Its not common in comics. Those are rare exceptions. Comic books focus purely and chaotic mindless violence but usually act as if this type of violence is non-existant. Since its usually a forbidden topic. Similarly to how "homophobia" was removed from the Invincible cartoon and they made it like everyone was accepting of Mark's friend. There are certain lines considered forbidden. This topic is rarely used in comic violence

Comics behave like this type of assault is rare and most violence is physical. But physical violence is glorified

In GTA, when you "kill people", you're not killing people. You're just going through an obstacle to get to the next level, it's the equivalent of jumping from platform to platform in a platformer game. You're just doing this for progression. It's only different in a story-based game, where the gameplay IS the story (i.e: every Telltale game, Life is Strange, etc), it entirely relies and hinges on it. Your choices matter. That's the only exception.

Oftentimes, Mark doesn’t really feel like he needs to “hold back” until he was faced with Angstrom (Angstrom having superhuman attributes is only treated as a reveal after Mark has already hit him multiple times, once bludgeoning him with a sniper rifle) , while he is still able to land direct strikes on relatively weaker beings at all without killing or outright destroying them, including humans like Doc Seismic. The best justification that he is able to do this at all is that similar to Goku or some versions of Superman when depicted as having a “bioelectric aura”, the same telekinetic force field that allows him to fly also allows him to control his physical attributes (strength, durability and speed especially) and the forces around him to a degree, so he can consciously limit the force he exerts and the damage he causes, while interacting with objects. However, it still makes it seem like Marks powers are like the phasers from Star Trek, something that can easily be “set to stun” at will and not take much effort to control unless Mark is particularly emotional.

That’s kinda the point of the Viltrumite’s story at the end. They can never change who they were when they fought for the empire. But Earth has sincerely changed all of them just like it did Nolan. Anissa and Kregg and Lucan can’t unkill unrape and unconquer all the people and places they hurt but by the end they’ve all committed to trying to atone by serving their new world and new leader
