@@BrittanyArtPoetry It is not always the case tho, because Jaune's aura is white while his eyes are blue, and Ruby and Maria's eyes are silver but their auras are red and teal respectively. I really love your concept because it makes it more meaningful, but we only have speculations. Design wise, it is made to accentuates the character's color pallete, but I don't know if there's a in-world explanation for aura colors.
It's a small thing, but I like how Ruby doesn't try to cajole Penny into coming with, and Winter doesn't order her to stay. They both let Penny decide for herself.
One thing I always respect about Ironwood too, is he doesn't turn on them because of their lies, he just loses a small bit of faith in them. Them standing against him is what breaks their relationship.

Do the grimm surround her because she is all enduring fear, doubt, self loathing. But yes i agree ironwood will not forgive others. And salem knowing this will exploit his personality to the detriment of those around him.

I think the only story flaw for iron wood really is they never managed to tell on screen what his semblance is which would have made iron woods fall seem more natural cause it would have told people that his semblance basically forces him to hyperfixate on a goal and do whatever it takes to achieve that goal

He's clearly trying but I doubt he can keep this up forever." And then the second he hits his limit and does snap they're like "where did this come from?! This isn't like him at all!" Legit why are people so confused when Ironwood does the thing that literally everyone was worried about him doing the whole time?
Clover is undone by his own hubris. He could've waited until Tyrian was locked behind bars to arrest Qrow. Cops have discretion like that, but Clover is such a straight arrow he obeys his new orders directly without hesitation or forethought. And his blind loyalty to Ironwood causes him to pay the ultimate price.

I think part if Yangs arc is the idea of questioning orders. It started when she first met her Mom and it was implied that Ozpin was keeping dangerous secrets. Then it was her insistence on no more lies or half truths. When she confronted her Mom she told her “I’m starting to ask questions now, so tell me, what happened to the Spring Maiden?” It’s true that she’s not as on board as everyone else, and that Ruby was a big part if why she stayed, but that doesn’t negate her own agency. That dig about questioning orders is a valid critic from Yang, in no small part because she once was a character who was following others without her own driving force. Following orders can be good, but not to the exclusion of your own morality. If that was the case a lot more Nazis would have gone free, and without the stigma they have.
Of course Ruby was going to fold, Salem was like “Yo Mama” lol. Seriously though, I’m not fully up to date and something may contradict me in volume 9 (or confirm it), but I think Ruby is going through multiple things in that moment. Firstly, I think Ruby has been forcing herself to be strong and be the happy go lucky person she appears to be… She’s possibly living for others rather than herself… Carrying the burden… Secondly, I think Ruby might have unresolved issues about what happened with her mother, so it’s a weak spot for her… Thirdly, I think part of it might be to do with her silver eyes… They went a bit haywire… I’m not exactly why it was set off then, but remember that Ruby thought of her mother to help her use her silver eyes at the end of volume 6… Also remember, the first time Ruby used her silver eyes, she kinda passed out and afterwards she mentioned her head hurting because of it. Her eyes going crazy like that could have caused her some sort of temporary, but intense, pain. Of course, I may be completely wrong.

Right. Rapier is just pointy, really, no cutting edge just light and fast. Great for stabbing into gaps in armor, for eg. Sabre is optimised as a cavalry sword, I think. Slashing and cutting, with good weight behind it.
I think the fire color is based on the color of the persons Aura, not their eyes. Though they may often match considering eyes are the windows to the soul.

I think what Cinder meant when she insulted Winter and the Atlas military for wanting power is not just for "wanting power", but specially doing so so for the sake of others. Cinder isn't saying that wanting power is wrong, she's saying that wanting it to help someone else is stupid, since she believes people would all just want the power to themselves instead of wanting you to use it for them. Basically, she awknowledges how selfish she is and thinks that's the way it should be. She's a true believer of survival of the fittest and never trusting anyone other than yourself.
I don’t think Ironwoods semblance takes away emotions, it just takes a single goal and makes him better able to prioritize. Finding unlikely paths to reach that goal and being fixed on its completion to the exclusion of other distractions. His current goal is to keep the relics out if Salems hands, nothing else matters.
Mettle is said to give Ironwood tunnel vision or hyper focus by the creators. I think it would've been wayyyy better if it removed emotion instead as it would make more sense given how it is shown to work.
My main problem with "They're only following orders, now" is that phrase has a derogative meaning in our world, but the historical events that caused it to have that meaning haven't happened in Remnant.

Winter has a Sabre (a cutting sword) a "Swashbuckler sword" is a Cutlass which is a type of Sabre mostly used in the navy, but Winters Sabre more resembles a Calvary Sabre from the Civil War. Wiess on the other hand uses a Rapier, a stabbing sword that was primarily used for 1v1 duels in the 1500s-1800s
The differences between Winter’s sword (an unnamed saber-like sword) and Weiss’ sword (Myrtenaster, a rapier) - while you can thrust attack with sabers, they’re mostly designed to be slashing weapons. The Ironwood vs Mantel ideological debate generally boils down to, Salem is coming, Ironwood thinks we don't have enough time and RWBY thinks we do. Honestly I do the same thing as Ironwood quite often. When I'm playing a co-op multiplayer game like L4D2 or Apex Legend, I'm usually the first to leave my teamates for dead to get points because I know I will die trying to save them(L4D2) or retreat away from the fight to attempt to save them later(Apex). Rwby beat the ace opps for a number of reasons. 1: Yes they trained them. 2: The ace opps were a man short with clover not there to fight with them. 3:Clover not being there is even worse because now the team doesn't have luck on their side.
And Marrow didn't really want to fight them Plus Ruby lead Harriet away from figths main area, where she would have changed the outcome of this fight. She let Rubys words get into her head. As did Elm when Yang said that they're just following orders.
I think you have to think of James’s choice not as choosing Atlas over Mantle, instead it’s choosing humanity (which will be destroyed if he loses the relics) over Mantle. In that regard I think it makes sense for his arc.
People are also talking about how he's abandoning Remnant. Like...have you never heard of the term, retreat, strategic retreat or just straight up live to fight another day? It may seem like Ironwood intends to lift Atlas for good but the fact is, he's having to make these choices on a heavily rushed deadline. The absolute biggest priority is keeping the Maiden powers and the Relics out of Salem's hands, everything else is secondary. And I doubt it would be for good. Proper decisions can not be made when genocide is on your doorstep. Rational decisions were thrown out the door the second Salem basically said she was coming personally (To set the stage for me - Salem). And it doesn't help both Ironwood and RWBY are so bullheaded and stubborn, but the thing is, Ironwood has good reasons while RWBY does not. Sad thing is, they had plenty of time to make proper plans throughout the entirety of Volume 7 but because of Ironwood needs to be bad and the military look incompetent, that was never done.

Salem's dialogue here was incredible. When it comes to Ironwood, her approach was perfect. You yourself said "she doesn't look that intimidating to me", and that's exactly the point. She wasn't being intimidating, she was being provocative, because she didn't want Ironwood to fold, she wanted him to step up and fight. Salem's approach here was specifically to help Ironwood get serious against her, because she knew the rift that would cause. As for Ruby, you are right that she folded too fast, but I think it makes sense for her to. Ruby's always avoided problems rather than faced them, and Summer specifically is the one thing she never had to face before, the thing she had been able to bottle up deep enough to not come up again and the one thing that wasn't connected to this whole war (we even had her ask Qrow if Summer's last mission had something to do with it, and he responded that Ozpin seemed as lost as them when she vanished, so it wasn't his order). It's also worth noting that they never found a body, so technically Summer's death was never confirmed, she was just gone. Salem saying this not only connects Summer to her, but also pretty much confirms that she is in fact dead, something that Ruby could very well be in denial about very deep down. I think Ruby's reaction to Salem's words makes sense. What makes less sense though, is how Salem knew so perfectly what to EXACT thing to say was. That said, I agree that it was a bit too easy, but not enough for me to complain about it.
So let's talk "the general's tactics". Let's say we go with this plan. There is one basic thing that Jimmy is forgetting. Water. The city of atlas needs mantel to provide both water and dust. This plan will starve Atlas to death.

There are a lot of differences between those Swords and a Rapier. The most notable ones are that a Rapier is *double-edged* , waaaaaayyyy longer and primarily a thrusting weapon, while the the other 3 are primarily slashing weapons, and *single-edged*
I think Ironwood underestimates just how dependent Atlas is on cheap labor and raw materials from Mantle...it's not a sustainable long-term solution. The two cities are interdependent.
Neo's umbrella is probably just made out of fabric. It is however enhanced by her aura like all the weapons on the show are. It's like in Vol 2 where Ren throws Aura enhanced Celery sticks into solid concrete.
In the novels it’s revealed that the umbrella is specially made by the same manufacturer that made Romans cane, both as custom weapons, so I think it might be more than just fabric. Plus if it’s just aura then why use it as a shield? In both cases the same amount of aura is probably needed to protect from the bullets.
The problem with not understanding why Salem’s two sentences caused Ruby to fold the way she did is not understanding the extent of how Ruby places her mother on a pedestal. To Ruby, her mother is the epitome of being a huntress - fighting for what is right, even if it means sacrificing yourself in the end. And that’s how Ruby always felt Summer met her end - sacrificing herself for a noble purpose. In just two sentences Salem completely shattered Ruby’s view of her mother. Her end wasn’t something noble; it was in total failure. In fact, it didn’t just shatter how she viewed her mother; it shattered what it meant to her to be a huntress.
I can't back it up but i suspect that the silver eyes are a double edged sword like the maiden powers. If protecting life summons the power then maybe loosing hope can damage the user. I also suspect the maidens can be damaged by the silver eyes , and not just Cinder because of her grimm parts. Ozpin may have searched out the eyes as a check against antagonostic maidens.
@@JAERepair in volume 4 I believe, Salem said to Cinder that the maidens are weak to the silver eyes that's why Cinder lost when ruby used her silver eyes in Beacon. With her Grimm arm it didn't help since it made her even weaker, again I am not 100% sure but please correct me if I am wrong.
Penny was fine though after the blast in Freya's room, and she just became a Maiden. Unless it's physical and since she's made of metal, it didn't affect her? Personally I feel like Salem meant the Grimm arm/parts in Cinder is the weakness and her saying she lost because of her new powers is refering instead to the way Cinder acquired it aka via the beetle Grimm that came out of her glove. Cinder did not get the Maiden powers in the natural ways either by chance or being in the last thoughts of the previous holder so she had to resort to Grimm powers to get it and maybe that's what Ruby's Silver Eyes are affecting.

Because if it was the Grimm arm, and Salem is repairing the damage done to Cinder with more Grimm… Cinder might freak out about that if she knew Salem was increasing her vulnerability.

Ironwood's turn was very well written, it makes perfect sense why and how it happened, and it's completely logical that he became what he did as a result of what happened. THAT SAID, it doesn't make it any less frustrating to watch unfold.
Something the creators forgot to do was explain Ironwood's semblance, mettle. It's a passive semblance that strengthens his resolve and hyper-focus. It also tunnel-visions him into sticking with his decisions.

You may as well say Corsac and Fennec Albain where behind everything in volume 1 because the writers once planned to do that. Ironwood being stubborn and unwilling to listen to others doesn't need to be a semblance. It's a personality. A personality the he has displayed in every scene he's in since season 2. The people ranting about Ironwood not making sense are the weirdos with head trauma who are making stuff up to complain. They'll pretend that Ironwood's behaviour came out of nowhere despite the fact that every character who has interacted with him (and many who haven't like Lionheart) openly talked about him being like this. and then they'll treat this semblance stuff as canon and then complain about it being bad writing despite the fact that *it's not in the writing.*

I could be mistaken but I’m pretty sure the drunk guy we met who defended Atlas and got thrown in a trash can after he insulted Blake in front of Weiss, then came back as one of the rioters. You could see him staring deadeyed at the screen while taking a swig of his bottle. I think it’s a decent commentary on someone watching the world go to shit. At first they are drunk but still defending things “The embargo’s got us in a rough patch, but it will blow over” to oh shit Atlas turned the heat off.
I always say i dont like how they took ironwood's character, but maybe its less about the direction and more the things that brought him there. I feel like the catalyst was the protagonists lying, which to me makes it harder to buy that I'm supposed to look at Ironwood as the one in the wrong. They kept trying to make him seem unhinged but just like you said it comes off as goofy when before Ironwood seemed like one of the most understanding type of militaristic characters. It almost felt like they wanted to subvert the military character, but also make him follow the same beats later on. Both ok idea's but i dont think they blended the two sides together well. I'm fine with tropes, and I do love how they handled Ironwood until this volume. You can blame his semblance I guess for muddying the waters, but The show doesnt go out of its way to explain or show how it works, so I think that's a bad excuse. If we saw the man struggling with his morals and using his semblance to suppress it that's another way to justify the shift.
I'd say Neo's parasol is a lightweight mix of Vibranium and Animantium. Just like Captain America's shield is. Well, in the comics anyway. The flames from the eyes of the Maidens are the same color as their aura What I find crazy is how Winter tells Weiss she is giving her a headstart, then procedes to call for reinforcements less than a second later. What an absolute bitch.
My favorite part about the team RWBY vs Ace Ops fight is that which you can argue along the lines of 'why call them out for following orders when you're doing the same' and whatnot, they're not saying it in the moment to call them out, they're specifically doing it for trash talking. Ruby claims 'yeah well now we're better' before rushing out of the room specifically to take a jab at Harriet, who falls for it and runs after Ruby. Blake is grabbed by Elm and Yang makes the condescending statement about them just following orders to anger Elm and make her drop Blake so she(Elm) can attack instead. Vine's sigh at her running is him realizing they are specifically saying these things to get into the heads of the Ace Ops. We saw that once Ruby was on her own with Harriet, She couldn't attack back well, just run, and of course Weiss needed to step in at the end, but it's emphasized by *Everyone* pausing their fights when Vine's aura is broken. It's not just that the Ace Ops are surprised that team RWBY might actually be better than them, but team RWBY also thought they probably couldn't actually pull it off. And btw, for Neo's weapon, just as a reminder since it's been multiple volumes since it was mentioned in volume 1, the aura that's used as a 'magical shield' for their bodies can extend to the weapons that one uses, so it's probably not so much made of a special material more than it is her aura is blocking the attack. And while technically she could take the attack herself, since her semblance is physical illusions, it's easier to pull those off if the creation of the illusion is hidden, like behind an open umbrella. And lastly, the eye fire color, I think the color might be specifically matching the aura of the person. That being said, the maidens we've seen have had aura's matching their eye colors, so it could technically go either way.

And Clover... who attacks the only possible ally in the battle against a dangerous fighter. 1:32:34 I promise Neo-best-girl gets more. Adam deserved more (at least one face-to-face meeting with Weiss. Roman Torchwick deserved more along with Neo.
About Neo's umbrella - Aura can extend into huntsmen weaponry (if I remember correctly from the WoR). So the fact that two grenades hitting her umbrella does absolutely nothing shows you how strong Neo's aura actually is. That's how I've always interpreted that anyway 😄 Great reaction again!! the people of mantle feeling at all negatively about their Protector never made sense to me. Anyone who saw her in action(and presumably most of them had by the time rwby arrived) would likely find it hard to believe she was a pure machine. I'd be quite surprised if anyone(aside from the most contrary) even remembered her connection with Ironwood. it always seemed an afterthought to me. For any kind of majority to seek her destruction...nay. maybe if it had been up in Atlas. but the people down in Mantle can't afford such illusions. Chances are better than good they know what's what.
I love Ironwood and what they did with him. And I said it before and I´ll say it again his Semblence being what it is supposed to be is pure bs that was made up by people that got tired of the question what his Semblence is. They even make a point of it to show that he is ruled by his emotions which in this instance is fear. Because he is ruled by fear and as a reaction to that hardens his heart. And that is exactly why I can respect the character. If it was just a Semblence where he wouldn´t even have a choice in the matter would be boring and completely ruin the character. Do I agree with his course of action? No! But I can see how a person like him can arrive at his conclusion. Him not wanting to do what he is doing but still doing it is the reason why he is not a total clown of a character and instead a great character. To Clovers death... yeah that really has nothing to do with Ironwood or anybody else. That one is purely on himself for prioritizing a person that might try to stop you over the insane serialkiller that definitely will try to destroy you. This and Ruby folding so hard are pretty much my only problems on the writing side in this Volume. Well and all of that bumblebee stuff because it felt really forced but I already wrote about that. Overall the Atlas ark is still phenomenal and in my opinion by far the best the show has to offer at this point in time.
About the Ace Ops fight, a big part of why they won is that RWBY was decisive and on the same page, while the Ace Ops were definitely not. Marrow just straight up didn't want to fight, Elm and Vine were of very different opinions to the point they were arguing mid fight (Vine being neutral and not having any animosity towards RWBY, while Elm was furious and very hostile, as she saw them as traitors) It makes sense why too, for one the Ace Ops were chosen by their abilities and have a more professional relationship, they have a smaller sense of unity. But that's not the main point, more so than that, it's the fact that they're fighting on Ironwood's side that's the issue, since they all have their personal beliefs, but are actively avoiding them to follow orders, while RWBY is acting solely on their own ideals. The Ace Ops have a lot more reason to be indecisive here, and a lot more stuff to reflect on in very little time. And even more importantly than that, is the fact they lacked leadership. Clover is the one usually in charge of leading the team and planning their strategy, and not having him gere was what made them fall into Ruby's trap. Said trap being Ruby's taunt to Harriet, which signified the rest of the team what the plan was, that being "divide and conquer" basically. Ruby's "But then you trained us" was a taunt, not what she actually thinks, that's probably why you found it stupid. She said that to get Harriet to chase her, which worked since Harriet was so mad, and that was I'd say the most important step for them to win. Following her lead Yang and Blake then took Elm and Vine away from Marrow. They did this because if they all fought together, the Ace Ops would most likely win thanks to Marrow and Harriet's semblances. If Marrow had line of sight to more than one member of RWBY the fight would instantly be over, and Harriet's speed would allow her to get in the way of every fight (Her main advantage over Ruby is being able to use her semblance while she attacks, which Ruby can't so since she transforms into petals. That would make a big difference in this fight) If the Ace Ops were on the right mind, Harriet and Marrow would've tried to reunite with the others, but each had their own reason not to. Marrow was trying to talk it out, while Harriet was too enraged to think strategically (not to mention underestimating Ruby, which is how she was caught in those shackles, as she didn't realize Ruby could escape them by transforming). The main reason RWBY won this fight wasn't just skill or strength, but rather their solid strategy combined with lack of teamwork from the Ace Ops' side thanks to Clover's absence and the situation with Ironwood.
1:20:15 Yang is saying the Ace ops have no will of their own and only do as their ordered even if they don't agree with it, and you can tell she's right the ace ops and Winter clearly don't like what Ironwood is ordering them too do but they just put their feelings aside and do it anyway. Team RWBY and Penny luckily haven't been completely droned out yet and won't do something they don't want just because someone else tells them too.
The kind that use tactics that have been outdated since the time we were still using muskets. CRWBY made the Atlas military pretty incompetent compared to actual modern militaries.

If you liked Ironwood's plan at the beginning of the volume and realize that the earlier wave of Grimm left his army exhausted, now that you see what he was really up against the whole time, do you still think his plan was ever going to work? He wasn't even planning for half of what he was really up against.
His plan was to *not* fight that massive cloud of grimm. If things went Ironwood's way, Atlas would be flying the fuck away from that. As long as that whale can't open its mouth and laser Atlas in half, they have until it reaches Atlas to get the hell out of dodge.
Ironwood's Semblance have a tendency to make him something of an irrational shitheel. He is building his case for betraying team RWBY on their part in ensuring that Robin was made an ally instead of a useless prisoner. or dead. so, yeah. only thing saving this scene is his Semblance. and his rising insanity.

Then again, it doesn't have to be Pietro's aura that they salvage to give to Penny, does it? Maybe they can capture Jimmy Ironwood and extract his, see how he likes it when he's the one undergoing that procedure as opposed to ordering other people to give up their auras for the sake of his plans... or they could just grab a random prisoner from death row and put him to good use...
55:20 If you said this stuff in the finale or even episode one of V8 I'd understand a little more, But considering how little faith you had in him to begin with, and my own personal bias for him, I'm just grateful for how long it lasted.
Since you had brought it up again I thought that I would reiterate: the drunk idiot back in the first episode of this volume wasn't meant to be a huge statement about discrimination or racism nor was it meant to be a huge addition to the story. It was simply to show how much Weiss has grown as a person: from what she's been shown to be back in Volume 1, the kind who would have and has said the exact same thing that guy said (though with less drunken slurring of her words) to the one who would genuinely and wholeheartedly defend her faunus teammate... or rather her friend... against such idiots. I can already hear some of you asking, "Why didn't she just argue the guy down rather than just throwing him in the trash?" and there's a few reasons, a couple of which are plot related. First, the guy was drunk, so words weren't going to be very effective in the first place. Second, they're supposed to be keeping their heads down as they had made an unauthorized landing in a stolen Atlas airship. While violently dunking the guy in the trash runs counter to that, standing around arguing with a drunk not only would create as much of a commotion but it would have the added disadvantage of tying them down until the authorities arrive. The third reason has to do with production and not plot per se. Even with the first episode of the volume they're only allotted so much time, and with it being the first episode they needed a hook to keep the audience onboard for the entire volume, hopefully one powerful enough to bring back any viewers who went astray. So they had to choose where to spend their time: with a lengthy, and possibly boring, argument between Weiss and a drunk about faunus? Or an emotional reunion between Ruby and the rebuilt Penny? No contest, right? So that's why the drunk got the "dunk tank but without water" treatment.
If only Jaune had been in the room after Salem's appearance: he would likely have realized that Ironwood sending Winter to claim the Maiden power was exactly what Cinder wanted, because she could follow them to where the Maiden was being kept - _just like she did at Beacon._ But with Ozpin on retreat, he's the only one there who knew what Cinder had done. (Also, "War" > "Hero". Fight me.)
He was not killing Ozcar... he just broke his aura shield... i mean, it is not like it was calculated to NOT kill him... but he as not trying to actually kill him... otherwise he would have shot more than once...
This is my favourite season by a long shot also with episode where RWBY fights the ace ops I love that fight it is my favourite fight of the series cause your right the ace ops should have won they are stronger But they show us how they lost every time RWBY took one of them out they did it together while the ace ops where arguing with each other the whole time and only ever focusing one on one at any given time it goes back to all the foreshadowing if we are not friends this is a job and all that stuff they couldn't work together despite being able to do these combinations since they weren't seeing eye to eye they all disagreed on what there orders were and it's beautiful
@@KitsyX A year makes a BIG difference at that age. They are basically identical, and as a general rule, if it looks like they are the same, I assume they are as close to the same as possible.
Paranoia: 1. unjustified suspicion and mistrust of other people or their actions. 2. the unwarranted or delusional belief that one is being persecuted, harassed, or betrayed by others, occurring as part of a mental condition. Ironwood doesn't have paranoia because everything he was supposedly paranoid about became completely warranted and justified. It's not paranoia if it's true after all.
I think Yang and Blake being apart for 2 whole volumes and rarely being together alone during the first 3 volumes , puts a need for them to be together more now if the Bumblebee ship becomes confirmed ever. I think they want to give the fans that one, seeing how it's so popular. I would feel for Sun, but I like the Bumblebee ship....Ren and Nora have been inseparable for this whole show, and for years before that. I like your point here with Yang and Blake, but I like it more for Ren and Nora. Speaking of ships...WhiteRose over RoseGarden 😊
