there's a reason why we only remember the dozen or so actually good series, it's because most of it was dogshit, even worse than today because back then it required even more slavish labor to make, at least now its digitally drawn which has a lot of QoL improvements that saves time so even the terrible shit today isn't completely unwatchably bad like the garbage in the 80s and 90s

I watched one piece almost three years ago, soon as I got to fish men arc the stakes were to low, animation didn't improve much and the pacing got worse

Yeah, Filthy Frank said it best when he talked about kids whining about not being born in the 80s or whatever. We have access to the entire naruto catalog, and we can look at what episodes are filler. We can watch dub or sub. We don't have to go to the local blockbuster and look for the complete box set of blank with the OVAs. We don't even have to wait for next week's episode of dbz that I might miss depending on whether or not I finish up my project and get to the tv first. It's so much better for us right now since we have everything on demand. I guess the only downside is that the tv release differs from DVD and Blu-ray releases, but it's not the end of the world. Except it actually kind of is when you consider Jesus is coming back.
Yea in the end anime is still anime. Not all present anime is bad some is actually good take one peice as an example. Honestly sucks how people can’t see the good in things and can only see bad.
People tend to remember only the good thing. Even in the 90's there was a ton of shit anime, you can't just take only the good parts of the past and only the bad parts of the present and say "now everything sucks" I miss the graphic style of 90's and early 20's but the quality it's still there

I am watching Naruto Shipuden and i am at around right after the pain invasion and it's soo fucking annoying that i have to sit thought 24eps of filler after every ark. So much so I am watching it at 2x speed and it's still Unbearable. If their is one thing new gen is good at is having no fillers.

Where are the ancient masterpieces of the 90's and early 2000's? Unironically, the new animes list features more artistic anime than the formulaic battle shonen shown in the first part. If he wanted to say that older anime was better, he definitely did it in the worst way possible.

I almost want to say that anime as a whole has actually gotten better over the years. It might just be me aging, but it feels like the medium has matured a lot. With projects like Jin Roh, Bebop, FLCL, LOGH, Eva, JoJo, Champloo, Berzerk, and others being part of the medium's list of classics, it makes sense that we would be in an era of evolving themes, inter-project dialogue, and artistic iteration.
The vast majority if every season is made up of school or isekai. Is it really evolving to have a seaon like the one we have at where most male leading characters look the same. Literally 8/10 are the same dude
@@jjj8317 This is true, but I think the amount of good stuff we get each season is increasing. There's a lot of weird out there stuff getting picked up for adaptation. There's also a lot of shows being made that you wouldn't immediately assume would show up in the anime catalogue. Vinland Saga for instance, to my knowledge, is a fairly uncommon kind of show. It's a foreign period piece that cares to be at least marginally accurate, and adhere more closely than usual to historical facts. (I can only really think of Yasuhira Hara's 'Kingdom', or Shinichi Sakamoto's 'Innocent' by way of comparison, though innocent hasn't been adapted so.). Dandadan is getting picked up. Sonny Boy only came out recently in 2021. Eizouken and Blue Period are thoughtful shows about making art. CSM is one of the wackiest most meta-concept manga I've seen, and that's getting adapted, with the first season having twelve unique outro songs paired with visuals that are all themed after the specific episode they're paired with. Mappa's first feature film Illusion Factory came out and was weird and pretty. And all of that doesn't even mention what was essentially revival of the fantasy genre from out of the isekai pits via Dunmeshi and Freieren. So when you say the "vast majority" of each season is uninspiring, sure, that seems believable. But there also seems to be a growing cohort of competent and well made projects out there, which I think is something to be excited about.

This is just how art is, most things suck, so focus on what you like instead of constantly complaining about what you don't. You don't miss old anime, you miss your childhood and the memories attached to the things you watched. Now you're an adult, and consuming media will never feel as magical as when you're a child so you decide to generalise all anime you haven't consumed as bad. Understand your sentiment however, thats not 100% reality. The reality is that various eras of anime have different writing styles, artistic styles, show structure, music, and different techniques/technology used in production. It's very logical for someone to say they enjoy anime from the 80's 90's, 2000's, 2010's or 2020's. Each of these eras of anime all have various differences. Even to the point, it's logical to say you enjoy 90's anime & current anime while disliking the years in-between. ( Of course, this is speaking in generality. there's many anime that spanned multiple eras or shows that are created to favor a certain style.)
@@xblade149 It is not just nostalgia. There are plenty of shows I watched regularly which do not hold up well at all today. Beevis and Butthead I used to enjoy as a kid. I cannot stand those shows these days. There are some shows which are just narratively superior and Seint Seiya is one of those shows.
Nothing wrong with anime now, there's the same amount of good shows, it just doesn't matter anymore. We're the one's who've changed, and we'll never be able to go back to how things were, you can only create a better future for yourself. Good luck guys, we'll all make it in the end!

@@ProudNL99 i think there’s a 50% chance of gen z turning out either way 😭 every generation seems to see the way the gen younger than them grows up as “awful” or “dystopian” bc of evolution and other changes in society and culture. but at the same time, we’re very aware of this cycle of “new thing bad, new gen bad” so maybe we can combat it

I’m an actual 90s kid and a LOT of modern anime are fucking awesome. Most of those shown here are great… the stories are often incredibly moving with amazing animation quality (instead of mostly static images) It feels like some people that talk about “nostalgia” never actually lived during those periods 😂
I’m not a 90’s kid but I am a huge fan of specifically dragon ball Z but they act like all new anime’s are shit, me personally I believe some of the best anime’s came out of the 2010’s like one punch man or Muscles and magic or Jujutsu kaisen. This comment was my excuse to rant.
