Too be fair, not being told the whole story when you are volunteering to give your life to save the world is on a whole other level than being in the dark about warehouse management.

Or the part about not being told you're giving your location away to your enemy too. That's pretty much the same thing as carrying an unstable bomb that can explode on impact and not telling them it's a fucking bomb.

Ok, no. They signed up to be huntresses, which is litteraly fighting until death or retirement to an unending threat that are the Grimm and that will target them because of their aura. There is virtually no differences between their conflict with Salem, and the conflict of the huntsmen with the grimms as a whole.

6:09 i mean real world racism makes no actual sense either- of all the issues i have with the faunus stuff I actually really like that they had something like it in a world where there are evil death monsters attracted to hatred and negativity. Cuz even in our own real world lot’s of people are so insane they fight for things out of bigotry that also harm themselves COUGHCOUGHterfsCOUFHCOUGH So it doesn’t make sense but it’s lack of sense is at least unfortunately realistic Edit: additionally your comment on Tauradonna being the couple in hs everyone hated made me realize that they’re also basically just the discord mod and his discord kitten memes, thanks i hate it 😭☠️

Just a thought but what if besides someone else doing it..... what if "destroy" means something else? Like instead of physically destroying, it's more about the mental? Just a thought. It could also mean that the point isn't to destroy, but rehab. It'd be nearly impossible to reason with Salem considering how long she's lived but maybe the goal is to "destroy" her guard and let her see the good in the world.

I legit dont understand what Beef is talking about when he keeps ranting about how the anti-faunus racism makes no sense. Unlike real world racism? Yeah racism makes no sense. @omargoodman2999
@omargoodman2999 Год назад
It makes sense, but in a different sort way than you'd expect it to. Yes, negative emotions attract literal deadly monsters that will come and kill you, so Racism is clearly a bad thing to have in a world like Remnant. But Racism is a _result,_ not a cause; it started with initial _fear_ of the Faunus and that's not exactly something that people can just toggle on and off like a light switch. And, because of that fear, which later developed into classism based on exploiting Faunus for the advantages they had which Humans lacked, it gave _rise_ to the Racism. And, once the Racism was already set in place, well, it's a matter of how they deal with it. So now, you have a situation where an awful lot of humans have Racism baked in from a very young age which brings with it very automatic, on-sight negative emotions in response to Faunus. So just *seeing* a convoy of Faunus "just passing though" can be enough to trigger a cascade of negative emotions which, in turn, prompts a Grimm attack. *That* is what the major issue is; people learned to hate and fear Faunus, which attracted Grimm, so they didn't want Faunus even coming around to be *seen* because that in and of itself would lead to Grimm attacks. So they hated Faunus *even more* because their presence, indirectly, attracted Grimm. And it became a sympathetic feedback loop, continuously reinforcing itself with more and more hatred each time.

Something a lot of people focus on is the exact wording of Ozma's last question and answer. How do I destroy Salem? You can't. There are two potential loopholes in this. 1. Is there a solution other than destroying her? This is the option you spotted. 2. It only says that he PERSONALLY cannot destroy her, but doesn't preclude someone else being able to.

1:01:24 you sure as hell haven't met a lot of people with general and/or social anxiety then. Crossed arms infront of your body is a general defensive posture that many humans default to when they are feeling vulnerable or attacked. 1:09:46 I always understood it in the way that the reason why they are so angry is because Oz agreed to being fully honest and forthcoming with them and the immediate next opportunity he had he held back information that had a direct impact on them and their decision making. You can argue about if they should expect Oz to _be_ 100% forthcoming, but after he agreed to it i think he should keep his word.

1:21:47 Remember when Ozpin asked Pyrrha about her favorite fairy tales and she mentioned "The Girl In The Tower" as one of them? Now it turns out that the story of the seasons and Blake's book about a man with two souls aren't the only stories that aren't as fictional as they thought they were.

@chb2551
@chb2551 Год назад
Except for that the story of the seasons was a bald-faced lie. He lied about so much already, how can anyone believe him about that? He lied about his reincarnating being a "curse from the gods for not defeating Salem," after all. There wasn't any real need to lie about that at all, yet he did. Likely because he lies about anything that has to deal with his past. Having children with their power because the power came from both Salem and him would not be something he'd want known. So, when the powers surfaced elsewhere after his children's death, he started the rumor about the seasons that became a legend to cover up his history. This way he wouldn't have to tell allies that he gained where the powers really came from. He didn't consciously give the girls their power. The power came from Salem and Ozma and passed to their children. The idea that he gave the girls power and it just decided to transfer from person to person on its own doesn't work. Unless they want to say that the power to transform into birds will also pass to someone later on since he's also the one who gave Qrow and Raven their powers. Also, if Ozma purposely gave the girls their power, then he'd be able to take it back. However, he doesn't know how it works, which is why Ironwood and Atlas were researching it. After all, if he is the one who gave them the power, then he'd know exactly how he gave it to them and how it works. I'm betting what happened was that, since both Salem and Ozma passed on their magic abilities to their children, and they're both immortal beings, then the power that was passed from both parents to them would be immortal as well. When the girls died in the fight, the powers passed on to someone random since they are just as immortal as Salem and Ozma are. Remember, as Jinn said, humanity knew how to use magic before it was destroyed. If the powers passed on because someone gave it to them, then people would have just kept getting stronger and stronger. Just before an old man or woman died they could pass on their power to their children. Then the children could pass it on as well. They naturally had magic abilities. So when 1 person died, that magic would pass onto someone else, increasing their power by the amount transferred. Then it would repeat each time someone died. The gods would have to step in every time someone died to prevent the powers from being passed on so that people didn't become too powerful. However, if what I'm thinking happened actually did happen, then the idiocy of the gods of making both Salem and Ozma immortal is what caused the Maidens to be born. If they had children individually, it wouldn't necessarily work. Having 2 immortal beings have children was likely the difference. It wasn't just 1 of their children who could do magic, it was all 4 of them. Yet children that he had later in his lives didn't have that capability. So it had to have taken both parents having the capability of magic for it to be passed on. And, clearly no children from those who were Maidens would inherit the power. It could be one reason why it can only be transferred to women. 2 women can't produce children together. If it were transferable to men, a woman and man with the powers could have children who would be able to use magic also. It might have been a safety mechanism that the god of light added to them when he made them immortal.

Ozma wanted to take his children away from Salem because she wanted to use them as livestock to help repopulate Remnant with magic-wielders. She essentially just stopped thinking of her children as people, and more so objects she could use to get what she wanted.

adam means he doesn't want people to know their actual names/ identities but does want people to recognise that they are the white fang. Essentially he wants to use the grimm masks as a uniform. So that people know when its the white fang. Its almost like a superhero thing i guess. Bruce wayne doesn't want people to know who he is (his name) but he does want people to recognise what he looks like. He wants people to recognise batman but not know its bruce wayne. In the same way Adam wants people to recognise the white fang but not the specific fannaus behind the masks.

I find it interesting how in the Adam trailer he was very much following Siennas lead. She gave him the nod, and he attacked, she told him to hurry up and move on, and he left the guy alive. It makes me wonder how much he was groomed into the attack dog he currently is.
@JamMasterJesus
@JamMasterJesus Год назад
So much this. There are also subtle hints and the way lines are delivered here that imply that Adam may have actually originally *been* a good person, doing things for the betterment of the Faunus and not the power hungry psycho he is now. Some big ones include: The usage of "deserve" at the beginning and end of the trailer. He says "It's time we get what we deserve." Then, at the end, long after he's developed and changed from the start of the short, it morphs into "What I deserve." Adam was non-lethal when the convoy was attacked, he only drew blood when the dude charged Ghira, who had his aura down, and was firing. While I (obviously) disagree with violence to get what you want, I think in this case Ghira was in the wrong to scold Adam. He acted entirely in their peoples' defense and only drew blood when it was Ghira's life, or the bigots who attacked them. To top it off, Adam looks genuinely *surprised* that Sienna and the other Faunus supported him in how he handled it. I just wish we got more on it, because imo Adam could've been a much more interesting character.

@catcoolcat8103
@catcoolcat8103 Год назад
So, about the Salem issue.. there are a few things to consider to fully understand the situation. Genies are typically tricky so one needs to be careful when asking questions and interpreting the answer. Oz asks Jinn 'how can I destroy Salem?' which, one first glance, seems like a great question to ask, but once you look further, it's really vague. 1. He uses the word destroy in particular, which implies violent death. So it does not include merely defeating her or even redemption/making her learn the lesson the Gods want her to in order to finally be able to rest. 2. He asks how can HE destroy Salem, which merely implies himself, not that another person or a group might be able to down the line. It makes sense for him to ask the question that way at first because the Gods entrusted that mission to him alone, and thus to be quite demoralized by Jinn's initial answer, but one would think he would start questioning the possibilities after a hundred years, or even probe further with the next set of questions but he doesn't seem to have done so.. And yeah, the Ruby speech to defeat Salem is quite predictable and corny, but let's remembet she has Silver Eyes powers that target Grimm.. and what could happen if Salem is hit point blank with a blast so powerful it destroys the Grimmified parts of her? Could she go back to the woman she once was?

Why are they mad? Beef... come on. They don't know what to believe anymore. They're in total fight or flight / survival mode (I'm talking about the scene in the snow after they've activated Jinn) Oz keeps telling them one thing and then the truth comes out which turns out to be a completely different thing. And yes I agree, not everyone should hold every piece of information in a mission or operation. But he's not saying: "Look, this is info I can't discuss with you for safety reasons'. He's saying: 'No, nothing's wrong' and then things do end up being very wrong. So yes. I completely understand why team RWBY is mad. 2:09:57 - Keep in mind, Jinn's answers are based on the _precise wording_ of the question asked. Oz asked "How do I destroy Salem?" This presupposes two things: First, that Oz himself would be the one to directly perform the action; and second, that Salem must be _destroyed_ in order to stop her. Neither of these are _necessarily_ true. What he should have asked is something along the lines of "How can Salem be defeated?"

You don't get it. What's the point of a cancer patient undergoing treatment when they're just going to die eventually? The point is is that you keep fighting. Ozpin does not know how to defeat Salem. But he does know that if he doesn't try then she wins. And at least he can do is keep trying until he finds a way or buys time for someone else too. And as he stated, do you think Leo was the first to turn against him? Remember, he's had thousands of years of experience. He has a reason for every decision he's made. Kind of spoiler here, but what happened when everybody found out the truth? They immediately start questioning why they should even bother fighting. And why don't they just give up. Now imagine the entire world taking that perspective. Salem would win in an instant. Ozpins plan may not be perfect, but it's the best option and under the circumstances it's the best course of action

@@alecwojdacz1815 This one is a little complex. I think Oz feels like it is HIS mission, his responsibility to stop her. If he, the one who got tasked by a god to stop her, can´t destroy her who could? So it never occured to him that he might not be the protagonist of the stopping Salem story and needing to maybe rephrase that question. It´s easy to see the flaw from an outside perspective but it is very believeable that somebody who has lived countless lives in service to that one task bestowed upon them by a god might not see that simple flaw.

@@misterorville4566 Not the point. The point was that BECAUSE Ozpin was acting dodgy, Team RWBY began to suspect that he was using him for nefarious purposes. That was WHY they asked Jinn what he was hiding. This is the inherent problem of leaders lying to the people who have been following them and get caught in it. If they're lying about this one thing, it inevitably raises the question of WHAT ELSE have they been lying about? Are their intentions really as good as they claim it is? Are they really working for the goals they say that they're working for? Are they supposed to take the word of a known liar that they're really doing what they say they're doing? And this is made all the worse when when "Need to Know" is used to hide what the followers think they need to know. Especially since if the team HAD known that the Relic would attract Grimm, they probably would have taken that into account when making travel plans, like chartering a private transport rather than use public transportation full of civilian bystanders. The Team does understand Need to Know. To answer a question that you had asked this video: no, I'm pretty sure that the daughters of Oz and Salem were not the maidens, but I do believe that they were the premise of the maidens. I think that the story that he told Phyrra was simply his backstory with some parts omitted and/or altered to keep her from the larger truth. What I think happened is that Oz had encountered those four young women from the tale at the time when he was lost and directionless, possibly still grieving the loss of his family (certainly his daughters, but possibly also Salem as she used to be.) When he encountered these four women, the kindness and compassion that they showed him reminded him so much of his daughters that he granted them a portion of his strength, thus in his mind his children would live on through the actions of these maidens and whomever they "chose" to continue their work once they were gone. At least that's my theory based on everything that we've seen up to this point.

Too many people nowadays love to hate on everything instead of appreciating and enjoying a thing for what it is, not what it could be or what someone else feels it should be. Great stuff man, glad to be along for the rest of the ride!

The funny thing is if you listen to her words, it isn't that bad. She said Salem can't be destroyed. It wasn't said she couldn't be defeated. Oz is trying to keep the relics out of her hands, at least until the world can co-exist. If Salem gets them all, the gods will judge and it won't be in anyone's favor.

Now this is entirely hypothetical but I almost always take the meaning in words literally. When Oz asked his questions, he said "How do I destroy Salem" and the response was "You can't". He never asked "Can Salem be destroyed" or "How can Salem be destroyed". He was simply told that He Himself could not destroy Salem. Maybe, just maybe, that's a hint that there is still a way to Destroy Salem, but Oz took the answer as if there was no possible way since he couldn't do it himself. I think the wrong questions were asked. If the Silver Eyes can Annihilate, the Grim, maybe they can do the Same to Salem. Salem became infused the Dark forces of the Grim. At the very least, Someone like Ruby might be able to destroy the Darkness in Salem reverting her back into a form that has no control over the Grim. Ya know, since she is immortal and what not. Maybe that will set her free from her quest for destruction. And maybe, the very pools that summon the Grim, can be reduced to nothingness with the same power that destroys the Grim. All Hypotheticals. I feel as if that would just be to convenient though.

I always interpreted the Ozpin "May I?" and moments like it as having a nonverbal response from Oscar, like handing him a videogame controller. There is implied communication and exchange of information between them without need for words. It's a direct mental link that eventually becomes so fluid that neither one knows where their own mind stops and the other begins. Additionally, we only see Ozpin take control on a few occasions. Oscar could reasonably be in control 99.9% of the time, but that .1% is always a high drama moment that is relevant to the show, so we see it. Ozpin has demonstrated the ability to take control by force, but he has pretty much only done that for one fight that was not even close to a fair fight for Oscar to handle, and in which the enemy specifically held a grudge against Ozpin. In that case he very much did try to get Oscar to agree and did genuinely seem to not want to seize control without permission. He WANTS to work with his new host, but he sees certain things as too important not to handle directly. Similar to how Sienna doesn't want to kill humans, but accepts that reality as a necessary cost of achieving her goals.

So yeah, the whole series is based on the two brothers making a mess and end up surprised that their "experiment" went bad. And then instead of taking responsibility for it, they just peaced out and where even proud of it. AND to top it of, the elder brother went ahead and basicaly said; "Here is a bucket, broom, and soap. Take care of it." Jaques and Cinder might be the worst in their own ways, but those two brothers are just the biggest douche ass wagons in the entire series. At least in my opinion.

I know when i first watched this episode, when a genie came out of the lamp, i started looking carefully at whatever she was doing because of the trope of wishes being literal. And while the question Ruby asked was answered well, hearing the one answer given to a question Oz gave made me jump up in my seat because it had been what I was looking for. Oz's question is 'How do I destroy Salem' with the answer being 'You can't', I figured it's either 'she can't be destroyed, but she could be defeated' or more along the lines of 'How do I do it' and the answer being 'well *you* can't, but someone else can'

He locked every relic in a vault that can only be accessed by that specific maiden. He created the Grimm, for example, before him and his brother teamed up to make humanity.

what the point is in fighting her? easy. to stop her from winning. she wins, EVERYBODY dies. Remnant is rendered a memory in the minds of gods. 'as long as your world turns', remember? She needs the planet to stop turning in order to die. stop turning, or be destroyed. whichever. I'm pretty sure she don't give a shit, long as it means her life ends. :) As for why she did not start her 'offensive' before roughly before the show started...Might have something to do with her encounter with Summer Rose...only thing I can think of that would have 'ruffled her feathers' enough to set things in real motion.

Regarding Salem trying to use the Grimm Pool to remove her immortality; if a normal, non-immortal person were to jump in there, they'd just be flat-out mega-dead. Like, they'd be 1000% dead. They'd be so dead, they'd be reincarnated stillborn. But it couldn't finish the job on an immortal... but immortal doesn't mean can't feel pain. So she kept feeling the pain of dying over... and over... and over and over and over however many thousands or tens of thousands of times it may have happened in the time it took for her to claw her way out of the pool. Now just imagine what that's gonna do to a person's psyche. Regarding the Racism against Faunus, it isn't just a matter that negativity attracts Grimm; that's only half the equation. People fear and hate what they don't understand; that's just a given. So that, in and of itself, is going to attract Grimm. And since it attracts Grimm, they want to remove the source that's *causing* that hate and fear... the Faunus. They don't even want to *see* Faunus "just passing through" because it's just going to cause anger, fear, and hatred on-sight due to the long-standing Racism which has been continuously reinforced by a sympathetic feedback mechanism. To avoid the negative emotions, they drive away the Faunus. But in doing so, they have even stronger negative emotions when the Faunus come back, which is more likely to attract Grimm. And those Grimm attacks get blamed on the Faunus as the emotional trigger, so they are hated even more and driven away even harder. Lather, rinse, repeat. Lastly, consider what the end-game is here. What, even, is Oz aiming for? And what is Salem aiming for? Recall the two conditions mentioned by the GoL: If Humanity is judged "A-OK", then great, they get their full Magic instead of "just a semblance of magic" and the Gods will come back and hang out in the world... for whatever good that did in the first place; but if Humanity are judged to be assholes and jerks, then the whole world goes "Kaput". And the criteria to initiate that judgement is to bring the Relics together. Keep the Relics separate, and the judgement can be delayed, hypothetically forever. But once they are brought together, that's end-game; it's do-or-die at that point. So Oz is keeping the Relics separate, but Salem is trying to gather up all the Relics: what do you think she wants to do with them? Lastly, consider all the things that Ozpin said when he was asked about the Lamp: I'm afraid you won't be able to ask the lamp anything at the moment [True: they won't be able to ask, because they don't know how to activate it] The questions were all used up before I sealed it away [True: unannounced new topic; this has nothing to do with the previous statement. The questions were all used up... but two have had time to recharge] And consider other statements he's made Yang: No more lies; no more half-truths. Oz: Understood [Not agreed, but understood. (you pointed this out yourself)] Oz: I didn't lie to you Weiss: Well, you sure didn't tell us everything about the lamp [He didn't lie, and he didn't tell "half" the truth... it was _far_ less than half] This show asks a lot of ambiguous questions that don't have clear answers on either side. On the nature of trust, on the nature of right and wrong, on the nature of hate and forgiveness, etc.

The part that everyone else NEEDS TO KNOW about the Relic attracting Grimm is that it raises the risk of more and larger Grimm attacks wherever the Relic is at any given time. They may not have chosen to travel on a crowded train if they had known that it would put the other passengers at risk. They may have chosen to maintain a higher level of readiness or even traveled overland on their own. They are being asked to protect the Relic and transport it while being denied full information about what it will take to do that job. This isn't how much the bags of concrete cost, it's how much they weigh. I don't care what you paid to get it, I do care what I have to do to move it.

Now that we know that the Two Brothers were Dragons, if you look at the map of Remnant, you'll see there's two distinct masses of lands that look exactly like them. One is the continent in the top left corner (The God of Darkness's Western Dragon motif) and the other is other is, for lack of a better term, perched on the left side of the continent of Anima (The God of LIght's Eastern Dragon motif). Another thing to note, do you remember the big tree in the middle of Haven's Vault? That is the same tree that resided from the God of Light's Fountain. So Haven's Vault is resides literally on the God of Light's Fountain itself. Cinder did mention that Haven's Vault was grander than Beacon's and now we know why.

About Adam wanting to make sure the humans didn't forget what they looked like; if you'll remember, all the way back in Volume 2 Blake talked about this very thing. The origins of the Grimm mask. Humanity saw the Faunus as monsters, so the Faunus chose to dawn the faces of monsters. They took ownership of it. It's very similar to how Satanists took ownership of the Devil from Christians. Except in that case it's a little different as the vast majority of Satanists are Atheistic in belief. The Devil is just a symbol to them, and nothing more. And, you know, Satanists aren't a terrorist organization fighting back against centuries of subjugation. Edit: When it comes to the Faunus stuff, I've never seen it as a racism metaphor. In many ways it is that, but I think where it fails is that it's more of a metaphor for any form of discrimination as well as a metaphor for extremism. And I believe the metaphor being the Faunus, instead of trying to tackle something more real, like sexism, transphobia, homophobia, etc., is simply because it's easier to tackle those issues when it's with a fictional group. You can set whatever boundaries and rules you want and people have to accept it because it's fiction. But at the same time, you're not really addressing the issues head on. Just your weird, twisted fictional version of them. Edit 2: I feel like the rules were pretty clear. The lamp can only tell of events that HAVE happened, not of events that have yet to happen, or hypotheticals. Oz did ask her a hypothetical, and she gave him an answer, but I doubt that's something she would know unless that knowledge relied on something in the past, like the conditions of Salem's immortality. Edit 3: Oooh, the Unmoved Mover... Interesting. I wouldn't say you steelmanned it, but your description is still really accurate. By the nature of cause and effect we can reason that everything that exists was caused to exist. And by following the trail back to the "beginning" there was a cause that is uncaused... Because it just was. It's not a good apologetic (though its not like any apologetics are good), and there's no logic to it. It's basically the word "assertion" personified as an argument, and it relies entirely on feeling. The simplest, and easiest answer to the beginning of the universe, if there is one, is to simply admit you don't know. Unfortunately, not many people are willing to admit to that.

It's those as well, but it's also the kind of love you can feel for someone you know is a monster who needs to be stopped. You can fight against them, put all your effort into taking them down without ever stopping loving them. Agape is love completely absent of conditions of strings, noting you do or become will break it, but it's also specifically not blind, it's not a love that blinds you to someone's faults. Philia is the love of companionship, shared interests, shared causes, shared struggles. Storge is familiar love, the love born of long shared experience and familiarity, it's the love of family and of your closest friends. They have every right to be pissed to him for that especially when he's hiding things like Salem's immortality and the fact that the relics attract Grimm which would make the trip even more dangerous for them even if it just attracted a few beowolves because that can lend to bigger scarier Grimm being called in. Like how are you supposed to trust someone who clearly doesn't trust you? If someone is dedicating their lives for a cause they better know exactly what they are getting themselves into. RWBY, Qrow, and the others didn't know because Ozpin withheld information and lied to their faces with zero intention of ever telling them the truth. The way i see it qrow has no reason to not use his crow form. It's kind of funny. at least for the kids, up until volume 4, they didn't know his semblance was luck. It's also not a semblance people could guess, so they could have thought his semblance was "Crow". And beyond volume 5 the kids know about the crow thing. People could probably assume "bad luck" is just part of the crow semblance. I argue there isn't a good reason for qrow to hide this power, unless "turning into an animal" is too unbelievable for a semblance... but if it is that brings up the question of why he's using it more freely now. I agree it's just a product of lacking forsight,which can be hard with so many characters with so many different powers. Ren is the same way. if he masks people, and grim are attracted to negative emotions, why didnt it at least come up earlier? Either because they didn't have one for him yet, or they didn't want it to be known. I later revealed power needs to have a really good reason for why it wasnt used earlier.
