A sweet girl deserving of one night, one 1/2 of a night really where having courage and being kind really pays off and matters.

Snow white is the first known full length animated film. So i think Disney may have been doing it longer than Studio Ghibli. I don't know for sure though.

I love this movie. It's sweet. Weird, because what was she on? Lol. Ninetailbrush I would love to get your take on the animated movie Anastasia. What they do with the jewelry in that movie is crazy. It sparkles like real jewelry would sparkle. Plus it's a damned-good movie.🙂👍

I know you’ve mentioned Snow White on your Princess reaction but will you ever react to it. Being the iconic 1st princess in all. I like your reactions

You should check out the movie "Ever After" from 1998. It's a live action Cinderella w Drew Barrymore. Beautifully done IMO.

If you want to check out older animation and a bunch of different styles all-in-one movie you should watch the original Fantasia. It's just a bunch of little shorts by different creators.

Not to mention it was 10 years before this one.

Yes, watch Snow White. And Sleeping Beauty. And Bambi. And Pinnochio. And Ichabod and Mr Toad (so far only 2 reactors have done that movie - and it's one of the adaptions of 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' that keeps the characterisations of the original story, ie Katrina van Tassel is a rich coquette, Brom Bones is arrogant and a show off but is basically ok personality wise (thoughtless at times with his pranks but generally more mischievous rather than malicious), and Ichabod Crane is seen as a well-travelled, educated and cultured man but is also a vain and selfish gold-digger with a massive ego. And 101 Dalmations (animated version as well as the 2 Glenn Close movies), The Aristocats, Lady and the Tramp, the Rescuers, Alice In Wonderland, Peter Pan, Robin Hood, The Sword in the Stone. Anyone have any other ideas?

A lot of the backgrounds were painted on glass that moved with the animation.

Another great 1950s animation would be Peter Pan and if you want to you can watch it sequel in 2000 Peter Pan Return to Neverland to compare the animation styles. But another great movie is Pete’s Dragon the original 1950s I believe. One of the characters is played by the same guy who played Kenickie in Grease. And there’s some animation involved in a live action setting. In a weird way it reminds me of the BBC adaption of the Chronicles of Narnia because they do something similar where it’s all live action yet you see some animation be done in it.

I always sing Disney sons to my pets and feel like Cinderella; poor pets… a literal captive audience. 😅 Fortunately, I’m a good singer, like Cinderella; unlike her stepsisters during their uh… “music” lesson. 😏

Please watch Sleeping Beauty next if you can. I really think it's the best from the classic Disney era.
